Two Louisiana Law Enforcement Officers Charged With Murder

Tuesday evening, Officers Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford pursued a SUV driven by Chris Few. It happened about 90 miles northwest of Baton Rouge in the town of Marksville. Few’s 6-year old son was in the passenger’s seat. Few was on a dead-end street, and that is when the two officers opened fire, hitting Jeremy Mardis five times in the head and chest, killing him. His dad was seriously wounded.

There are conflicting reports; some saying that there was a warrant out for Few, and others saying there was no warrant. No gun was found in Few’s possession.

Four officers were involved in the chase. All have been placed on paid administrative leave, but Greenhouse Jr. ,23, and Stafford, 32, have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

State Police Col. Michael Edmonson said that they used some of the body cam footage in the investigation to make the decision to charge the two officers.

Greenhouse and Stafford were working second jobs as city marshals when the shooting happened. Greenhouse is a full-time Marksville police lieutenant and Stafford is a marshal in Alexandria.

KATC reports that their investigation uncovered that both officers have been previously accused of civil rights violations.

In October, 2011, Lt. Derrick Stafford was indicted by a Rapides Parish grand jury on two counts of aggravated rape. The case was resolved. The station has been unable to obtain the case documents.

Derrick Stafford has five pending civil lawsuits involving him in Avoyelles Parish. He’s also worked for the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Department, Marksville Police Department and the Chenyville Police Department.  Norris Greenhouse Jr. was also named in several of the suits. The District Attorney recused himself from the case because Greenhouse’s father is an Assistant District Attorney.

Jeremy’s funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. He will be buried in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

    How on Gods Green Earth does one get hired, to a job in LE carrying a gun with 5 pending civil rights cases !!!!!!! I’m stunned on that one. Back in the day when my dad was a cop in NJ, if someone applied to the force with anything at all, other than minor MV violations, that app hit the circular file………..it was go away………….and stay away.

    How can a civilized society keep losing ground ???????

      Police departments don’t give a crap any more about running background checks on applicants.

      The Palm Beach Gardens PD claimed that the background check of the officer who murdered Corey Jones came back clean, but it only took the media a day or so to uncover that the officer (Raja) had had several excessive force claims against him including assaulting a 70 y/o woman in a parking lot dispute and Raja ‘forgetting’ to turn over some drug evidence which resulted in the case being thrown out of court or the fact that Raja carried not one but two knives on his person while he was a police officer at JFK hospital.

          Also, Raja had just been with the PBG PD since April and was still on probation, but he was allowed to perform surveillance for which he had no training.

          Raja had no trouble teaching his class the day after the murder. This guy is a sociopath like his George Zimmerman.

    I weep for Jeremy. So heartbreaking. A precious child who must have been terrified in the last moments of his precious life.

    His grandmother in a statement said

    “Jeremy was a special gift from God. He was always smiling, always happy He was diagnosed with autism when he was 2. He loved everyone he met and they loved him. … He didn’t deserve what happened.”

    May you rest in peace, dear Jeremy.

      Add to the fact that this occurred in Louisiana.

      But they do deserve the death penalty in my opinion because they were excessively reckless in firing at a vehicle that was moving away from them which meant that those bullets could have injured or killed bystanders.

      I hear you. Let us hope that if they don’t enter a plea bargain, that the jury or if a bench trial, the judge convicts. You know, we’ve seen before in cases where even a Black officer who killed an elderly White man in a nursing home was acquitted at a bench trial. The whole darn system stinks.

    Through tears with heavy heart I search, pray, hope…too many children killed…gone too soon…when will it ever end?…deep sadness

    Can you hear the prayer of the children?
    On bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room
    Empty eyes with no more tears to cry
    Turning heavenward toward the light

    Angry guns preach a gospel full of hate,

    I read about this case on Saturday. This is how LEOs are supposed to go after other LEOs,when unarmed civilians are killed and wounded. The family of Few/Mardis are getting the system to work for them. In 3 days we had these black cops arrested and charged with crimes upon killing and wounding this white kid and dad. No rallies,petition,marches,massive media coverage,no special prosecutor. Black families deserve the same actions for their loved ones,when white cops kill their family members. Also media outlets aren’t bringing up Fry’s criminal past . Because it’s understood that Fry/Mardis are victims. Also Xena this is another example of how wrong your distractors are when they accuse you of BGI. This site wants justice for this white family like it does black families.

      Your comments brought tears to my eyes. Equality for all, equal justice for all, excludes no one. Forgive me if I sound preachy, and I hope that it doesn’t offend anyone — a very long time ago when reading about the tree of the KNOWLEDGE of good and evil, considering them with the teachings of Christ in doing no evil, I came to understand that once a person determines that something is wrong, then it is always wrong. Once determining that something is good, then it is always good. This begins with the individual then carries forth in all areas of life.

      If the law says that it is wrong for me to chase a running person and shoot at them, then it is wrong for others to do that, regardless of their position, because authority is given by fallible people, to fallible people.

      Death and grief do not discriminate. It cares not about race, age, riches, gender, education, intelligence. It takes the infant from the womb, the person who lives to be over a hundred, and all ages in-between.

      Chuquest, my accusers know that they lie about me more than a stray dog has fleas.

      And, no chief of police or police union giving the officers’ side of the story and disparaging the victims to justify shooting them and blaming the father for having his little son out at 9:30 at night.

    This is heartbreaking news. I have been in the area. It is immoral for officers to shoot anyone, but to shoot when there are children there is no excuse. I am glad these two officers were arrested and charged. I think the police need to stop watching movies like Fast and Furious.
    Keep the peace by respecting citizens, assisting them and arresting those who have broken the law. Do not murder them. Hugs, Barbara

    Looks like there might be some history between Lew’s girlfriend, Lew, and Greenhouse. The g/f was a former classmate of Greenhouse and he started to try to connect with her leading Lew to tell him to not show up at his home again.
