Recent News On Ferguson and St. Louis
Federal Probe Into St. Louis Police Department
St. Louis CBS Local News reports that as many as 25 St. Louis City police officers are under investigation for being hired to protect drug dealers. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson says the involved officers are no longer on active duty as the investigation continues.
The Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Circuit Attorney are all involved in the investigation that began in December. The investigation began when an off-duty police officer was shot in North St. Louis. The off-duty officer returned fire and the man he shot later turned up dead in a burning car.
In a press release by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, they state that they are unable to discuss details or findings before the investigation has concluded.
Ferguson Municipal Judge Resigns
Judge Ronald Brockmeyer
As a result of the Department of Justice’s investigation and report, Judge Ronald Brockmeyer resigned from the Ferguson bench. He is still assigned to hear cases in Florissant, Breckenridge Hills, Vinita Park and Dellwood. In the DOJ’s report on Ferguson, Judge Brockmeyer was accused of jailing impoverished defendants who were unable to pay fines.
CBS St. Louis reports that Judge Brockmeyer is facing his own legal problems, owing more than $170,000 in back taxes.
The Missouri Supreme Court has assigned Missiouri Court of Appeals Judge Roy Ritcher to St. Louis County Circuit Court to hear all of Ferguson’s pending and future municipal division cases. Judge Ritcher is also authorized to implement needed reforms to Ferguson’s court policies and procedures.
Ferguson City Manager John Shaw Resigns

At a meeting of the Ferguson City Council on Tuesday evening, the Council voted 7-0 to approve a mutual separation agreement with John Shaw. Such agreements are usual when an organization seeks a termination and the person wants to resign.
John Shaw oversaw city agencies that the Department of Justice accused of systematically discriminating against Black residents.
Shaw is the fifth person named in the Justice Department report to lose his job, joining Judge Ronald Brockmeyer; Ferguson Municipal Court Clerk Mary Ann Twitty; and two police department officials including one who supervised Darren Wilson, the officer who killed Michael Brown.

Although Ferguson has a Mayor, the Mayor is mere window dressing. Ferguson Mayor James Knowles is actually part-time, earning less than $5,000 a year for the job. John Shaw was appointed by the city council to an indefinite term of office, and supervised all city departments, including the police department. It was Shaw who hired Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson in 2010, and Shaw who nominated Municipal Judge Brockmeyer.
According to the city charter, only the City Manager, who in this case was Shaw, has authority to hire and fire city workers, including the police chief and police officers.
Is Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson next? Maybe the next City Manager will make that decision for Jackson.

Word Press provides and makes changes for what they think is convenience sake, but there’s so much to decide from — and then they change it. At least some clearing out is happening. Sometimes reports are made and the response is lukewarm. I think the disapproving citizenry that has been pushing back is also helping to sustain this. A two-pronged approach from the people and the Feds. Now if only we could clean Congress up!

At this moment, it’s difficult to contain what satisfaction I do feel in seeing this unveiling of officials – it’s miniscule, but affects me, because Michael Brown never received justice. But for Michael Brown, this unveiling may not have come and the expense of more lives and injustices would continue with impunity by these officials. I hope others understand what I’m conveying here, there is no “bitter sweet”, there is a beginning and an end in everything, racism and bigotry is a travesty, fear will hold the reigns where justice for all members of society should rule. That reign needs to end.
That this happened is no consolation in having to force the rot up from the bottom of the barrel but I think it speaks to the decades of corruption that have permeated Ferguson, they’re being exposed to the world. They’re just not the only town in the USA with the same issues.
As to reparations, I understand what Glenn is saying, yet I also see this unveiling as a beginning toward reparations. It will be slow, not all will be recompensed in some way. The injustices go to the core of the human spirit of the people. Trust I feel will be the most difficult to accept, the hands of time will be the marker for the leap where all can and should feel safe. I am grateful to those who came forward to speak of the injustices, all who have been affected are a part of this change.
The DOJ will continue to monitor, this isn’t the end, I anticipate more to come forward in due time to yet expose others. The message that Ferguson citizens sent is one that should continue loud and clear, the power for change is in their hands. I pray that spirit will continue.

Karma. In this case was reasonably fast compared to most places. They may not be charging DW, but he’s toast, as we say in the real world. He can start looking for that night security job with Fogen. Hell, they can go on a PR tour and tout “How to get away with it” since they did get away with murder.

I ditto the above statements. Holding those accountable is a first step. What now for all the businesses in the area that are now rubble. There is still unfinished business. Michael Brown’s family still needs the whole truth of what happened on 8/9/15 to be forthcoming. The area needs to be made whole. The residents of Ferguson deserve better. The value of buildings in the Ferguson area that were destroyed in the riots amounts to nearly $4.6 million. 17 buildings were destroyed at a level of being declared unsafe.
The lead detective in the Michael Brown case is a St. Louis County Police Department employee. Is it possible he is one who is under investigation? On 8/9 the Police Chief Jackson called the St. Louis PD and asked them to take over the investigation.

Now we know exactly why Darren Wilson’s Name wasn’t released for two weeks they gave him plenty of time to scrub all of his social media accounts and e mail accounts look the mans supervisor is one of many caught up in this.
Consider Wilson came from Jennings PD which had a very similar history as they say if you sit in a barber shop long enough sooner or later you will get a hair cut.

Exactly. The JPD was shut down and disbanded. That alone says it all. If Wilson didn’t get all his e-mails scrubbed completely, it’s only a matter of time. Somebody may even have saved some of his filth and is sitting on them and may give them to someone who matters.

There is the possibility of a class action suit for the whole community. I like the Chicago law firm of Loevy & Loevy. Around 2001, Cincinnati was successful in instituting a class action suit and ended up with a successful resolution.

Just a reminder, this will make the 6th resignation or termination since the DOJ released their report, but there were others who resigned before that. There was an officer who had pointed his rifle at protesters and also Darren Wilson.

I have to admit I was guilty of this myself as an older white registered republican even though my son alleges that I am becoming a flaming liberal. We can live for a thousand years and still not figure out what is wrong with people. The human heart is complicated and carries many motivations for how the “owner” behaves and thinks.
When I hear people argue that Blacks have not succeeded because of personal inabilities or mindsets, I think of comparing that to women in this country. Women were once oppressed; could not own property, could not vote, and till this day, we still fight for equal wages. So, when women say that they are discriminated against in employment, denied mortgages because of their gender, sexually harassed, etc., do we hear arguments in response that it’s their own fault and if they try hard enough, they can be “equal” to men in American society? No.
American history includes what was known as Black Wall street, a successful, independent, financially thriving community in Oklahoma. All of the work and successes went down the drain when a Black man was accused of raping a White woman, and Whites burned the town down.
There are other situations as well for when Blacks were ran off property that they worked hard to obtain.
Starting over from nothing is something that women and Blacks have experienced in this country and not because of anything they did but because of their gender and/or the color of their skin. People don’t realize that the marital laws in the states were legislated to give women rights of inheritance of marital property, and homophobes forget that it’s this marriage equality that is sought with same-sex marriage.
To say it another way, people don’t need a license to love each other. They need it so that the laws recognize them as part of the person they love. We find a similar concept in Civil Rights law, but whether it applies to individuals seeking to redress wrongs is up to judges just like going through nasty divorces, or the challenge of final Wills.
We are a nation that needs laws to correct wrongs that start in hearts, and that never, ever, changes hearts.

my friend & i were talking and i was saying that they’re ( racists, bigots, their apologist trolls & the officials who won’t use their authority to ensure equal justice ) are trying to make us give up by refusing to prosecute these child killers, unarmed ppl & other racist crimes. they want us to stop expecting justice so we might as well just get over it and move along.

This morning on Fox TV, Judge Napolitano is blaming Eric Holder publishing the investigative report for creating the environment which caused the police shooting. From listening and reading different news sources, the shooter was not in the area of the protestors. So far, the police officers look like they will survive the shooting. It did not take long for the right to blame the administration.

the anger at police could not possibly have come from the FACTS that the police there have been abusing peoples rights for a very long time? that the abuse still continues to this day? that the police there still even last night were doing the “snatch and grab” thing that is illegal? and that at minimum one officer was there last night with no name plate on display………also FACT it was not a peaceful protesters that did the shooting, more likely some plant or outsider there trying to discredit the peaceful folks……and there was some fighting among the protesters last night which tells me some infiltrators were trying to cause trouble.

I’m still waiting on more facts to come out from the shooting of the two police officers. Thankfully both will survive their injuries, neither of the officers shot were from the Ferguson PD. The St. Louis Police Chief has called it an ambush but CNN is reporting that the shot came from over a football field length away. A 300′ shot from a pistol and hitting your intended target is almost impossible. The length of the barrel of the pistol makes them inaccurate at long distances. Even if the pistol was equipped with a special sight it would take an accomplished, expert shooter to make these shots.
I’m not ready to support an ambush as much maybe someone else was a target or it was someone who shot in the direction of the officers to stir up the crowd.

words have meanings an ambush is when a shooter is hidden and WAITING for the target he has lured to come into range……with officers standing there all night long somebody shooting at them from a distance is NOT an ambush, nobody lured them into the area.

Exactly, ambush is far from an accurate assessment. I wouldn’t put it past some right wing group nor even the FPD to pull a stunt like this to stir up sympathy for them and anger towards the demonstrators.

Remember, this is a decentralized space. The clergy called the protest vigil tonight. That’s how it works. Many organizers in the space.
It would be “easy” for protestors to simply stay home tonight. In August we decided that our commitment to justice doesn’t take a night off.
And no, I’m not afraid to protest tonight. This type of fear simply takes up too much of space. I remain focused on the fight for justice.
Blackness in America is never a question of afraid or unafraid; it’s a matter of varying degrees of fear, as we are victims of state terror.

I’m sure you’ve heard they arrested some shmuck for admitting he shot the cops in ferguson.
but I can’t stand to see that pig mc colluch on his stupid soap box talking about all the charges he’s facing. I wanna know why he didn’t have a lawyer & who’s repping him bcuz I’d like to see a zealous defense no matter what! the deck was stacked against him in that town & I believe him & just about everyone in that apartment complex who witnesses Mike’s murdered body lying there & subsequent police intimidation and violence on august 9th and onwards towards protesters, is probably suffering some type of trauma.
there’s one girl police shot w/a beanbag and who’s blind in one eye & another girl shot in the head and the police came and stole the bullet and “misplaced it” since!
none of those crimes have been addressed by police. in fact the girl who was shot in the head was still waiting & calling several days afterwards for the police to interview her!
I’m just grossed out & very suspicious about this guy who supposedly ‘admitted’ to shooting into the crowd. & want McColluch OUT OF THERE!! He needs to GTFOH!! He’s been a POS way before Mike’s murder & he’s now just a bigger POS who’s out & proud about it!

Looking at McCulloch gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. However, two people were shot and whomever did it needs to be arrested and brought to trial. What I find hypocritical is that McCulloch and the St. Louis Police Chief are thanking the public for helping them make the arrest. They are thanking them for the videos and audios. However, when it came to the killing of Michael Brown, what the public saw and provided by way of audio and video was not considered and Wilson’s story took precedence.
