Music – Bringing People of Different Races Together

muscle-shoalsRich Hall brought black and white together during the height of the Civil Rights movement, and he did it by creating music that we still hear today. He did it in Sheffield, AL, in Muscle Shoals Studio along the Tennessee River.

According to history passed down through the generations, when a Native American named Te-lah-nay was born, her grandmother placed her umbilical cord in the Tennessee River, making the river her sister.  Te-lah-nay was displaced during the Trail of Tears which forced the relocation of Native Americans from the Southeast to Oklahoma following the Indian Removal Act of 1830.   Te-lah-nay spent 5 years walking back to Tennessee River.  There is now a wall in that area, recorded in the Library of Congress to commemorate Te-lah-nay’s walk.   It’s called the Wichahpi Commemorative Stone Wall.

The Yuchi tribe called the river “nunnuhsaw” which means the singing river.  They believed a woman resided in the waters, guiding them with her melodies.

mezzanine_158-1-480x270Musicians recording in Muscle Shoals have long proclaimed the mystical inspiration from the Tennessee River.  Even if one does not believe in mystical inspiration, one cannot deny the musical impact created along the shores of the Tennessee River.  Aretha Franklin, Mick Jagger, Percy Sledge, Gregg Allman, Clarence Carter, Etta James, Cher,  Wilson Pickett, and Alabama all recorded in the Muscle Shoals studio, sometimes with nothing more than a verse of song.  When the musicians started to play, the song came together.   Read the rest of this entry

Inspiration For The Week

Caterpillars, moths, butterflies, a certain roach, and all creatures great and small,

Thus far, this has been a tough month for me.  Last week, I went to the dentist and had a bad reaction to the Novocain.  It’s the first time I’ve had such a reaction.   Along with breaking out in a red rash, I had stomach pains and dizziness.  This is happening while my last blood test results are that I’m anemic, and because of a combination of other problems, my doctor wants other tests.

I feel lousy. It’s not getting through one day at a time, but one hour at a time.  What I would love spending my time doing is blogging, cleaning out my flower beds, getting the guy over to clean the furnace and check the central air before I need to turn it on – stuff like that.   But, I’m sleeping – A LOT!   I’m awake for an hour, sleep for 4 hours, wake up, fight going back to sleep to doze off again and it repeats itself. I see my doctor next week.

As always, I hold on to faith, hope and love.   Forgive me for not being as active is usual.

I came upon the following quote and hope that it lifts those who can use a lift.

Currently My Favorite Commercial

This commercial made me laugh.

While doing some blog maintenance, I discovered that the original video has been removed from Youtube.  This is the only video I was able to find that has the commercial.  It’s not the best quality.

My Good Time Stories

Elderly in Brighton Photo Credit: Gary Knight via CC FLickr: Going for a walk down East Street.

An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired.
Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they’d shared, where Jerry had carved I love you, Sally.

On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up and, not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money – fifty thousand dollars!

Jerry said, “We’ve got to give it back.”

Sally said, “Finders keepers.” She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.

The next day, two police officers were…

Smile

Caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and all creatures great and small;

Parts of the nation on the east coast are covered with snow.   I heard that North Carolina is covered with ice.  Here’s sending positive thoughts to the people that they are safe.

Other things are happening.  Some are dealing with personal problems, health problems, financial problems.  The video below is intended to encourage and lift-up.  Even if it hurts now, smile.   Worried? Smile.  Overwhelmed with the cares of this world?  Smile.  Caterpillars do not change to butterflies without transformation.

No matter what path you walk, being positive and not allowing situations and others to take your joy is within your control.

Happy New Year 2016 And Year Recap

Happy-New-Year-Photos-Pictures-Images 6I love when Word Press sends out the annual report.  It gives me opportunity to wish everyone a happy New Year, express my appreciation, and recap the year.

Subscribed followers increased this year, and I want to thank them for their support.  It’s at a number now where I don’t get around to each of their blogs to check them out, but I do make good-faith efforts and resolve that in the coming year, I will spend time on the week-ends visiting the blogs of new subscribed followers.

We have been nominated for another award, and I plan to officially accept it in the coming days.

Last year, it was a pleasant surprise to see that Steve Harvey linked to this blog.  This year, snopes linked to this blog to support what they reported, and Wikipedia linked to it when discussing what they should publish about an issue.  Wikipedia also linked to my other blog, flightattendantfailures, which reports investigative pieces regarding people on the internet who threaten  others with harm because of race, and/or their work in activism.  Read the rest of this entry

A Racerrodig Thanksgiving

A Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone.  The following is a reblog from last year.  I won’t have much time for blogging until after the holiday.  Please be safe, enjoy yourself and the love of your family and friends, and whatever path you walk, I hope you enjoy Racer’s songs.

blue butterflies

Racerrodig is a precious, consistent supporter of Blackbutterfly7. I call him “Racer.” Through the years, he has shared his profound wisdom and great humor with us. Racer has often spoken about playing music, and several months ago he informed us that he started a praise and worship band with his son. They have been invited to perform in other countries.

Racer entrusted me with three of his band’s original songs to see if I could present them in a format so others can listen to them. So, I put them on video. The first video has some glitches, and I ask that you don’t allow that to distract from the beauty and talent of Racer’s song.

It wasn’t feeling like Thanksgiving to me this year. With so much trouble in America, I had gotten down. Racer’s songs picked me up and I hope they do the same for you.  As well, it is such a pleasure to hear his voice. Read the rest of this entry

Stand By Me – Playing For Change

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music.  I can’t get enough of this video.  They performed one song with artists from different countries around the world, and coordinated the video so that it sounds as if they were in the same room playing together.

Magnificent!
