This week I am shining the light, once again, on ordinary people who are giving of themselves and their time to help others.  Sometimes the smallest act of kindness, just something as simple as picking up a dropped object for an elderly person, or helping someone across the street, can make someone’s day a little brighter.

Elderly people sometimes don’t get out and about as much as they might like.  Visual and mobility limitations may keep them from enjoying a walk in the park, or even just a trip to the grocery store.  Imagine the feelings of loneliness, or isolation that these people experience. And young people are often busy with their own lives, wrapped up in the drama of school, relationships, sports, etc.  But in Scotland, there is one young man who is helping bridge the gap between young and old…

    Beautiful act of kindness…amazing!!! Johnny Hassen Jr. bought a car for a couple with two babies who had been walking miles and miles everywhere they need to go.

    Ruston, La.– – For months, Johnny Hassen Jr. said he’s watched one family in Ruston walk around town, through the pouring rain and in 100-degree temperatures.

    He told us he’s watched these parents and their two babies travel miles and miles everywhere they went. Hassen Jr. said he has always wanted to lend them a helping hand.

    On Tuesday he decided to do something about it.

    “I saw them in the rain,” Hassen Jr. said. “He was pushing a stroller and shoot- enough was enough.”

    He then called a friend at a local dealership and bought the family a car, out of the goodness of his heart.

    “I thought he was crazy at first,” the mother, Savannah Ahrens, said. “I really thought he was crazy. We’ve had people tell us before they would get us a car and they weren’t honest about it. He was.”

    “I told them I’m not like other people. We’re gonna get a car today,” Hassen Jr. said.

    This good Samaritan hoped to keep the good deed anonymous, but then the dealership owner posted it to Facebook.

    In less than a day it has captured the hearts of many, garnering thousands of likes, comments and shares.

    “I told him I didn’t want anyone to know. I just wanted to give them a car and then go back to work,” Hassen Jr. said.

    This family said his act of kindness gave them hope, just when they needed it.

    “There are still good people in this world even though the world is the way it is,” Ahrens said.

    “God is good,” the father, Donald Damon, added.

That’s when 23-year-old Alonzo Johnson stepped in, locking arms with the senior citizen and helping him down the escalator. The older man was terrified to get on because of a previous frightening experience he once had on an escalator, according to Johnson.”
