Baltimore Mayor Replaces Police Commissioner

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake replaced the city’s police commissioner Wednesday after officials called for his resignation in the wake of a report by the city’s police union criticizing his handling of riots in April.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, the mayor’s office said it had replaced Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts with Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

The announcement came the same day that the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police released a report highly critical of Batts’s handling of unrest in the city following the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old unarmed black man who died in police custody.

Batts was appointed police commissioner in September 2012 and previously served as chief of police in Oakland, Calif.

If we still played 45’s on a record player, we would all be stuck on a scratch!

    Repeat………..Repeat………..over……….and over again.

  2. I think the answer is if you don’t want your city upset with riots, train your GD police officers to not kill suspects. To deliver them to the courts without their spines having been severed. How hard can that be?

Our Governor will sign for the removal of the Confederate (Rebel Banner) from the SC Statehouse grounds today at 4:00.

I look forward to this symbol of Oppression and Hate being lowered, and because of that, many hearts uplifted in it’s place.

(Just one small step in such a long road to be traveled)

    • Kindheart,
I am happy to hear that the SC government had a wake-up call. The blood of those 9 spirits that were taken from this life by Roof is like seed. This nation would not be having this conversation, nor these positive changes, had that not happened. Also, yesterday The Fifth Column reported on news that Stormfront, a website that promotes White Supremacy under an angry tone, has been contacted by the FBI.

One pen will go to each family that lost a loved one in the Mother Emanuel Massacre from signing this bill. I hope they find a small amount of peace in knowing: “Not only the people here, but the State Representatives, and most of the US grieve with them.”

    God Bless You,

Rest in Peace Emanuel 9….You will NEVER be forgotten.

I’m thinking about doing some reblogging this evening, and then putting up an “ANY TOPIC” discussion thread to run through the weekend. That is a change from “open discussion.” I think the “any topic” is more inviting.

    What say thou? 🙂

  6. I pledge allegience to a revolution against the great evil of racism and all other forms of oppression until the day I die. Love, Claire

    • Claire, I join with you in that pledge, as well as standing against religious, gender, and bigotry against gays. All men are created equal.
