Funeral Scheduled Tomorrow For Ashley Guindon

Ashley Guindon, a Prince William County law enforcement officer, was killed last Saturday evening on her first day on the street when she responded to a call about a possible domestic matter.  Ashley was 28 years old.

Ashley is a native of Springfield, MA. Her family moved to New Hampshire, and she moved to Prince William County, Virginia where she became a police officer on February 27, 2016. West Springfield’s mayor is asking local residents to line the streets on Monday to show their respect to Ashley, whose funeral will be held Monday morning at Sacred Heart Church with burial to follow at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Cemetery.

According to investigators, Ashley and two other police officers were shot by Ronald Hamilton, (age 32) within moments after Hamilton shot and killed his 29-year old wife Crystal. Crystal called 911 before she was killed. The three officers did not stand a chance, as they were shot by Hamilton the moment they arrived. Officers Jesse Hempen, 31, and David McKeown, 33, are expected to recover from the injuries they sustained.

-Ronald-Hamilton-0300-jpgRonald Hamilton is an active duty Army staff sergeant, who was assigned to the Joint Staff Support Center at the Pentagon. Hamilton’s 11-year old son managed to escape from the house before the shooting of the officers. Hamilton was armed with a rifle and a handgun. He was taken alive, arrested at the scene and has been charged.

Ashley was remembered as a “bright” and “loving” woman with a keen sense of fashion. She was a former reservist with the Marine Corps, having served as a field radio operator. She was also a pilot who earned a degree in aeronautical sciences from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2011.  Ashley worked as an intern with the Prince William County Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and graduated from the academy in 2015, officials say.

    So heartbreaking. I hope a huge crowd lines the streets tomorrow in Springfield to honor Ashley.

    I was so moved watching this video a few days ago of a miles-long motorcade that honored Ashley as it escorted her body to the funeral home in Virginia:

    My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.

    Her life was stolen by the cruel, cowardly ambush of cold-hearted Hamilton.

    My prayers are also for Ofcs. Jesse Hempen and David McKeown as they recover from their wounds.

      Amen to all you say, and let’s not forget Crystal, Hamilton’s wife. I hope that their 11 year old son gets whatever counseling he needs. The actions of one man has affected the lives of 3 families and his own. It’s very sad.

        According to the Daily Mail,

        Friends of Crystal said that “She was just an amazing person. She was beautiful inside and out and she didn’t deserve this.” Her son had just made honor roll.

        Crystal Hamilton worked for the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment as a recovery care coordinator, according to her Facebook page.

        She started at Quantico, but had been offered a job working with wounded Marines hospitalized at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., which she loved, her friends said.

        May she rest in peace.

          Mr. Militant, thanks for your kind words. I am against humans killing humans, period. If I had the time, I could no doubt blog about someone with a gun killing someone everyday. This story grabbed my heart for several reasons. One is that Hamilton killed his son’s mom, and Ashley, a mom’s daughter. He worked in the Pentagon so he was not a criminal. Two, is that when anger mixes with guns, no good comes from it.

    I know Ashley would have contributed so much to that community. You can see how much she cared, even going through extra training at the Special Victims Unit. In fact, she would have helped that very family if given the chance.
    I like to think of her flying her airplane around heaven right now.

    Once again Xena you show how you care for all people. No matter what racial background. No matter civilian or leo. Able bodied or disabled. The fact that you are highlighting this officers death shows the person you are. You highlight police criminality. Yet you offer condolences for this slain cop. People such as Harry Houck,Sherriff Clarke and the War on Cops people that only use police deaths to promote racism towards blacks(although they’re extremely silent on white cop killers),can learn from you.

      Thanks for your kind words and recognizing my heart. Ashley is a victim of gun violence. The situation has many layers. The perpetrator was not a criminal; a “thug”. It’s since been reported that he was involved in domestic violence previously and was placed on one of those diversion programs like George Zimmerman was. Well, both continued owning guns, and people are dead because of them.

      How can we separate personalities from who should be allowed to own a gun? There is no way of doing that with the re-interpretation of the original purpose of the second amendment that raises arguments about gun ownership. We cannot legislate thoughts and potential thoughts, and this applies to people deputized to carry weapons as well as citizens.

      Chuquest, unlike those who want to paint me and this blog to hate cops and want to see them killed, you continue acknowledging the truth of my position, and I am ever so grateful to you for doing that. I’m against killing, PERIOD.
