Floridians – Hurricane Matthew On Its Way. President Obama Speaks

Here is President Obama’s conference on Hurricane Matthew.  If those in its path in Florida get instructions to evacuate, please do so.  You can replace property, but not life.

  1. Xena and friends,

For Heaven’s sake, it is already October. Haiti, Cuba Bahamas have been hit hard. I was at the grocery store and it was packed with folks stocking up. In Florida, these storms inevitably cause power outages. Let’s pray that Matthew peters out soon, Gronda

    • Gronda,
Since there are more than a handful of people I know in Florida, I am very concerned for safety. I saw on the news that Home Depot had to order additional generators, bottled water, and boards for boarding up windows. They sold out this morning. The man said that flashlights and batteries were selling too.

I pray not only for the safety of people, but also for the animals and especially pets. Too often in hurricanes and floods, pets are left behind to fend for themselves. It was suggested that if people must leave pets behind, to not lock them up in crates or rooms. They should be free to follow their survival instincts.

Here’s hoping and praying for the best for you guys.

  2. Luckily the city decided to accommodate pets at certain shelters because too many ppl would rather stay home & die with their friends than leave them to go to a shelter. I know i would never leave my fuzzy kids. But for years ppl were dying at home because they wouldn’t let pets in shelters. I mean how senseless is that?

    • Shannon,
If shelters are provided, I would take that route in the event of an evacuation. If not, I would leave and take my furry faced kid with me — maybe fly out to a relative or a long car ride away from danger. Many hotels now allow dogs.

  4. According to Weather Underground, Matthew is a slow moving hurricane. It’s not a category 4 with winds up to 140 miles per hour. This is a hurricane that should be taken very seriously.

    • Mindyme,
      Are you evacuating?

      • No, I’m not in an evacuation zone as far as water goes but my oldest son and his family who live closer to the beach left yesterday and are in a hotel in Alabama. We’re just starting to get really big rains here, landfall is now forecast to be around 2 pm. We’re losing TV signal intermittently.

        • Mindyme,
I appreciate you taking the time to let us know what is happening. There are quite a few people who participate here and who I know who are in Florida.

They said on the news that the hurricane is moving inland. Please, please stay safe.

          • I’m safe. I live in the same neighborhood as 2 of my sons. When my electricity went out I spent the rest of the storm at their house. They only lost power for about 15 minutes. The electricity at my house is still not back on. Utility services are hoping to have power restored to everyone by the end of the weekend.

            I hope everyone is safe!

(Whew!) It’s soooooo good to hear from you. Hopefully your power will be back on before I post this comment.

    • Water and sewer services have been cut off for those in the beaches evacuation zone. Alcohol sales have stopped 🙂 and open carry is allowed for those evacuating. People are already posting on news sites FB pages how eager some are to ‘shoot looters’. 😦
