One Race – Human
This concerns race as others see it when they want to use it to mock and denigrate others — when they want to justify their racial bigotry — when they want to hate. Mostly however, it’s about ignorance. The inspiration for this post is this man;
Shaun King is an activist who came into the spotlight when he used Twitter to advocate for justice for Michael Brown, the unarmed 18-year old shot to death by Ferguson police officer Darren White. Shaun is now a writer for The Daily Kos. Supporting his presentations with facts, compassionate, and wise, Shaun is targeted by cyber-harassers. They call him a “wigger” because they perceive his race is White.
Urban dictionary defines “wigger” as
a white person who tries to emulate or acquire cultural behavior and tastes attributed to African-Americans.
It’s a blend of the word “white” and the “n” word.
There is an underlying subject here of allowing those of mixed race to define themselves, but that subject is effectively covered on Mixed American Life so I won’t go into it here.
If people are going to look at the color of skin and/or physical features to determine race for the purpose of judging others, (and targeting them for cyber-harassment), they might be surprised at their ignorance. The following famous people are bi-racial or multi-racial.
Jennifer Beals
Vin Diesel
Carol Channing
Leona Lewis
Rashida Jones
Rae Dawn Chong
Rachel Meghan Markle
Wentworth Miller
Blake Griffin
The most beautiful flower gardens are those with flowers of various colors, shapes and sizes. Why should we think that human beings should be different? Diversity in humans is just as beautiful as diversity in creation itself.

scrodriguez,
Not only are his arguments circular, they are not based on law nor proper procedur. For instance, he argues that the denial of continuances resulted in an unfair hearing; in essence arguing that by his failure to perfect service, he was unprepared for the hearing on his petition for a permanent restraining order.
Another circular argument is that the judge sustained objections to materials he wanted to enter into evidence, so they are not on the record because the court did not provide a court reporter??!!!???!!! No. They are not on the record because the judge did not allow them to be entered.
Then, he had all those witnesses right? None of whom were in court. The hearing WAS NOT court TV. Most of those judges are actually arbitrators so they accept written statements. That is no allowed in REAL court.
A very funny argument, if I might use an analogy, is that a doctor puts on a temporary cast and subsequently finding that there is no need for a cast PERIOD, puts the temporary cast back on the patient.

To celebrate the diverse cultures and talents in the city of Dayton, Ohio, a wide array of musicians, singers and dancers came together to create “Where There Is Love,” a music video based on the eclectic globe-hopping imagery and sounds that define Playing For Change. The entire video was shot on-location in Dayton.

Good morning Xena/all!
Remember several months/year ago, (maybe during JFT period) IIRC; I think you blogged about a region near the east coast regarding a certain population of whites (Kentucky ??) Scientist discovered their DNA had black ancestry, and some were adamant that they had zero black in them?
The ugliness of those who degrade others for their race ought to wake up like Geoffrey Cambridge one fine morning. Hehehe! .

Hey Peni,
No, that wasn’t this blog.
Now you’ve jogged my memory about the movie Watermelon Man. I saw that years ago and now would like to watch it again. Released in 1970, it is timeless. Thanks for the reminder.

I’ve included a link to an old article I thought your blog discussed. (oops) Interesting read.

We all bleed red and we all breath air. I think this world would be a very boring and mundane place if we were all the same tones and hues and all had the same heritage.
The pictures included in this article are of beautiful human beings. It never ceases to amaze me the intelligence level of those who really seem to believe that others may be ‘beneath’ them. What a sad reflection of their own self esteem and perception of their own ‘station’ in life, to want to be ‘better’ than others

Mindyme, ABSOLUTELY! Also, death does not discriminate. I don’t know how anyone can think that there is superiority based on skin color when no one of any race avoids death. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.

Dear @GovJayNixon, The only ones who have consistently been violent in Ferguson have been the police, not the supporters of Mike Brown.

The supporters for justice for Mike Brown have a right protected by the United States Constitution called the First Amendment. Protect them!
deray mckesson @deray:
“I’m still processing that Gov. Nixon press conference. 1,000 officers. One THOUSAND officers. Sit with that. #Ferguson
Y’all, the ONLY salient point of that entire press conference was that ONE THOUSAND officers are prepared to respond. That’s wild.
Seriously though, someone tell me the last time ONE THOUSAND officers were mobilized in anticipation of a verdict. #Ferguson
95 days. 3 dead black boys. 4 free white male cops. 0 attempts at justice. And 1,000 officers ready to engage. #Ferguson
Do you know how intense just the mere presence of 1,000 officers will make any protest site? Pray for all of us now. Now. Now.
And we will NEVER know the name of who shoots and kills a protestor with 1,000 officers outside. Lord, help us. #Ferguson
Let me say this right now. If we die, the government of Missouri chose it and planned for our deaths. 1,000 officers is wild. #Ferguson”
