General Data Protection Regulation And Privacy Policy

Word Press blogs are accessible worldwide. On May 25, 2018, a European law went into effect that is called General Data Protection Regulation, (GDPR). It is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area.
To comply with this law, Word Press has provided a Cookies and Consent Banner to appear on blogs that they host. You will see that banner on this blog beginning today. You can read the Word Press Privacy Policy at this link.
Because some people are unfamiliar with IP addresses, I want to say a little about them. An IP address traces to the Internet Service Provider, (ISP). That is the company that connects you to the internet. If there is an emergency, law enforcement can contact the ISP for account holder. An IP address does not tell anyone your exact address, your name or other personal things.
This should not make anyone afraid to visit Word Press blogs, but rather, give them more confidence that Word Press respects our privacy.

You are welcomed. I had actually forgotten about the date the law went into effect. This morning, I was going through my regular routine of visiting blogs that I follow when I saw the ribbon appear on one blog. Oh-oh — I did a face palm. 🙂

This is really nothing new, as word press has always installed cookies. There are ways to remain somewhat invisible on line, but for most people it is not important and just another thing to worry about. Thank you for taking your time to point out this “new and improved” policy from word press.

Some bloggers have engaged the ribbon without information. Not everyone reads the ribbon. The moment they see “cookies” they freak-out. My post was also intended to be two-fold. As you probably remember, there’s a cyberstalker who started a lie in 2016 that there are “censors” (sic) on my blogs that are used to determine personal information of visitors. Although I addressed that in Feb. 2016, about 3 weeks ago, he was still spreading that lie.
I have a program that places a red check beside search returns when the website is not safe, and if I go directly to a website that isn’t safe, I get the bells to alert me and a screen telling me what is unsafe about the site.
Word Press, in my opinion, is the best blog hosting company. They care about their bloggers and visitors.

there is a section on askimet for those who use it to provide the blurb or comment that complies with the european regs too.

I found the ribbon under “Appearance” then “widgets” then “cookies and consent banner”. Askimet has placed a message on the admin side, but it says it is for the contact form. Hopefully, we’ll make it through this to comply with the European law. 🙂
