    The senior cop was a training officer and he couldn’t take a second and think, “is that a real gun?” Unbelievable..

      I didn’t realize that the senior cop driving the cruiser (Frank Garmback) was a training officer. I am surprised he was a training officer because I saw this on the Wikipedia page entitled “Shooting of Tamir Rice” :

      Garmback, who was driving the police cruiser, has been a police officer in Cleveland since 2008. In 2014, the City of Cleveland paid US$100,000 to settle an excessive force lawsuit brought against him by a local woman; according to her lawsuit, Garmback “rushed and placed her in a chokehold, tackled her to the ground, twisted her wrist and began hitting her body” and “such reckless, wanton and willful excessive use of force proximately caused bodily injury”. The woman had called the police to report a car blocking her driveway.[25] The settlement does not appear in Garmback’s personnel file.[26]

          What is so awful is that the taxpayers end up having to pay for it.

          (For instance, the city of Inkster wants a one time tax increase to pay for the settlement of 1.4 million with Floyd Dent because the city’s liability insurance only allows for payouts above 2 million dollars.)

      The problem with these look-a-like pellet guns is that they look like the real thing, you just can’t tell until you see it up close and hold them.

        Probably wasn’t a good idea to point a gun at a cop but that’s what a 12 year old does…

          While Tamir had pointed the gun (not proven at other people but it does show video of him pointing it) he wasn’t pointing it at the cops, it was in his waistband, he started to lift his shirt and the police shot.

    This is turning into a “pass the buck” situation. Cops did an investigation but didn’t actually file so they pass the buck to the prosecutor who most likely will pass the buck to a grand jury. If a grand jury comes back with no charges they (police and prosecutor) can sit back and said it wasn’t us, the grand jury made the decision.

    I have always had a problem with the driver of the police vehicle. I still don’t see the rationale of driving up to a potential shooter within a couple of feet and not giving themselves or Tamir any chance or options.

    Garmback was named in a civil rights lawsuit In 2012 for using excessive force. Cleveland settled the case in 2014 for $100,000.
