U.S. tourism drops, GOP to cancel primaries, Trump coerces NOAA, Dem controversy, and health concerns

Thanks for the updates.

The Secular Jurist

By Robert A. Vella

Tourism to the U.S. is declining due to international concerns over mass shootings, xenophobia, trade wars, and foreigners’ dislike of President Trump.  The loss of revenue to American businesses is estimated to be in the tens of billions from 2018-2020.  GOP officials in several states are planning to cancel their presidential primary elections in order to protect Trump from challengers to his reelection campaign.  Embarrassed by his contrived, inaccurate, and illegal publicized “weather forecast” for Hurricane Dorian, Trump apparently coerced the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) into rebuking its own National Weather Service (NWS) agency for having the temerity to tell the truth.  NOAA’s statement was suspiciously authorless and the timing of its release suggest that the White House ordered it as an act of retribution and to protect Trump’s prodigious yet fragile ego.  The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is involved in another internal party…

  2. I don’t understand why government employees feel they answer to Trump and not Americans? Who pays their salaries?

In many ways, I’m glad to see the global community warn their citizens about visits to the US especially those in countries of color. The ones Trump called “shithole” countries.

  3. I’m not surprised that tourism from other countries has declined. So many people from multiple nations know about those mass shootings. It reminded me of this one part of the documentary Unjust Perceptions: Ethiopia where one of the Ethiopians talks to Phil (the American traveler/director) about how strict the gun laws are and was legitimately concerned about American children since school shootings NEVER happen in that country for example. All of these situations are maddening.

    • Among all political discussions about the economy, they don’t mention whether consumer sales declined with the passing of conceal carry law. I know when Illinois passed that law, loads of people I know, (myself included), decided to shop more online; never attend large events; and when we do have to shop for things such as groceries, to never go alone. The idea is to prevent another “Trayvon” where the only witness other than the shooter is dead. Mass shootings have add to the equation. You’re so right that these situations are maddening.

      • That’s something I didn’t think about and I’m from IL. I saw a lot more online shopping (even I get involved with it) or delivery services like Shipt going on. I certainly “keep my head on a swivel” these days to quote Phil from the African Diaspora New Channel FKA The Advise Show. What has this world come to?
