Open Discussion May 29th

Good afternoon folks!  Santiago here. This is an open discussion thread.  Please share whatever is on your mind, what you have experienced this week, or news stories you would like to discuss.

Here’s my thoughts of the week.  Officer Michael Brelo, who was 1 of 13 officers involved in a 137 shot ambush style murder, was acquitted on Saturday.

Brelo apparently is said to have been justified in jumping on the hood of a vehicle firing 49 rounds into the windshield killing both unarmed occupants, Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.

49 shots! Let’s do some math.  That means that Brelo is responsible for 1/3 of the gun fire that rained down on two unarmed citizens. Their justification or reasoning for the acquittal is somewhat hard to understand.

They claim the car that Russell and Williams were in backfired leaving them to believe the two were armed and fired a shot.  The 2nd portion of the justification isn’t exactly that easy to explain.

The judge stated that he is not going to make an example out of Brelo simply because forensics could not determine what or whose shots exactly caused the death of Russell and Williams.

This is just beyond belief.  What this judge has confirmed is that officers need only come up with a good story to justify the murders they commit.

But what’s even more disturbing is this judge has basically said if you have enough of your fellow officers involved that you can make it so difficult for forensics to figure out whose shot caused the death that officers can simply act like Outlaws in the wild west and gun people down in the most gruesome ways imaginable.

We are talking about a police officer so in fear for his life that he got out of his patrol, car jumped on the hood and fired shot after shot after shot while changing a few clips through the process.

And yet what do we wake up to this weekend? Another acquittal and the DOJ shaking down FIFA instead of shaking down these criminals sworn to protect us.

This is not any Anti-Cop posting. The truth of the matter is their job is not to play judge jury and executioner. Their job is to catch people and bring them in so that they can be punished by a court of law.

On another subject, the video of the 8 month pregnant woman who was arrested has gone viral.

What’s On Your Mind?

  5. That video, the officer did not ask for ID from the first lady they encountered, and the officer is clearly heard saying that he did not think a crime had been committed, so he had no legal basis to demand ID from the 2nd lady at all. He escalated a situation with a pregnant woman instead of using his brains. Even a blind man can see the racism in the is incident.

The trial for officer Brelo: “We are talking about a police officer so in fear for his life that he got out of his patrol, car jumped on the hood and fired shot after shot after shot while changing a few clips through the process.” Those are my thoughts too Srodriquez!

I’d like to hear an update on the pregnant woman. Is she ok? What happened to her? Since it is not illegal to not give your ID when no crime is committed, can she sue? Press charges?

I am sure she will sue and likely they will settle quickly maybe discipline the officer for his conduct this is California whens the last time you saw a police officer arrest or charged for things like this? and even if they get charged you never see convictions

      Like

    • Hey sidewinder! Here’s a video showing the summary and update. The woman was interviewed on MSBNC yesterday also. The funny thing? A judge dismissed the charge of dismissing arrest, but the police department justifies the cop’s take-down action by saying it was because she resisted arrest.

And then there was this brutal beating of a pregnant Georgia woman who then miscarried:

      Excerpt:

Cops beat a Georgia woman so badly that she suffered a miscarriage, according to a new lawsuit.

The suit, filed by Kenya Harris, names the City of Albany, Georgia, police chief John Proctor and officers Ryan Jenkins and Richard Brown, Jr., according to Courthouse News.

The suit claims that in May, 2011, Harris came to the Albany Police department after her son was arrested. She waited five hours to pick him up, but then told Jenkins she needed to leave to tend to her other children at home.

Jenkins said if she made that request again he would take her head and “‘put it to the floor.”

When Harris asked again, the suit alleges “Defendant Officer Jenkins, without provocation, grabbed plaintiff, who weighs less than one hundred twenty (120) pounds, by her neck and slammed her to the ground. Plaintiff momentarily blacked out and came to with defendant Officer Jenkins sitting on her back, and with his knee on her arm. Plaintiff was pregnant at the time.”

The suit was filed on February 5th, and Albany Police Department has confirmed that neither of the officers named in the suit still works for the police force.

    • Two sides, that’s a great dream, but unfortunately, we have the double-jeopardy clause so Zimmerman cannot be tried again for the same crime. What we might get, is the grand jury’s decision. Holder never said what they decided and he neither released investigation findings. Had they returned a no bill, he could have said so and been over with it, but what he said is that the DOJ decided to not press charges.

  17. Remember the lawsuit filed by activists in Ferguson against Robert McCulloch?

Circuit Court Judge Joseph L. Walsh III asked their attorneys to get affidavits from other lawyers or prosecutors to support their claim. Two affidavits were presented, and Judge Walsh accept one. It was provided by Bennett L. Gershman, a law professor and former prosecutor and defense attorney.

Gershman complained about a “gross deviation from proper standards of conduct,” saying he never before saw prosecutors go to “extraordinary lengths to exonerate a potential defendant.”

Although the judge agreed to consider the law professor’s criticism of the conduct of the grand jury that investigated the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown, he has not yet agreed to appoint a special prosecutor to re-examine the case.

I seemed to have missed this story somehow:

“SFPD cover-up exposed in Amilcar Perez-Lopez killing”
    Apr 26, 2015

    Excerpt:

The lies of Chief Greg Suhr and the San Francisco Police Department surrounding the murder of 21-year-old Guatemalan immigrant Amilcar Perez-Lopez were exposed at a press conference in City Hall on Friday.

Attorney Arnoldo Casillas revealed an independent autopsy report as part of a federal lawsuit against Suhr and SFPD showing that Amilcar was running away from undercover officers Craig Tiffe and Eric Reboli, who grabbed him from behind outside of his home in the city’s Mission District and then shot him six times: four bullets in the back, one in the arm, and one to the back of his head.

This explicitly contradicts the repeated allegations of Chief Suhr, who embraced a commonly used tactic of painting the victim of police violence as an aggressive “thug,” stating that not only was Amilcar attempting to steal another man’s bicycle, but that when undercover officers approached him, Amilcar raised a knife over his head and charged the officers, forcing them to fire.
