Taking A Break – Open Discussion

Caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and all creatures great and small.

There’s so much that I would like to write about, and yet I have no time.  For now, I’m taking a break — a small break — maybe several days.  I’ll be around but just not writing posts.

Use this thread to discuss whatever is on your mind.

Don’t let the light go out!

Let it shine through our love and our tears!

Light one candle for the strength that we need.

Light one candle for those who are suffering.

Light one candle for all we believe in!

And light one candle to bind us together
With peace as the song in our heart!

We have come this far, always believing
    That justice will somehow prevail!

This is the burden. This is the promise.
This is why we *MUST* not fail !

Rep. Hank Johnson used his one minute in Congress to recite the following poem:

Published on Dec 4, 2014 on Youtube

Black men and boys killed by police.

    I can’t breathe.

Impunity for the killers – no justice, no peace.

    I can’t breathe.

Militarized police met peaceful protesters on their knees.

    I can’t breathe.

Weapons of war – a show of force on our streets.

    I can’t breathe.

Disenfranchised youth driven to violence as speech.

    I can’t breathe.

Cynical media think this makes great TV.

    I can’t breathe.

This cowardly Congress afraid of losing our seats.

    I can’t breathe.

Half-hearted reform when there’s more that we need.

    I can’t breathe.

Just thinking about the despair that this breeds.

    I can’t breathe.

Black lives matter. Hear my pleas.

    Excerpt:

Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-4th) says “I’m a black man and I see black males being the victims of extra judicial killings that go unaccounted for. There’s no accountability.” Representative Johnson says there seem to be two different systems of justice, “one for us and another for others and that’s just wrong and I can not remain silent at that.”

  13. I see Yoko Ono and John Lennon. If John Lennon were still alive today, I wonder what he’d say about what’s going on ….. war, police brutality, climate change.

    • Ren, if John Lennon were alive today and still writing songs like he did, he would probably be reduced to performing at summer festivals. We don’t have the music now that we had in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Some hip hop artists write and sing about war, abuse, etc., but I have a hard time listening to more than one of them at a time unless there is more signing than rapping.

I can only imagine that if Michael Jackson were alive, he would have produced three albums by now addressing America’s current problems. Listen to the music in the following and tell me if you hear John Lennon’s song. 🙂

I’ve only spent the past 2 days talking to families in Cleveland and the first thing they wanna say is “It’s as bad as Ferguson here.”

I had two Cleveland natives yesterday who called me and warned me that getting involved w/ racism in Cleveland is downright dangerous.

A Cleveland attorney called me last night and described the city as a “hornet’s nest of white supremacy” and a “powder keg”

I’m going to tell you something I experienced working with folk in Cleveland yesterday. First time I’ve ever had this happen…Every day I get white folk who write me to give me tips and stories. More than half the time they ask me not to say it came from them…

Yesterday was the first day I’ve ever had so many African Americans (all from Cleveland) say “please don’t say my name.” Folk are afraid.

You need to study the DOJ report that Eric Holder just released on the Cleveland PD. Google it. Then, guess what…Just 10 years ago the DOJ had to intervene with the Cleveland PD. Clearly didn’t work. Having to do it again now. Deep systems of power.

My heart goes out to Cleveland, it reminds me of a Midwest town in Oklahoma. Blacks were afraid to let whites know they had any assets, for fear they’ll fire or have them fired from their job.

Deep systemic racism. Beaver Creek/ John Crawford non-indictment w/a video.

That happens in Chicago. Most people have two cars — the beater that they drive to work and the newer car for other things because they are concerned that if some bigoted manager or co-worker thinks they are getting ahead of them financially, they will lose their job.

        • that’s so outrageous, I’ve never heard of that kinda stuff!! I didn’t even understand what Peni4yothot meant by ppl not letting ppl know about their assets.
that’s so disgusting someone has to be concerned about what BIGOTED LOSERS think!! I hate this shit! I swear this time, this non-indictment really got to me. I feel like we’re always losing this fight. losing hope. feeling defeated. i’m tired and traumatized I think. I’m still waiting for my (our) Trayvon’s justice. i’m sick of the police abusing ppl and I’m sick of Holder repeating the ‘we’re opening up a federal investigation’ announcement OVER AND OVER AGAIN after every state failure and not getting any results!! where’s the state’s responsibilities and why aren’t they being punished for the obvious corruption?? why are media allowed to bullshit the public with these biased bigoted ‘reports’? and why are these politicians being re-elected even tho they’re not doing what the majority of the ppl want?? why are they allowed to act like dictators and disrespecting americans??

sorry but I don’t think i’m the only one with these feelings lately. I think a lot of ppl are feeling the same way. in fact I bet a lot of us here are getting sick and tired of this stuff.smhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The same applies to wardrobe and buying a house in a better area.

and why are these politicians being re-elected even tho they’re not doing what the majority of the ppl want??

Because the good-guys don’t run for office. If they do and were ticketed for speeding when they were 17, the swift boat crowd will paint them as a lawbreaker. A family member is subject to being arrested during the campaign; mortgage payments are lost in the mail; and their neighbors and former co-workers are interrogated by the media of what the candidate is like going back to his/her great-great grandparents.
