A Florida county is considering changes to its charter review board after two elected members have focused on punishing political enemies through extralegal tactics instead of government business.

The Sarasota County charter review board typically proposes minor changes to the county charter when they meet three times a year, but critics say two of its members — Pat Wayman and Steven R. Fields — have been using their positions to usurp authority from other elected officials, reported the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

    I call them ‘Baggers and have no problem with it, as far as I’m concerned they’re about as Anti-American as you can get and basically want to hand us over to the Fat Cats.
    Grass roots organization to “Take back America” my eye, take it back from who? Steal it from the Middle/Working Class so the Fat Cats can sell us out to the Chinese more likely.

      While the government focuses on what they do that promotes violence against the government, there are some who commit crimes daily against private citizens. They do it is such a way to force their victims into the civil courts and even when there is no chance that the perpetrators can win the case, they consider it a win by forcing their victims to pay huge amounts in legal fees. That is happening now in the case involving Santiago. The case should have been resolved around April, but the perpetrator uses dilatory tactics. He even filed his own documents with the court although he has a court appointed attorney. That meant that Santiago’s lawyer spent time preparing papers for the court to strike what the perp filed. The court did strike them.

      The court has denied all of the perp’s motions and arguments. He now mocks Santiago for paying legal fees seeking justice. The perp is an admitted sovereign citizen who makes excuses for why he is not, but his reputation fits the description and ideologies, including what the FBI describes as “paper terrorism” in the courts.

        It’s too bad he can’t find someone to take on his case on a pro bono basis or that the Court can’t at least recover his court costs for him.

          Hey Jim! The court can order reimbursement. It will hear the requests for sanctions at trial. The problem is that the perp gets about $120 in County general assistance. It doesn’t appear that he has plans to be ever be employed.

          Pro bono? Are you kidding? Most pro bono lawyers take cases that require one hearing — two at the most. Santiago has one of the best lawyers in California. The perp had one of his co-conspirators dox him, and finding that he practices also in the federal system and has prevailed in having people held in contempt and jailed, must have discouraged them from attacking him.

      Hey Juan! Know why their followers are dumber? Because most do not know the foundation of their arguments because they speak with lots of rhetoric and omit the real motivation of their ideologies. When someone says “constitution” and accuses the government of violating it, it might gather interest. Of course, sovereign citizens omit that they believe all amendments to the constitution are “unlawful.”

    The courts have certain discretion because they’re run by thinking human beings.
    But they’re too permissive, like overly protective of the obviously quilty ones.
    & its frustrating for those trying to do the right thing.
    At first you feel a certain kinda way in court when you know you’re in the right about something; like you’re the one who should be protected, because you are right!
    But courts totally ignore all the problems victims are still having to endure while waiting for the perp to get all their rights & feelings considered.
    Sux.

      Shannon, that is true. But even the judges’ patience can come to an end. For example, when a judge tells the lawyers to work something out. Lawyers understand what that means. It’s not good for defendants to fail to cooperate.

    I’m glad you wrote this article. Active and retired LEOs will go on tv and talk about,how rhetoric from Black Lives Matter gets LEOs killed. Yet they will rarely if at all talk about the rhetoric from sovereign citizens groups that call for LEO deaths and President Obama’s assassination.

      Hey Chuquest. You are so right. (By the way, it’s a reblog so I can’t take credit for the original post.) I can’t say that I know all of what Black Lives Matters promotes, but I’ve not read anything that says they promote violence or killing. Of course, I’m talking about spokespersons for the movement, and not people who trash talk who are only speaking for themselves. Sovereign citizens are known for killing members of law enforcement, as well as others. Timothy McVeigh was a sovereign citizen.

      I enjoyed the following video. It covers a lot in about 3 minutes.
