A Song Running Through My Head and Open Discussion

Have you ever awakened with a song in your mind, and it stays with you all day?  You hum it, and then you get the CD and listen to it?

That happened to me yesterday, so I thought I would share it.   The words that stuck out to me where “be free”.    Those words are deeper than the surface.

When we go shopping, we cannot purchase what the store doesn’t have.  It’s the same way as individuals.  We can only give to others what we have within us.   “Be free.”  Before we can allow others to be free, whether in their opinions, beliefs, life-styles, etc., we must be free within, and not in bondage.   Conducting warfare, whether verbal or armed, demonstrates the bondage that people have within, because that is what they give to others.

There’s influence, and then there’s bondage.  Effective influence is by example — not by words only.

Feel free to use this for open discussion on any issue or subject that you want to share.

For a couple of years now I keep hearing snippets of a hymn I learned in church as a child. ‘Just as I am’ even though I consider myself to be more of a spiritual and not a religious person.

    • Mindyme,
Same here about being spiritual and not religious. My foundation is in Christianity, but I’ve learned that so much of the teaching of Christ are practical. We see spiritual laws in nature, such as reaping and sowing.

      • Exactly! I don’t see ‘God’ as an entity. I see God as a verb that is within people who have kind giving hearts. I prefer the tender mercies Christ taught over the hellfire and damnation taught at the churches I was raised in.

        • my opinion is based solely on observation….i think “religion” is a man made concept…..i think the word God for me describes a universal force/power for eternal good……the part i have observed is that we are eternal beings and to me that means those that choose to become part of the eternal force for good……in simpler words we are part of “God” and either add to or take away from the goodness in the ways we live our lives while here on earth……..again these concepts have nothing to do with the various religions created by PEOPLE.

          • Bill,
I understand and I think that you are I are on the same page, although we might describe it differently.

Coming from a background of “church folk”and ministers, I quickly learned that different religions and denominations are because of man’s imperfect understanding of spirituality. It’s because man disagrees with other men over the interpretation or understanding of something, and starts another denomination under a religion.

There’s another reason to. Mankind tends to be drawn to a religious belief based on what they would do to others if they were God. The God of anger attracts angry people. The God of revenge attracts revengeful people. The God of goodness and love good, loving people.

I confess being a follower of Christ, (which is not Jesus’ last name). Jesus said he is the true witness of the Father and I take that to mean that if we want to know the universal power of eternal good, we look to what Jesus did, and how he did it. Jesus also said that only the Father is good. For me, that means that the good in anyone is God in them, regardless of their religion, denomination, or no religious beliefs at all.

And, that is all part of being free. I am free to not judge others by religious labels, or no labels at all, but to know the tree by its fruit.

One of the stories I love in the gospels is when the Roman centurion came to Jesus and asked that he heal his servant. Jesus did not tell the Roman that he had to convert his religion first. He didn’t ask for the religion of the servant. He didn’t drill him on how he lived his life. Jesus did what was asked of him. That, to me, shows being free to do the things of God’s love.

          Good afternoon, Mindy,

I have enjoyed reading the spiritual insight that you have shared with Xena:
“I see God as a verb that is within people who have kind giving hearts.”

Oh yes. I feel your words to ring true. God is “active” love.

This quotation has been meaningful to me since the time I first read it around the age of fifteen:

“God is a tranquil Being, and abides in a tranquil eternity. So must thy spirit become a tranquil and clear little pool, wherein the serene light of God can be mirrored. Therefore shun all that is disquieting and distracting, both within and without. Nothing in the whole world is worth the loss of thy peace; even the faults which thou hast committed should only humble, but not disquiet them. God is full of joy, peace, and happiness. Endeavor then to obtain a continually joyful and peaceful spirit. Avoid all anxious care, vexation, murmuring, and melancholy, which darken thy soul and render thee unfit for the friendship of God. If thou dost perceive such feelings arising, turn gently away from them.”

    • Is it me or does Sessions appear to be nervous? He danced around the question on whether he would prosecute Trump, Trump’s family and associates, if it’s found that they colluded with the Russians in the hack.

    • I’ve been stuck at the television and keeping up with hearing about Roof’s sentencing hearing. Right now, my stomach tells me it’s time to cook. LOL! So, I’ll have to take a break because I also want to hear Obama’s speech tonight. Now, CNN has breaking news regarding Intel Chiefs telling Trump that Russia was trying to compromise him. In other words, Russia was going to blackmail him. No wonder he praised Putin at every opportunity.

Funny how @realDonaldTrump was so pissed about #GoldenGlobes with #goldenshowers ready to burst over his head.

Did he at least pay the prostitutes? Or did he stiff them too…not bigly of course… #GoldenShowers

Of all the stories that they could have broken, a story about Trump and #GoldenShowers was tailor made for WkiiLeaks!!

Real or fake, when’s the last time we all got together like this to giggle at pee jokes? #GoldenShowers

“Baton Rouge officer in Alton Sterling shooting sued over Earth Day arrest”
    http://www.nola.com/news/baton-rouge/index.ssf/2017/01/earth_day_arrest_lawsuit.html

    Excerpt:
BATON ROUGE — Blane Salamoni, one of the Baton Rouge police officers involved in the shooting death of Alton Sterling, is among defendants in a new federal civil rights lawsuit alleging that he and another officers repeatedly struck Ja’Colby Davis in the head during the teenager’s arrest at Baton Rouge’s 2016 Earth Day celebration. Davis’ family says in the suit that three unnamed officers pinned him to the ground while Salamoni and Sgt. Todd Bourgoyne administered a “brutal beating” and arrested the 16-year-old “without cause.”

    • “Police officials and the then-president of the officers’ union, Sgt. Chris Stewart, said shortly after the incident that the video was misleading and didn’t show the entire event, and that Davis struggled with police while resisting arrest”

What do they think we might have seen that would have justified him being beaten while subdued and on the ground? Even if he struck one of them or was ‘difficult to apprehend’ it’s not their job to administer ‘justice’ by beating him.
