Two Black Men Arrested At Starbucks Agree To Settlement To Pay It Forward

PHILADELPHIA — Two black men arrested for sitting at a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering anything settled with the city Wednesday for a symbolic $1 each and a promise from officials to set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs. The men’s lawyer and Mayor Jim Kenney outlined the agreement to The Associated Press.

“We thought long and hard about it and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see,” Robinson said. “It’s not a right-now thing that’s good for right now, but I feel like we will see the true change over time.”

    • Hi Sue. Absolutely. The atmosphere here in the news it about 98 percent politics, so it’s a pleasure to read good news unrelated to politics. We haven’t gotten much of it since January 2016.

        • Sue,
You have such a peaceful spirit, and I appreciate that. Tuning into Mother Nature is a great thing, if one can do that without fear that a passer-by will call the police to report a “suspicious person.” It’s a great thing to do without fear that a total stranger might start blaring out racial slurs. And, it’s a wonderful thing without fear that someone with a conceal carry license might pick a fight, shoot you dead, and say they were exercising self-defense. Our nation here is under trauma in various and numerous geographical locations. There are huge urban areas where there is no Mother Nature to be found.

            • Sue,
I am so happy for you. I applaud those countries that have gun restriction laws. It does help relieve the concern that many of us in America have for our safety.

            • I saw a documentary that an actress out of Harry Potter went on a tour, driving through many states, She used to live in the USA.. So sad to see how gun crime, gangs and violence is destroying so many families, yet its accepted in certain districts as the norm.. So yes, I count my blessings Xena.. every one. ❤
