Open Discussion June 6, 2017

Friends, visitors, caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and a certain roach,

Sunday evening, a bug hit my household.  Even the dog vomited.  Although I’m feeling better now, my appetite has not returned and I’m still weak.  This open discussion is because there are two trials currently taking place, and I’m not sure if I can keep up with separate posts about other news.

  • I knew jury selection was taking place for two trials; that of Jeronimo Yanez for the shooting death of Philando Castile.  Yanez is charged with second-degree manslaugher.   Jury selection is underway for Ray Tensing’s retrial, who is charged with the shooting death of Samuel Dubose.   The jury deadlocked at Tensing’s first trial, which we followed at this link.

Yanez’s trial is not livestreamed.  Tensing’s trial is scheduled to be livestreamed.   I will publish separate posts to follow each trial.

  • Things are happening in Washington, D.C. with the anticipated testimony of former FBI Director James Comey before the Senate.   President Trump derided the Justice Department for their handling of the travel ban case.
  • Trial for Bill Cosby is also underway.
  • Funeral arrangements are taking place after the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London, U.K.   Let’s keep their family and love ones close to our hearts.  More than 130 imams from Britain are refusing to offer Islamic burials to the 3 men who launched the attacks on Saturday.
  • Remember the fire in Oakland, California that killed three dozen people?  Derick Almena and Max Harris have been arrested, Two have been arrested, charged with 36 counts of felony involuntary manslaughter.

What’s on your mind?

  1. “What’s on your mind?”

I think I’m getting overloaded from what I’ve been calling

    • Hi Jim! Gronda, another blogger, has written numerous posts about the chaotic White House. There are times she has published 2-3 posts a day, and she’s been doing that for months. Last week, she said that she had “Trumpitis” and needed a break. 🙂

      • “Trumpitis”

We have a page on our local website where we discuss the issues of the day and I’ve been posting a lot more than 2 or 3 posts a day about the Daily Clusterfuck™ for more than a year now, it just never stops, everytime we turn around it gets worse. :o/

        • Jim,
It’s a bit too much for me to keep up with. Every week it seems there’s another person involved, another investigation being sought, another country’s leader that Trump has insulted.

  6. Yes, because we are watching developments too, so if you posted your thoughts on just the headlines, that would suffice!

“Comey Testimony: Highlights of the Hearing”

    Excerpts:

“Mr. Comey acknowledged for the first time that the F.B.I. was scrutinizing Mr. Trump’s actions. He said Mr. Trump’s conduct fell within “the scope of” the F.B.I.’s investigation but that he was not specifically under investigation.

The F.B.I. is investigating whether anyone in Mr. Trump’s campaign colluded with Russian agents to try to influence the outcome of the presidential election.
    — Matt Apuzzo ”

“Mr. Comey said he turned over his memos to the Justice Department special counsel, Mr. Mueller, the first public suggestion that the special counsel would investigate Mr. Trump’s firing of Mr. Comey.”

“Mr. Comey acknowledged that he orchestrated the leak that revealed his account of his conversation with Mr. Trump in which the president asked him to drop the investigation into the former national security adviser.

Mr. Comey said he decided to make the conversation public through an intermediary after Mr. Trump said on Twitter that the former F.B.I. director had better hope there were no tapes of their discussions. He said he did so with the explicit hope of prompting the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Russian election interference.”
