    • Hey Racer! “Stand up and fight” screamed at me.

By the way, I have no idea why your comment went to moderation. If it happens again I will check with Word Press.

Xena, I hear you when you write this about the song you posted:

“Stand up and fight” screamed at me.”

I think of the quotation “Freedom is a constant struggle” and the chorus lyrics of Bob Marley’s song:

“Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don’t give up the fight!”

As one thinks back to the Civil Rights Movement, one can’t help but admire and respect the courage and determination of the individuals in the struggle for civil rights. They continued despite the beatings, fire hoses, dogs, and high voltage cattle prods:

High school students being hit by a high-pressure water jet from a fire hose, Birmingham, AL in 1963

“Policeman cattle prods a white student “sitting in” to protest segregation and support civil rights in St. Augustine, Florida, 1964″

Bit off topic, but I do hope more schools will start in early grades teaching character building and push anti-bullying curriculum.

Peter Yarrow has done much to help through his song:

We really need to come together as community:

I’ve listened to it repeated times also.

For me, I feel a positive glow inside when I stand up for what is right, just, and true.

Remember Joan Baez singing Carry It On during the days of of Civil Rights Movement?

There’s a man by my side walking
There’s a voice within me talking,
There’s a voice, within me saying,
Carry it on, carry it on.

They will tell their empty stories,
Send their dogs to bite our bodies,
They will lock us up in prison,
Carry it on, carry it on.

When you can’t go on any longer,
Take the hand, hand of your brother,
      Every victory brings another,
Carry it on, carry it on.

Carry it on, carry it on.
