The San Antonio Express News and other Texas outlets are reporting the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
According to the Express News:
Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa.
According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

I guess I am one of the few who can view Justice Antonin Scalia as someone to be admired even though, I rarely agreed with him on anything of a political nature. He had many truly very close liberal friends including Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. I am saddened that both sides are making political hey day of this before his family and friends have even had a chance to take in this sad news.
The republicans have no standing to demand that President Obama wait to appoint a nominee until after 2017, when the will of the people will be heard regarding our next U.S. president. The problem with this, is that the peoples’ voices were heard in 2012 when they elected to a second term, President Barack Obama. As far as I know, he still is our president and he has an obligation to honor the constitution by doing his duty of nominating someone.
The really shocking news will eventually register with the republicans, that even without a replacement, and because of Justice Scalia’s absence, the court will be leaning to the left. Any 4 to 4 vote, will allow the lower court’s decision to stand. There is no precedence set. There are more lower court decisions that lean left than those which are conservative.

Gronda, it’s hard to believe that Republicans are intent on obstructing President Obama yet again. It’s very sad. We are suppose to put our country first by honoring the constitution.
I wish that SCOTUS would hear every case petitioned to them, rather than picking and choosing. That would really give Americans the truth of how the Justices lean.

Xena, WHY…… is it so hard to believe. That’s all they have been doing for most of the time he’s been in office. It is very sad but a true reality. Even though the country is supposed to come first, there are those who will cut off their nose to spite their face.

It’s hard for me to believe because deep inside, I want to believe that people in positions of public trust are not deliberate hypocrites. I would like to believe that they want to serve as good role models for the next generation. I would like to believe that their actions are not driven by biases, including racial biases. I would like to believe that people evolve through learning and experience, in other words, that upon seeing that their methods have failed since 2008, that they wake-up and do what is right for the country.

THIS IS FROM MEMORY FROM SOMETHING I READ OR SAW RECENTLY, AND SO I NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH. WITHIN THE LAST 50 YRS THERE HAVE BEEN MAYBE 3 SUPREME COURT HOPEFULS WHO WERE NOMINATED WITHIN ONE YEAR FROM THE NEXT ELECTION CYCLE.

President Obama will probably wait a seemly couple of weeks in deference to the recent loss of Justice Scalia before submitting a nominee.
D.C. Circuit Judge Sri Srinivasan is probably on the short list for potential supreme court nominees. He was nominated by President Obama in June 2012, Finally, he was confirmed in May 2013 by a unanimous vote 97-0 vote.He is 48 yrs old and would be the first Indian-American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.He is known to be a moderate who clerked under Sandra Day O’connor..
