Trump Got It All Wrong … Again
This country was built on protests, not because people hate the country, but because they love this country and expect for it to keep its promises to everyone. Things cannot be fixed until it is admitted that they are broken.
Kneeling is both a sign of respect and a sign of sympathy. I can kneel to say, “I respect the flag, but the country it represents, my country, is sick. It needs healing. I do not kneel to disrespect, but kneel FOR all of the rights that this country promises to be administered fairly and equally to all of its citizens.”
I kneel to cry. The President of our country has no shame in saying “Son of bitch.”. I cry for him. I cry for our country. I am too weak from crying to stand.
Let’s be perfectly clear on something here. It is NOT against any law to sit, kneel, or even lie prone while the Star Spangled Banner is being played. It is everyone’s right to do as they will. According to Title 36 (section 171) of the United States Code, “During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in (military) uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart …” ‘Should’ does not equate to ‘must’, and there are neither penalties nor punishment for failing to do so. It is not a law.

Yes, agreed.
We pledge to a flag that is suppose to represent a republic that GUARANTEES “liberty and justice for ALL.” When we discover that all citizens are not receiving liberty and justice and equality, we need to speak up and advocate for those who are not receiving their civil rights and equal justice because their lives and rights matter, too.

It’s not only speaking for others. There are professional sportsmen who have been mistaken for suspects, held and handcuffed, and some served up a physical dose of brutality.

Thanks for the comment. You know, I’ve been one to say that Trump is leading this country backwards, but after contemplating that, he’s only emboldened bigots to come out of the closet, unzip and expose themselves all the way. Many began that process under the political flag of the Tea Party in 2008. Some thought that Chris Christy would be their outspoken mouthpiece after 4 years. Then some seemed to like him in 2016 until Trump interrupted and demeaned every GOP candidate during the campaign. They want a President who will say the things they are too afraid to say because of open carry and hate crime laws. He is their immune surrogate.

I don’t watch a lot of football other than the local teams but am digging this Sunday on the NFL. I was honored to watch our Jaguars in London this morning start the day off!

I’m not a sports fan, but my deceased husband loved football and basketball. I remember those days when his buddies came over to watch. None of them were before the television during the national anthem. They were either in the kitchen or at the ice bucket finalizing their snacks and drinks and driving me nuts with questions — “Where’s are the ice tongs?” “Do you have anymore of that dip you had last week?” “Can I use a regular plate? I can’t find paper plates.”
The talk about boycotting falls on many deaf ears. There are season ticket holders and not one fan who I personally know who is going to allow less than 5 minutes at the opening of the game spoil their love and excitement for the sport.

The NFL is a private business. The NFL players aren’t federal employees,yet you have POTUS interfering in the affairs of a private business.

IMO the purpose of this whole alleged scandal is to focus the eyes of the public away from the vote on the health care bill and the ever mounting evidence of the collusion that tRump and his accomplices in regards to the out right theft of the democratic election process that this nation is based upon! While this is garnering head lines, how many of you caught the news of the top tRump aids use of private e-mail for official government business? Might I suggest that each one of us send a message to congress requesting a bill calling for all elected officials and all white house appointees children be drafted to fight in any upcoming war before any private citizens child is drafted to fight in that war!! Ok, back under my rock I go! 😉

There is so much going on that it is difficult to concentrate on each issue in detail. No sooner did we get the bad news about DACA that we hear Trump plans on issuing another type of travel ban. Then there’s the investigation into Russia ties and interference in our election.
It kinda reminds me of a unruly child. The moment you clean up the milk spill, he has the dog by the ears hurting it. The moment you stop that, you find he’s soiled his pants. This is all going on while the phone is ringing, a Jehovah’s Witness is ringing your door bell, and you have a pot on the stove that needs tending to. In the midst of it all, you hear “son of a bitch”.

This matter has me frustrated because of the intentional misrepresentations of what the action of taking a knee means, the double-standard, and the obvious disrespect of constitutional rights to peaceful protest. Taking a knee has nothing to do with disrespecting the flag, the anthem, the country. It’s because this country is held to every word of the pledge to the flag that sadness enters to know that the words do not apply to every citizen.

It floors me how many ‘patriots’ are willing to give up their First Amendment rights simply because people of color are exercising theirs. Everyone I’ve found with who doesn’t support the movement, they don’t think the cause is righteous anyway.
Can you imagine the reaction had President Obama tried to quell our right to protest? Heads would have exploded

It seems to me that Trump planned on shredding all constitutional amendments. See, there is something in the White Nationalist movement and those like it, that does not believe the constitution should have amendments other than the first 10 which are the Bill of Rights.

Yes, We have the freedom in our nation to express our opinions and that has been in existence from our nations founding. But that is not what is happening here with the NFL. President Donald Trump expressed a moral standard for our nation. The Flag and Our National Anthem is highly respected by NFL fans. Now the NFL fans have a expression they would like to make public. That expression is “don’t dis our flag or our nation’s moral fiber or we will turn off the NFL and go do something else. Today, ESPN, a largely progressive sportscaster is loosing 115,000 subscribers close their accounts putting ESPN in a very vulnerable financial position. The 1.4 billion dollars they post for the MONDAY night NFL game is no longer affordable for them. They are going to have to drop out of the NFL market. The message is loud and clear, respect our nation’s flag and National Anthem or we will turn you off. That is our freedom of expression. Collin Kaepernick’s career is over because the fans said so. No team will touch him.

I suppose you might be right if taking a knee was being done to disrespect the nation’s flag. It isn’t. Here’s a link to how it started.
As far as ESPN, I can’t comment. I’m not a sports fan and know hardly anything about football. I do understand that there is a double-sided boycott of the NFL. Some boycott because of players taking a knee, and others boycott because the NFL failed to support Colin’s first amendment rights and fired him.
