Winter Storms Cause Accidents and Deaths Across the U.S.
The snow might look pretty, but with the cold and ice, it’s nothing to play with. Please people, stay calm, safe, and warm.

TIME
A winter storm of snow, freezing rain and bone-chilling temperatures socked the nation’s mid-section and East Coast on Saturday, causing hundreds of accidents on icy roads and putting a crimp on Christmas shopping.
At least five deaths were blamed on the slick roads and authorities were investigating a few other traffic fatalities as possibly weather-related. Perhaps the biggest accident happened in Baltimore, when a tanker carrying gasoline skidded off a highway and exploded, authorities said.
Two people died and at least 15 were injured in the 55-vehicle pileup on Interstate 95, Baltimore City Fire Chief Roman Clark said. He said it was too early to determine the cause of the crash.
“We have nothing but sheets of ice throughout the city, sidewalks,” Clark said.
It was unclear whether the pileup started before the tanker crash or was caused by it. The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed…

I am really glad I moved to North Carolina! I don’t miss the snow at all. Have a good week. Barbara

Barbara,
It’s good you are happy living in North Carolina. I have friends who moved to Texas and they got snow — along with numerous car accidents because the people weren’t experienced driving in it.
Although I’m in an area of Illinois that is mainly flat, there are people who drive too fast on the slippery roads. I can’t imagine what it would be like in an area of hills.

We have freezing rain predicted for this weekend. I had planned to stay-in anyway. If people want to come for dinner, they can ice skate over. 🙂

Or perhaps they can toboggan. You can serve hot cocoa. Ha ha

Barbara,
LOL! This area is too flat for a toboggan unless they have reindeer to pull it. LOL! Hot cocoa? That sounds good. 🙂

That would be scary as well “The roads were so slick that authorities had to move motorists stranded on an overpass with a ladder.”

Yep. Sure is scary. By stranded, they mean the vehicles were unable to move. That happens when there’s lots of snow that hasn’t been plowed. It happened to me in 1979 during the Bilandic winter, in my little read wheel drive Chevy Chevette. 😦

Dear Xena,
Down here in Florida, we watch the TV in horror when we see the multi-car pile up accidents because of the snow.
We could use a little morale boosting.Thank you President Carter.

Today has been a day of news about cold-blooded murder across this planet. I was happy to come across the morale booster. Happy that you got a boost too. President Carter has a righteous heart.
