Violent clashes between white nationalists and counterprotesters in Charlottesville

I hear David Duke say that the protests were to take “our” country back. Back from what? That question has not been answered.

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Hours before a noon rally was set to begin Saturday, violent skirmishes broke out between bands of white supremacists and counterprotesters who have converged on this college town around the issue of a Confederate statue.

Men in combat gear, some wearing bicycle and motorcycle helmets and carrying clubs and sticks and makeshift shields fought each other in the downtown streets, with little apparent police interference. Both sides sprayed each other with chemical irritants and plastic bottles were hurled through the air.

A large contingent of Charlottesville and Virginia state police in riot gear were stationed on side streets and at nearby barricades but did nothing to break up the melee.

  1. And now apparently one of Trumps Base has committed an act of Terrorism by plowing his car into a group of anti Nazi Protesters.

    • Hi Jim! A reporter on MSNBC asked if that was an act of domestic terrorism because terrorist used motor vehicles in Europe to intentionally kill people. I suppose we’ll have to wait to see what Jeff Sessions says. (sigh)

  2. Two sides to a story

Far right continually complains about violent leftists and BLM. Looks like actions speak louder than words . . .

    • Two sides,
I agree. Violence is not the answer, and based on today’s events in Virginia, it appears that white nationalists are following the ISIS playbook on acts of terrorism.

  3. You reap what you so. They have used racism to fuel this country for hundred of years. Allowing them to kill unarmed black men have given them the courage to display their hatred openly. I am afraid this is just the beginning.

    • The Wright Info,
Welcome! Racism in America began with the killing of Native Americans and taking their lands, destroying their food sources and infecting them with small pox. Kidnapping people from Africa and forcing them into hard labor as slaves followed. After the Civil War, it continued and was approved by Sheriffs and politicians. What we see today with White Nationalists is racial bigotry and not racism, because they have no authority other than violating law by using violence to control anyone.

Oh — there is one exception. In the White House are people in Trump’s administration who are white nationalists. We can only hope that Congress will not allow them to enact their policies based on their ideologies.

      • In my opinion racism in America has become part of the economic system. The elite need the racial indifference and bigotry in order to keep wealth unbalanced. Once the poor white realize we are “equal” they will realize that wealth is the issue and we should be against the wealthy. All these White Supremacist groups are really doing their members a disservice, now they are content with white privilege.

        • The Wright,
Your are absolutely correct when saying that racism is based on the economic system. There are people who hold to supremacist ideologies who are dirt poor, and see the problem as a betrayal of entitlement based on race. I observed that attitude when Barack Obama ran for president in 2008 and it is founded on the ideology that Blacks born in America should know their place and thus, Obama could not be a “natural born citizen” because Blacks are 14th Amendment citizens.

The dog whistles when interpreted; “How dare that affirmative action exists to give Blacks an education equal to Whites. We can’t afford it.

How dare those White teachers gave him passing grades.” “How dare he wasn’t profiled and arrested and given a felony background.”

All of the processes to keep minorities oppressed failed when Obama was elected President of the U.S. That scared the bejesus out of those with White supremacist ideologies.

They don’t mind minorities having money, as long as they can maneuver to divert those riches to being their own. Insurance companies do it by redlining. Cities do it by raising taxes on certain items that they assume are purchased more by Blacks; (sin taxes). The ability to get credit for secured items is no longer based on income and length of employment, but on a credit score that requires people to be in debt. The cost of housing in predominately White areas is so high that it’s barely affordable for Whites.

Those racist processes have now backfired and effect all American citizens regardless of the color of their skin.

          • I agree with you 100%. Many of these White Supremacist know that if the playing field is level they will not be able to succeed in any level the election of Obama made it seem as that playing field is being leveled. This current administration utlizied and fueled that fear. People need to understand they are being used as puppets. I believe bigotry and racism will always exist because they are fueled by ignorance and most are willfully ignorant.

    Xena,

With war at our doorstep, and riots in our streets, can we allow the investigation of our beloved President tRump to continue? We must immediately cease the investigation so we can once again bring love and adoration to our leader! We must return to our proper place in society and immediately stop questioning the actions of our leaders who only want what is best for our nation and its people! Are those or words similar the next phase of what we are to endure as a nation? How many of you have studied the rise of a man with similar personal traits in the political process in the 1930’s in Germany? It is stunning how closely that this group of people in power today are following in the footsteps of that powerful man as he led his nation in it’s rise to glory and ultimately its fall in defeat…

Mz. Yahtzee, It is not in the nature of Donnie tRump to take responsibility for anything that is not positive for or towards him. He has stated in the past that he did not have to apologize because he was never wrong… These are his core supporters and he will say or do nothing to cause them harm.

  6. Clearly, they don’t understand what is meant by Black Lives Matter. If they truly believe that White Lives Matter, why aren’t they protesting the use of deadly force against Whites? Remember Justine Ruszczyk?

  8. Matthew Heimbach. The man in the red shirt who shoved the young lady at the chump rally in Kentucky. My first suspension from FB, when I didn’t know it was wrong to post the addresses of the racists who post on his WS FB page. ah, Good Times.

I had heard there would be up to 6,000 protesting with the Alt wrong but final tally looks like there were more counter protesters, as usual. What do they want? What do they hope to accomplish? What is their vision for our nation and how do they expect to achieve it?

The Nazi salute says it all. Or should.

    • Mindmyme,
The Nazi salute and slogans are an insult upon this country. Freedom of speech is important, but that speech should not provoke violence, even under disguises. Dylann Roof filled his head with racial hate speech and now sits in prison awaiting the death penalty.

Of course there are more people in America who believe the constitution and all of its amendments. Those who hate this country for the rights given to all know that their opposers will not intentionally respond with violence. It is likened to having 10 people with automatic weapons shoot into a crowd of a thousand unarmed people. Dylann Roof proved what one gun can do in a situation of having numerous unarmed people. That, in my opinion, is why the haters do not care about their numbers.

  10. The suspect who ran over people has been arrested.

The suspect being held in a Virginia jail in connection with a deadly crash near a scheduled rally of white nationalists has been identified as James Alex Fields Jr., 20, of Maumee, Ohio, according to Superintendent Martin Kumer with the Albermarle-Charlottesville County Regional Jail .

Fields is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and failure to stop in an accident that resulted in death.

  13. I wonder what the crowd at the Blue Lives Matter website are saying about this. The site that confirms that even if LEOs aren’t mostly racist, their supporters sure as hell are.

    • Mindyme,
I visited that site almost a year ago for the purpose of research for a post I was writing about Deputy Sheriff Kyle Dinkheller. I found it to be very biased. White officers killed by Whites were not reported or were merely given a brief mention, while White officers killed by Blacks represented all Blacks as thugs. The same was true for Blacks killed by LE; the representation was that they deserved it. So often we hear to wait and let the jury decide, but in my opinion, that site does not serve as a good example for taking that position.

      • To show how more whites kill LEOs than do people of color wouldn’t fit their divisive agenda. You can’t blame President Obama or the BLM movement if they admit that.

        • Mindyme,
Absolutely! Do they not realize that the bias they demonstrate does not help to improve their image? It doesn’t help to build trust and it certainly demonstrates that they have favoritism over judging whose lives are more important than all lives.

  15. Back from…. The question is, who was here first? The Native Americans. Who helped build this so called free land… all races. Black people built things they could not get patents for and we use them daily.

When I hear people say they want their country back, I hear them saying that they want the ruling class back; the common law that gave them entitlement to take the lives of human property without being held accountable; the law that gave no inheritance rights to wives.
