Open Discussion – March 20, 2017

Dear friends, visitors, caterpillars, butterflies, crusty moths and a certain roach,

I had out-patient surgery this morning, so am not feeling 100 percent.   There is lots going on, so feel free to post whatever you want to discuss or express in the comment section.

Someone remind me that if a next time comes when the doctor says “biopsy” that it doesn’t mean it’s a little scratch. 🙂 Oooh — ouch — OH!

    • Hi Xena, hope you’re feeling better. :o)
For some reason I stopped getting notices in my Email about your posts, did I push the wrong button in my settings when I changed over to this new ‘Puter or something?

      • Jim,
Congrats on the new computer. At times Word Press burbs or there can be some little setting when configuring a new computer that is easily passed over. I’m happy you caught and fixed it.

        • Hi Xena, I’m not sure if I fixed it or not, now I’m getting notifications on my monitor that you responded to my post but not into my mail which I thought would happen when I checked the lil box on the reply page. I guess I’ll need to wait until you post another Blog to see If I start getting notices of that in my mail like I was before.
I did bookmark your page, if nothing else I’ll need to check in to see what’s happening with my favorite Blogger. :o)

          • Jim,
I found a couple of notification troubleshooting articles.

The first is most geared for blog administrators, but it has other info as well.
            https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/

This one is about subscribing to follow including email notifications.
            https://en.support.wordpress.com/following/

Some years ago, a bunch of people stopped receiving email notifications. It turned out that some email providers decided that wordpress emails were spam, and they automatically sent the emails into the spam or junk folder. We were instructed to follow the instructions for our email in approving the .wordpress.com domain. So, you might want to check your junk or spam folder.

I truly hope you can get this fixed. You are one of my favorite participants. Jim, we’ve been together since 2012. That’s longer than some marriages. 🙂

          • That did it, in my Reader/Notifications (the arrow to the left of Blogs I’m following) the box to block E-mails updated was checked. Thanks. :o)

          • Jim,
WHEW! I’m glad you worked that out. Word Press has made changes to the reader recently too. I discovered yesterday that bloggers who post more than once a day now have their posts appear in a frame together with title only. There’s no snippet of what they have posted, and no way of sharing or clicking like without actually visiting the blog post.

Also? That quote … I’m glad you posted it. I’ve tried to find it in a few recent conversations, but I couldn’t remember the exact quote or its author. Now I’ve re-seen it, I doubt I’ll forget it, in all its succinct-but-vast truth.

  19. All the best wishes and hope you get better soon! Try to avoid seeing Trump’s face too much — might not aid with the recovery.

    • Eurobrat, I love your sense of humor. 🙂 Actually, I’ve avoided news about politics as much as possible this week. It has become overwhelming and I figure I’ll wait for the result of things. I think when Trump said he was building a wall, he meant building a wall of one problem with his administration upon another problem.

Thanks for the best wishes. I am feeling better each day.

      • I’ve tried to do that too, but couldn’t resist checking in on the news channels today…the failure to repeal the ACA was a bit too satisfying for me to miss 🙂

        • Eurobrat,
Since January 20th, the news has been overwhelming. Person 1, then 2, then 3-5, then 10-20 involving Russia. Then there’s the expenses of protecting Trump and his family in New York, D.C., and Florida. Then there’s the accusation of being wire-tapped, confirmations, and federal agencies operating without being fully staffed, such as the State Department. Did I mention the immigration issue and the courts involvement?

It’s like living in a house with an out-of-control 5 year old that weighs over 200 lbs.
