“He Can’t Breath” – Casey Kressin Retained By Police On Way To The Hospital – Dies
He was only 3 miles from the emergency room when Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin police pulled over the car for speeding through a red light. The car was driven by Leah Hryniewicki, Casey Kressin’s girlfriend. Casey was having a severe asthma attack. It was November 30, 2014, the last day of the 29-year-old Casey’s life.
A reeling Casey exited the car and kneeled to the ground and asked for his inhaler as he wheezed away, police said. Police said that Leah also jumped out and yelled to the officer that the man was having an asthma attack and that he needed to get to the emergency room.
The officer would not allow Leah to put Casey in her car and finish the three miles, neither would he put Casey in his cruiser and take him to the hospital. The officer called for an ambulance, which arrived about six minutes later. Casey was unresponsive when the ambulance arrived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy Stelter says she stands by her officer, who followed protocol. Stelter said that Leah should not have been allowed to drive the rest of the way because she was hysterical, and Casey was not put in the squad car because the officer believed that it would have been more exertion than Casey could have handled.

What a heartbreaker.
One morning my husband came back to bed and said he didn’t like the way his arm and chest felt.
I said Let’s go!!!!
We left, I was calm, try to make every light. There wasn’t much traffic on Sunday. We got there in less than 20 minutes. I let him out and told them he was having chest pains.
They said by the EKG it didn’t show a heart attack.
I was sitting listening to the dr. and nurses still calm, but all of a sudden, my husband started sweating heavily and was going to throw up. It didn’t look like they were concerned, until then I was calm, BUT at least tell me they’re taking care of it.
I told the guy he’s sweating and sick, he didn’t respond. Later on he asked my husband if he felt better, he had given him that med. under his tongue.
His heart dr. saw something in his blood she didn’t like, told me the next morning he had had a heart attack and the put a stint in and he was fine.
She told me we got there in time.
Long story, but if we had waited for any reason instead of going straight to the ER, it would have been at least an hour. 40 minutes or more and it would have been too late.
If we had been stopped by cops hoping they would help, he probably wouldn’t be here.
I FEEL so bad for his girlfriend, she was doing the best she could and IF ( I know money doesn’t bring them back ) but I would sue the pants off of the police and the city.
After seeing this video, any citizen could relate. She was calm when she got out of the car.
Damn idiots, he can’t even sit up, much less breath. If he could he would have.

That’s what I was thinking. If I had a loved one so bad off I think I would have taken my chances and drove those few miles and dealt with the police after they were safe at hospital.

Ladylove, I agree that the girlfriend could have driven. She was hysterical because she knew Casey needed help. Once given confidence that he would get help, she probably would have calmed down. I think of situations like women in labor — hysterical and loud until they get help.

That officer, like so many, proceed with the bias of believing that all people lie. Did you get where he asked if Casey was drunk? Training can’t give common sense. Common sense says that if a person is hysterical because someone needs help, the way to stop the hysteria is to get help. He didn’t have to allow her to get back in the car, but he could have immediately radioed for an ambulance instead of asking questions first.

I was in a situation like that once. The cop allowed me to take my son to the hosp. He followed me with his sirens on. I can’t believe no one allowed her to take him nor the police. This is heartbreaking. How do the (cops) treat their own family members anyway? UGH!

My heart goes out to the families involved in this tragedy. There is no reason for this to have happened other than brutality and neglect for a fellow human being.
The very notion of “Protect and Serve” has vanished from law enforcement. They act as Judge, Jury and Executioner without fear of punishment. I watched a documentary recently from the UK about a tragedy at a football match in which people were killed. One of the former policemen interviewed stated that the job of the police was to PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM HARM, he acknowledged that they had failed in this, but the sentiment struck me. He said that only after that first responsibility were the police to apprehend criminals. The logic was that if there was a threat that the public would be protected by the initial police presence and that the officers arriving later would be able to handle the situation. Sad that our police have run amok, exercising brutality without fear of repercussions. Behavior like this is the sign of a corrupt system that is being protected, and not the sign of a system that is working to protect the people..

The police interviewed John Crawford’s girlfriend for over 90 minutes attempting to get her to say that Crawford brought the gun into WalMart so they could absolve themselves of responsibility and only after they complete the interview do they tell her that he’s dead.
John Crawford III walked into a Beavercreek, Ohio, Wal-Mart on Aug. 5. He was there with his girlfriend, Tasha Thomas, to get marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. The plan was to make s’mores for a family cookout.
Once at the store, he picked up an unboxed BB gun from the shelf and began walking the aisles.
Police, who were called to the scene, shot Crawford moments after they arrived. Now, a video has surfaced showing the police interrogation of Thomas, who was accused of lying, threatened with jail time and asked if she was high on drugs.
For over an hour, police questioned Thomas, 26, who had been taken directly from the shooting to the police station. During the interrogation, Thomas offered to take a lie detector test and eventually ended up swearing on the lives of her family that Crawford did not have a gun when he entered the store, according to The Guardian, which viewed the tape.
“You lie to me and you might be on your way to jail,” Detective Rodney Curd told Thomas on the recording as she cried. The 94-minute police video was released to The Guardian by “the office of Mike DeWine, the Ohio attorney general, in response to a public records request” made by the newspaper.
Here’s the clincher:
“As a result of his actions, he is gone,” Curd finally said to Thomas, almost an hour-and-a-half after the fatal shooting occurred. An already breathless Thomas slumped in her chair and cried, the Guardian reports.

They were still in the mode of Ritchie’s 911 call, that Crawford had a real gun and was intending on mass murder. This is why Ritchie should be prosecuted for the deaths of 2 people, his actions started this madness. They treated her like she was a criminal who had a part in it.

Racer, didn’t you know? Cops are now licensed physicians able to diagnose. There was a case years ago of a family on their way to the hospital because they received a call that their mom was dying and wanted to speak with them. They drove over the speed limit, the cops pursued but the family didn’t stop until they entered the parking lot of the ER. Without any questions, the cops demanded that they get on the ground. Not only did they not bother to confirm what the people were saying, they actually handcuffed them. If I remember the city where that happened, I might be able to find the story.

The ones we see in these videos proves most of them are nothing short of Nazi Storm Troopers. Not a lick of common sense or compassion among them. I know at least in NJ a cop can give an escort out of his jurisdiction using siren & lights in a medical emergency. My dad did such on several occasions when waiting for an ambulance could be the difference between life & death. One of them he took an accident victim in his patrol car about 5 miles to the closest hosp. He radioed to his station to call by land line to the ER what was going on. This was in the late 60’s and they needed to blood type the man asap.
That’s how the cops are supposed to “protect and to serve” not taser a 76 year old man moving a used car for his boss. or asking a man if he’s drunk when you can clearly tell he’s having a terrible time breathing…….then tell him “…it’s okay” It’s not okay dippy, he died, and the real world has a problem with it.

What an excellent articulation! It’s been a long time since I was in school, but even then I remember that during fire drills and emergencies, the teachers gave instructions calmly. They didn’t yell, “get in line get in line. Get in the hall get in the hall go now go now go go go.” Yet, I’ve seen so many videos of law enforcement yelling instructions and at times, to persons who were minding their own business. The average person does not respond quickly to verbal chaos. We are more inclined to ask “What did I hear?”

Thank you Xena! As an asthmatic myself, I find this deeply scary. When the desire for absolute control and addiction to protocol combine, the results are nearly always detrimental.
Because I live in America where poor people are disposable; I was unable to access the machine and medicine needed for my asthma as a child. At that time a simple nebulizer and compressor were $500. My Mom had been teaching me yoga for years when I was diagnosed with asthma, so I naturally thought of using yoga breathing techniques. I wish there were an easy way to teach these exercises to all asthmatics in every country-especially those like America where health care and medicine are privilege based. I know they saved my life many times.
Obviously we need a huge change in the way police officers are taught to deal with citizens if this case is considered to be doing a good job following the rules. Since even mandated change takes time to happen, I think a mass grass roots movement to share our own solutions while we push for change is also needed.
