One Dead In Seattle Pacific University Shooting
Posted by Xena
Seattle Pacific University is a private Christian university located about 10 minutes from downtown Seattle. It has about 4,270 students.
Thursday, Aaron R. Ybarra, 26, armed with a shotgun and a knife, opened fire at Seattle Pacific University. While he was reloading, a student used pepper spray on the shooter and several others pinned him down until police officers arrived.
Assistant Police Chief Paul McDonagh said that Ybarra was not a student at the school.
The university locked down its campus for several hours, and it alerted students and staff to stay inside. Some students were taking finals in the same building that the shooter entered.
A 19-year-old man died at Harborview Medical Center.
Three other people were taken to the hospital. A critically wounded 20-year-old woman was in intensive care late Thursday night after about five hours in surgery.
A 24-year-old man was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. A Seattle Fire Department official said the man suffered “pellet type wounds” to his neck and chest.
A 22-year-old man was treated and released. Police said he suffered minor injuries during the struggle with the suspect.
Police do not know Ybarra’s motive, but did say that earlier, they served a warrant at a house that is believed to be tied to Ybarra.
Yesterday evening, people packed the First Free Methodist Church on campus for a service of prayers and song. “We’re a community that relies on Jesus Christ for strength, and we’ll need that at this point in time,” said Daniel Martin, president of Seattle Pacific University.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, noting previous mass shootings in the city, said: “Once again the epidemic of gun violence has come to Seattle.”
A video report with CNN’s Anderson Cooper is available here.
Our condolences to the family of the man killed, and good, positive thoughts for the successful recovery of the wounded.

I am sickened beyond belief. Just prior to this happening, well…I just can’t talk right now. I have, however, changed the mind of one gun nut, and that is something.

Incredible, the brave folks that stopped this man. Wow. My heart goes out to everyone who lost loved ones yesterday, and every day, to gun violence.

You mean it wasn’t a ‘good guy’ with a gun who stopped the bad guy with a gun. Just some brave person who had some pepper spray handy?
Amazing!!

Congress must address the gun problem in the U.S.

Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?

The answer is blowin’ in the wind.”

O/T, but important to see that the push back against gay rights has begun again… Read this diatribe and see if you can find a connection to the recent Texas GOP proclamation that homosexuality can be “cured” by the use of treatment and probably drugs… What a crock of bull that the GOP’ers are trying to pass off as truth once again…

crazy,
That is a crock of bull. You know, I’ll bet there are millions of people that wish they weren’t alcohlics, drug addicts, obese, smokers, ect., but I can’t envision homosexuality fitting in the catagory of wishing they weren’t, or seeking treatment for. Perhaps the GOP’ers should seek treatment or a cure for their obsessive behavior regarding sexuality. They seem to be the ones with a problem, and i’m sure a psychologist and probably drugs could help them.

dreamer, I guess something is wrong with me, I don’t lay awake at night concerned who is an who is not gay! Perhaps the folks that are so worried about that should spend a little more time on their own problems and worry less about their neighbors…

Once again, I thought a black kid with a hoodie is the person to fear. Elliot Rodger Justin borque Aaron Ybarra and Dennis Marx prove otherwise.

I saw that headline while I was surfing the net and I was going to post it here. I still haven’t read it though.
I’m sure it’s somewhat humorous even though tragic.
