“The longtime sheriff of metropolitan Phoenix was charged Tuesday with criminal contempt-of-court for ignoring a judge’s order in a racial-profiling case, leaving the 84-year-old lawman in a tough spot two weeks before Election Day as he seeks a seventh term.

Prosecutors promised two weeks ago that they would charge Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but the misdemeanor count wasn’t officially filed against him until U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton signed it.

On Wednesday, a federal judge set a Nov. 3 status conference — five days before the election — in the sheriff’s racial profiling case.

A formal trial date is scheduled for Dec. 6.

Arpaio could face up to six months in jail if convicted. A misdemeanor conviction would not…

BREAKING: Anti-gay Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis Released From Jail (VIDEO/IMAGES)

I suppose that the overall goal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples has been obtained. That’s the only good that comes out of this.

Kim Davis, the anti-gay Kentucky clerk that was jailed last week for repeatedly disobeying court orders to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, has just been released from jail.

U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning ordered Davis to be released on Tuesday, but only with the understanding that she is not to interfere with same-sex marriage licenses any longer. According to reporter Dave Weigel, there was the sense that the defiant clerk may opt to stay in jail.

Davis’ release became an option after the staff at her Rowan County office began issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples, and at the request of the plaintiffs that sued her. Judge Bunning agreed to her release, now that her office was doing its job – but Davis is not to meddle in same-sex marriage licenses once she’s out of prison. The court order said:

The obvious question would be….what took so long?  Yet it’s assumed she had to exhaust all her legal options via the Court systems.  Now comes the fun part:  The Go Fund Me  (OR SIMILAR CROWD-SOURCING FUNDING SITES) donations.

The thrice divorced Ms. Davis might benefit from the publicity surrounding her strict morals regarding  “The sanctity of MARRIAGE“.  ks
