Frank Taaffe Testified Before Federal Grand Jury

It happened today around noon EST.  Before entering the courthouse, Frank Taaffe spoke with reporters.

Frank Taaffe is a former vocal supporter of George Zimmerman, who felt no shame using racial slurs and denigrating the Black race.  Today, he appeared before the federal grand jury.

The FBI began investigating George Zimmerman in or about April 2012.  To the State of Florida, they released interviews of individuals, some of whom testified of Zimmerman’s racial animus and others who did not.   Because of that George Zimmerman’s supporters assumed that the FBI closed its investigation.  However, pre-trial, Zimmerman’s defense attorney, Mark O’Mara, attempted to get the FBI’s file on Zimmerman and was told in open court that the investigation was ongoing.

In September 2013, I posted an article on how the Department of Justice prosecutes hate crimes, supported by the statements and experience of Benjamin B. Wagner, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California.

U.S. Attorney Wagner wrote;

“Because establishing motive is a key aspect to proving the crime, investigations often must range far beyond the criminal act itself to locate evidence relevant to the defendant’s state of mind before and during the crime.”

It has always been my impression that the FBI investigated for this evidence and finding same, have taken before a federal grand jury.

Today, the Orlando Sentinel reports;

“Before entering the courthouse, Taaffe spoke to reporters, offering a complete about-face from his original stance on the case. Asked why his views had changed, Taaffe’s reply was blunt: “Death.” Taaffe explained both of his sons died recently, leading him to reflect on the loss felt by Trayvon’s parents. “This is a young man who didn’t deserve to die,” Taaffe said.”

trayvon-martin111The Orlando Sentinel reached George Zimmerman, but he would not comment on Taaffe’s statements.

Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represents Trayvon Martin’s family, stated that the family always believed that Zimmerman profiled Trayvon.

“This is what we said before Frank Taaffe’s testimony to the grand jury, this is what we said all along, and we’re grateful that the grand jury will get to hear it,” Crump said.

“If there’s a young man that’s not doing anything but talking on the phone, in the rain, sauntering about, let it go. You know, that’s why we have law enforcement…. let them handle it,” Taffee said.

Taaffe also told reporters that he anticipated being questioned about a phone call he received days before Zimmerman’s arrest from someone who claimed to be Zimmerman and made a “racial comment” about the case. Taaffe stated that the call came from an unknown number, so he couldn’t be 100 percent sure it was Zimmerman.

Taaffe also told reporters that FBI agents asked him about comments he made while Zimmerman’s jury was deliberating. Taaffe claimed to have been tipped off about the jury’s discussions, which are supposed to be secret. He did not tell reporters how he received the tip.

    Well done, Francis. I knew someone in this case had a conscience – sometimes it’s the person you least expect to have one.

  6. I am not willing to give Frank Taaffe a Pass. What he did was outrageous. Caused a lot of people to distrust our judicial system. Not just him, Angela Corey. Well I’ll stop there. Something in that court room stank to high heaven. Taaffe knew exactly what he was doing all along. I guess he was enjoying his many hours of fame on the nightly runs to Nancy Grace show. Like, slept in his cloths with phone in hand. UGH!!! He should have been thinking about how it feels to every parent that has lost a child (in anyway) every night. Not just after the walk from the courthouse of NOT GUILTY! To me anyone dying in an auto accident (my mother did) isn’t as horrific as a YOUNG CHILD being stalked and chased after in the dark for the color of their skin. Death happens. We are all going to die sometime. This isn’t how death should happen.

    • Me too Shyloh, Not willing to give him a pass. The words he spoke against Trayvon and his family, about the Black community as a whole, can never be taken back, can never be ‘unheard’ and he did irreparable damage that can never be undone.

    • @Shyloh: I definitely DO NOT give Frank Taaffe a pass either! I have been saying how I do not trust Frank Taaffe since this this column revealed the information a long time ago, that Frank Taaffe had had experienced a conscious since the death of his sons and his brothers. FT had turned against Fogen and was now going to tesify against him! I said from the very beginning that this man has a motive other than the death of his sons and his brother! He made some very ugly, comments about TM, his family and black people in general. Ugly, hateful and hurtful things that he spewed on national television! He has yet to apologize for the ugly despicable things that he said when the investigation in the TM case was taking place. He sided with Fogen, and lied for Fogen and covered up for Fogen. He may have a conscience now, but I for one will never forget the mean, ugly, hurtful, racist, bigoted words that he used against TM and his family!

      • Deborah. Maybe he’s sitting back waiting to get someone to publish a book. After all, he’s broke. He has a motive. What, I don’t know. But it will come out. Maybe his FRIEND George never paid him to tell lies for him so he’s really *&^^%$ off. In my Opinion it’s not because he has a conscience. He’s up to something. Maybe wants more interviews on the nightly talking head shows for his “come to Jesus moment” Then he can spew about his upcoming book. (Named, the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the LIES) Just saying!

      Yeah. I suspect he’d make a pretty crappy witness for the prosecution (or for whichever side he happens to feel like supporting in the (unlikely) event that zimmerthug faces any federal chargers..

    Is anyone willing to say with 100% certainty that what FT said in front of the grand jury under oath, is the same as he is saying in public? Sorry guys, but with this mans history in mind, I simply don’t believe a word he says…

    • IMHO, Frank came out supporting Zimmerman for the sake of fame. He discovered that only a small number of people were entertained by his rudeness and racial bigotry. His financial endeavors were unsuccessful. He lost his house to foreclosure. Who was there to help him? No one. Then his brother died and he had a come to Jesus moment.

      It’s never been my impression that the feds needed anything from Taaffe in order to proceed before the grand jury. The interesting part is wondering what Zimmerman is thinking.

        I don’t think they are interested of his opinion of what he thinks of Zimmerman, but wanted information on who told him about the jury vote. Not unless there is information that we don’t know about other than his opinion or belief. They didn’t bring a grand jury in based on his “come to Jesus moment”, they must have some good stuff, otherwise they would have just closed the investigation.

        I think the article I posted gave me a clear understanding of why the HOA settled before the case went to trial. Funny how the Zim Fans want to believe if it can’t be proved George was a racist, then case closed.

          Let me add to the above……The thought is, if this goes to trial because Frank flip flopped, then George needs to sue for big bucks. I guess he’ll have to sue God, cause it was his plan.

          Zimmerman represented himself as Neighborhood Watch but only after he was taken to the station and questioned. He put that in his written statement. That placed responsibility on the HOA. He carried a gun. That is against the rules. He followed. That is against the rules. And, to make matters worst, he was not a homeowner in that community but a renter. As long as Zimmerman “perceived” Trayvon in any manner justifying why Trayvon should not be out walking in the rain, that is profiling. He even thought for Trayvon.

          • GZ own words were Trayvon was victimizing that neighborhood just by walking in the rain. I’m about to explain it. In his 911 call he said these a-holes they always get away. When Serino played that call he asked GZ about that statement and GZ stated for the people who VICTIMIZED our neighborhood. What was Trayvon doing up to the point when GZ made the statement? He was walking in the rain. GZ had a problem with Trayvon walking through there and mind u that this fool turned and did the exact same thing

          • Wayne,
            No doubt about it. Zimmerman judged Trayvon, and decided that he was not going to let him “get away.” I truly hope that the federal grand jury returns a Bill to indict.

      I couldn’t say it with even 50% or 25% or 10% certainty. FT is damaged goods, in the credibility department, IMO.

    • Shannon, thanks for embedding the video. The thing about the phone call is, no matter what came up or didn’t come up on his cell phone, the feds should be able to track the call.

  10. listen these are facts they had RACHEL JEANTEL’S phone call records she was talking to trayvon as things were happening right so she couldn’t make things up. She said Trayvon was right near his fathers house he turned around and asked the person that was following him why r u following me for. That person said what r u doing around here heard by RJ and JENNER LAUER BUT JL LIED ON THE STAND. SHE TOLD OMARA SHE DIDNT HEAR ANYTHING BUT SHE HAD TOLD SERINO AND SINGELTON SHE HEARD IT. IF SHE DIDNT SHE WOULDNT HAVE TOLD THEM THAT. NOW FT SAID IF TRAYVON WOULD HAVE ANSWERED THAT QUESTION NOTHING WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. WELL HOW COULD HE SAY THAT BEFORE THE TRIAL? NOBODY HAD CAME OUT AND SAID THAT BEFORE THE TRIAL SO FOR THE PEOPLE THAT SAYING IT WAS GZ ASKING TRAYVON THAT. GUESS WHAT IT WAS NEAR HIS FATHERS HOUSE NOT AT THE T. NOTHING EVER HAPPEN AT THE T AND IF IT WAS FT WHICH IT WAS SO ALL GZ SUPPORTERS YOUR SAYING TRAYVON RAN AROUND FT AND WENT TO THE T AND ASSAULTED GZ. GET REA LAND PLUS GZ NEVER SAID HE ASKED TRAYVON THAT. SO IF NOTHING HAPPENED AT THE T WHY WAS TRAYVON SHOT NOT BECUZ OF A FIGHT AND WHILE THE DOJ IS AT IT ASK MARK OSTERMAN WHO WAS THE LADY THAT STARTED CRYING AND MOVED GZ TRUCK BEFORE THEY COULD SECURE. HE SAID IT WAS SHELLIE BUT SHELLIE SAID SHE WASNT THERE SO WHO WAS IT AND HOW DID THE KEY GET BACK TO THE T IF SHE MOVED IT BEFORE THEY COULD SECURE IT? MANY MORE LIES I COULD PROVE HOPEFULLY THEY WILL FIND HIM GUILTY THIS TIME IN A REAL COURT ROOM
