Black Lives Matter Movement Catches Social Media Hell For Iowa Cops Killed By A White Man

Leonard Greene of the New York Daily News articulated it very well;

“If you think black people are relieved that the suspect in the shooting death of two Iowa police officers is a white guy, you’ve got it all wrong.”

“If anything, most black people, like any other law-abiding citizens or residents, were outraged and angered over these kind of sick assaults on our communities.”

“But we are also tired of the speed-of-light rush to judgment, and the collective need to blame black people for all of society’s ills.”

“That is exactly what happened in the hours after police officer Justin Martin and Sgt. Tony Beminio were ambushed by a cowardly lone gunman as they sat in their patrol cars early Wednesday morning.”

“Social media, with its tweet-first-ask-questions-later way of communicating, quickly became an ugly, racist lynch mob intent on stringing up anyone ever associated with the Black Lives Matter movement.”

Scott Michael Greene, 46, is the lone suspect for the slayings of Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin and Des Moines Police Sargent Tony Beminio.  As Leonard Greene describes it, Greene’s turning himself in saved law enforcement the trouble of taking down some innocent black man for the crime.

According to the New York Daily News;

“Police believe Greene began his rampage Wednesday by firing more than two dozen rounds at Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin as he sat in his squad car about 1 a.m.

“I wouldn’t call it a confrontation,” said Police Chief Ross McCarty of Urbandale, which is in the Des Moines metropolitan area. “I don’t think (Martin) may have even been aware that there was a gunman next to him.”

Officer Justin Martin was 24-years old and had just graduated from the academy and started on patrol in August.

About 20 minutes after Officer Martin was killed, 2 miles away, Greene shot and killed Des Moines Police Sgt. Anthony Beminio as he sat in his cruiser.

Sargent Anthony Beminio was 39-years old.  He joined the Des Moines police department in 2005.  Beminio was a father of three who served as a school resource officer and a robbery homicide detective before he was recently promoted.

Greene ended the manhunt for the cop killer(s) after flagging down a Natural Resources Department officer on a gravel road about 35 miles west of where the officers were killed. Cops arrested Greene without incident and found no weapons on him.  He was taken by ambulance to a Des Moines hospital after complaining about an unspecified medical issue.

Greene has a history of police confrontations.  According to the Des Moines Register, in 2014, he was charged with misdemeanor interference for resisting an officer’s attempt to pat him down for weapons.   Greene plead guilty to the charge.

The New York Daily News reports that two days after his 2014 police encounter, Greene called a man the N-word and threatened to kill him. He pleaded guilty to a harassment charge and was sentenced to one year of probation.

Two weeks before he killed the two Iowa officers, Greene’s 66-year-old mother was arrested for allegedly assaulting him. Police said the two got into a fight when the mother ordered Greene to remove his daughter’s service dog from her home.

Funeral services for Sergeant Anthony Beminio will be held Monday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. The service will be at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines.

Funeral services for officer Justin Martin will be held Tuesday at 11:40 a.m. at South Calhoun Middle School in his hometown of Rockwell City. The city of 1,700 is about 75 miles northwest of Des Moines.  He will be buried at Rosehill Cemetery.

Our condolences to the families of Officer Justin Martin and Sargent Anthony Beminio.  May they rest in peace.

The Young Turks give more information about Greene’s background.  They also ask the question, where is Blue Lives Matter?

  1. My problem is with Law enforcement’s & mainstream media’s speculating that suspects in these cases might be “involved in black lives matter”
Because this implies anyone who’s actively involved with BLM’s official org. or those who support it’s ideals could be out there looking to kill police. Obviously that’s not even close to reality.
And who said any black criminal who kills a cop is necessarily even sympathetic to BLM’s mission? Most criminals really aren’t the socially conscience types!
We can expect ignorant hate mongering from the RWNJ websites like Fox, Brietbart & Drudge. It’s their job to push the narrative that every black person is a criminal, even 12yo boys playing in the park, so it helps to frame BLM as responcible for every crime commited by any black person.
But i don’t expect the regular media to entertain that type of BS.

And i was getting a little choked up watching this cop crying during the presser ( something about men getting emotional like that affects me) up until he said that BS about the “certain segment of society” part. SMH.
Apparently that asshole isn’t much of a crack detective.
Someone should tell him that most of the “certain segment of society” out there looking to kill cops are likely to live next door to him. Unless of course they’ve packed their camos & gear & making youtube videos of their armed take over of the nearest wildlife sactuary.

    • Shannon,
I believe we can say that no one can detect an enemy based on their outward appearance. There’s a spiritual saying that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. It’s the evil that people allow to dwell in their heart and mind that is the enemy; not the color of their skin.

You are so right; “… the “certain segment of society” out there looking to kill cops are likely to live next door to him.”

“But i don’t expect the regular media to entertain that type of BS.”

      But why?

We see it every night on local news casts.

Whites are still the majority in this country and what is covered by the media is dependent on them.

The media knows that covering interracial violence is what gets white viewers especially if it’s a police shooing a minority because most whites are taught from when they are young that the police exists to protect them from ‘those people’ many of whom don’t look like them.

“Someone should tell him that most of the “certain segment of society” out there looking to kill cops are likely to live next door to him. Unless of course they’ve packed their camos & gear & making youtube videos of their armed take over of the nearest wildlife sactuary.”

True but stranger danger sells and people are more likely to fear someone who doesn’t look like them even though the first persons that cops question in a missing person case or homicide is the significant other or spouse of the victim.

So tragic, so sad…officers ambushed and killed by a white terrorist. Suspected killer Greene cowardly went after them like sitting ducks…such evil! Horrific!

My prayers are with their loved ones. May Sargent Anthony Beminio and Officer Justin Martin rest in peace.

Xena, the Young Turks news video you posted in your article made some good points.

Before being a patrol officer, Sgt Beminio had served as a high school resource officer.

    Excerpt from http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2016/11/02/des-moines-police-sgt-tony-beminio-always-just-smiling/93191758/ :

“He just had a great relationship with all of the students,” said Steve Foritano, a former Polk County prosecutor. One of his children attended Roosevelt during Beminio’s tenure there. “(He) always had a big smile on his face. He was just a great guy.

“I think everybody is just shocked and heartbroken,” he said.

Justin Martin being sworn in as an Urbandale police officer(“Photo: Provided to The Des Moines Register”)

One of officer Justin Martin’s remembers:

“He was a kind, gentle, compassionate man who was always concerned with serving the public,” professor Fred Jones said. “That’s why he went into police work. He was smart and had great social skills. He just had it all.” </blockquote

This is exactly what I have discussed several times. Even my post on Scott Michael Greene confirms this. I’ve repeatedly said racial double standards in reporting LEO deaths cheapen the lives of the officers people claim that they love. It’s not just blue lives matter that have minimal outrage over white cop killers. I see the same thing on all media(liberal and conservative). I’ve been on liberal and centrist sites like Yahoo, cbsnews, nbcnews, ABC.go, etc. you see the same excessive outrage and comments on black cop killers . Minimal to no outrage over white cop killers. I’ve seen articles on ABC.go and Breitbart that describe a cop killed by a white cop killer. There will not be a single comment. The article can be days old,ZERO.
To further prove my point. Eight LEOs were killed within a week. All of the killers were not BLACK. I didn’t see any media outlet ask why there’s a rash of cop killers. No War on Cops. No comments from Sheriff Clarke, Rudy Giuliani, Harry Houck. If anyone saw media people ask about the rash of cop killings , please let me know.

    • Chuquest,
I made an effort to take you up on the rash of recent cop killings in the media. What I found is that no media has reported on it since July. Of course, in July the discussion was based on cop killings in Baton Rouge and Dallas.

Some of the alt-right folks like to use the “black on black” crime argument, but they are silent on white on white crime and particularly, when cop killers are White.

It breaks my heart to see that their hearts are of stone colored with racial bigotry to the point where they close their eyes to the sadness of families of those killed. But of course, they are the folks who only like to denigrate deceased Blacks.

Another thing bigots like to do is attack, President Obama, BLM,AG Lynch Rev Sharpton.
When 18 white cop killer Trenton Forster killed that police officer, another cop went on a tirade. He talked about how upset he was about losing a brother Officer. He ended his Facebook post with President Obama say something. I thought why is he putting the emphasis on President Obama and calling President Obama by name. The emphasis should be on Trenton Forster , the white cop killer that killed your brother Officer. He also didn’t call out Trenton Forster by name. In my opinion, he just disrespected his fellow Officer.

Thanks for allowing me to post.

  7. HLN had reported that Scott Greene had not been charged. I went on a search for an update. He has been charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder. His bond is set at $5million on each charge.

This was on the blue lives matter website. Its a letter from the son of slain Officer Patrick Sondron. It’s a sad letter and a tribute to his dad. Patrick Sondron is the 10th officer killed in the line of duty within a 2 week period. The last paragraph of Jason Sondron’s letter says much. Also,Jason puts the focus on the criminal that killed his father. Not President Obama,BLM,Rev Sharpton,AG Holder,AG Lynch,Beyonce Knowles,Colin Kaepernick. The focus is on the white cop killer. Jason had to state his father’s killer was white. I’m sure Jason will get the justice and solace he wants.
