Officer Indicted For Murder In Cincinnati

Yesterday, the City of Cincinnati was preparing for disgruntled citizens to take to the street in response to the release of a police officer’s body cam video and a grand jury’s decision. The University of Cincinnati even closed its main campus in anticipation. But today, there will be no protests for an arrest in the killing of Samuel DuBose.

On July 19, 2015, University of Cincinnati police Officer Ray Tensing pulled 43 year-old Samuel DuBose over for a traffic stop. Samuel was driving a green 1998 Honda Accord without a front license plate. Tensing shot DuBose in the head.

Officer Ray Tensing’s body camera captured the moment when he killed Samuel DuBose  With the release of the body cam video, also came an indictment for murder in what a prosecutor called a shooting that was “unwarranted” and “senseless.”

A Hamilton County grand jury returned the indictment. Tensing has turned himself in.

Joseph T. Deters, the county prosecutor, stated at a press conference that Officer Tensing “purposely killed” Samuel DuBose after the officer lost his temper in what he called a “chicken crap” traffic stop.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years. This is the most asinine act I’ve ever seen a police officer make, totally unwarranted. He purposely killed him. He should never have been a police officer.”

Samuel DuBose is the father of 10.

If convicted, Ray Tensing can be sentenced to life in prison.

Family_of_Samuel_Dubose_hires_George_Zim_3228780000_22058758_ver1.0_640_480Florida attorney Mark O’Mara represents Samuel’s family. Mark O’Mara was the lead defense attorney for George Zimmerman who was charged and acquitted of second-degree murder for the killing of Trayvon Martin.  I suppose it can be said that O’Mara represents a family that is also supported by the Black Lives Matter movement.

  1. I am spitting mad that this family is represented by Mark O’Mara. I see it as a slap in the face and I can’t get past that point, full stop! Are we that forgiving and why would a family in Ohio need the “help” from the guy who got gz off by replaying the same fears over and over that led to their own son’s/family member’s murder?

Sorry for me, it overshadows everything and I can’t help but to think what Sybrina and Tracy might be feeling as THEY are the natural, true allies to the Dubose family, not Mark “Birth of a Nation” O’Mara. Baby Jesus help me!

    • Hey Princess6. I hear you, but know what? Did you take a look at O’Mara’s face? It’s been 2 years since the verdict in Zimmerman’s case, and the lines in O’Mara’s face look chiseled as if it’s been 10 years. Maybe his conscience is bothering him, or maybe he’s had a change of heart. Maybe he realizes that he got a loose cannon off. Or, maybe it’s all of the aforementioned, or none of them.

I forget the news source now, but they have a video of O’Mara saying good things about Samuel. I only wish that he had thought about Tracy and Sybrina when he disparaged Trayvon.

There’s nothing more for O’Mara to do now for Samuel’s family. I don’t think he practices in civil rights to represent them on a wrongful death lawsuit, but I could be mistaken.

Another way of looking at it also is that Samuel’s family retained a lawyer who used his White privilege to make sure there was an investigation — a quick investigation — an investigation that led to indictment.

      • Two sides to a story

I noticed that about his face. And it appeared he was not happy with GZ when he ended up in the public eye for his escapades and West took over. And it’s true that the DuBose family may have wanted a high-profile white attorney who has a reputation for winning cases.

It also bugs me that he played GZ’s case in the media online and in the media when he said he wouldn’t do that and he had a big hand in demonizing Trayvon. Shame on him. Hopefully he learned a lesson.

        • Two sides,
We need Roderick to contribute to O’Mara’s astrological make-up. I don’t know the time and place he was born, but his sun-sign is the same as Trayvon’s — Aquarius. I wonder if a living Aquarian who demonizes a dead Aquarian for the sake of setting a killer free ends up being the living dead?

How awful. I am beside myself with no explanation. What is it that a member of law enforcement feels that they can just kill people – black citizens – whenever they darn well please? A traffic stop! I am speechless.

  6. Thank God there was a body camera…..at least one of the other officers involved will also have to face the music for their lies when at least one made a report saying he witnessed the officer being dragged and the tape proved otherwise and the officer finally admitted he lost his balance when he fired and was never dragged.

    • Towerflower. Your comment speaks volumes. It hits on the real issue — that of cops lying. If the shootings are justified, there’s no reason for them to lie.

Xena, what strategy do you think the officer’s defense attorney will use? I hope I’m not going to hear that this was an accident or watch the victim getting demonized again.

    Liked by 2 people

    • Two sides, there will no doubt be a strategy of clairvoyance. Defense will say what Samuel intended to do. It will say what the officer thought Samuel was doing or intended to do. And yes, there will be demonizing of the victim.

But just read Princss6’s comments, and we see what type of reputation that gives to defense counsel who uses clairvoyance and demonizing of the deceased so the killer walks free. It’s not a good reputation.

By the way, where is Jose Baez these days? See what I mean?

On the other hand, where is Mark O’Mara these days? Playing on the right side of history this time, I guess. I wonder if he ever regrets the nasty stuff he did while defending GZ.

Oh, I hope the jury isn’t all pro-police and won’t buy into the illusions that will be presented! As we learned from the Kelly Thomas case, even a shocking murder and a trial don’t equal justice. But the tide may be turning as more and more cases surface.

    • No doubt he was “Reaching for a Weapon,” that happened here where I live, the Cops had a kid at gunpoint with his hands up, the last cop to show up claims he was “Reaching for the gun in his waistband” and 5sec after he got there he opened fire. None of the other cops who already had him at gunpoint fired, including the Sergent who was talking to the kid. “Reaching for a Weapon” is always their fallback position, hopefully it won’t work this time.

      • While they may try the tape shows otherwise…..he lets him rummage through his glove compartment and retrieve the unopened bottle of gin off the floorboard….all hiding places for a potential gun….and he never once pulled his gun nor screamed show me your hands or don’t reach for anything. He was even complying by undoing his seatbelt when his foot slipped and car moved forward slightly and the cop lost it. Mr. DuBose was killed instantly and had no control of how his body reacted….meaning the sudden acceleration of the car and the revving of the engine was the aftermath of his death and not before….muscles may relax forcing the weight of his foot onto the accelerator.

I wonder why he didn’t put the car in park….I’m going to have my cop friend about that one.

It seems we never have a chance to rest and catch our breath before another unjust killing takes place.

    So much sadness.

So many families of victims in pain.

So many people who are identifying with the victims and praying for the safety of their own children and loved ones.

    So heartbreaking.

    From indépendant review and investigation:

The fatal shooting of Samuel Dubose during an off-campus traffic stop on July 19 never should have occurred. This incident, which resulted in a tragic loss of life, was entirely preventable.
