I was walking past a mental hospital the other day, and all the patients were shouting. “13…13…13.”
Well, the fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little hole in the planks, so I decided to look through it and see what was going on.
Suddenly, some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick, then they all started shouting, “14…14…14.”

According to his family, the NYPD and city government, Police Officer Robert Ehmer personified every trait that makes someone a hero.
His sister, Annette Ehmer, in between bursts of tears, said her brother was humble and courageous.
Deputy Inspector Ron Leyson, the 110th Precinct’s commanding officer, said he was a reliable and knowledgeable officer.
City Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras (D-East Elmhurst) said he was honorable and brave.
On Sept. 11, 2001, Ehmer, a 19-year veteran of the 110th Precinct and an EMT with St. John’s Hospital for 13 years, showcased all those traits by running into the burning north and south towers of the World Trade Center in an effort to save strangers.
Unlike the thousands of New Yorkers who died that day, Ehmer survived unscathed.
But in 2007, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, believed to have been caused by the four months he spent working in the toxic haze hovering over Ground Zero.
While the disease killed him at the age of 47 in 2010, his memory will live on at the corner of 95th Street and 43rd Avenue outside the 110th Precinct in Corona, which was renamed Robert M. Ehmer Place on Friday in a ceremony attended by family members, NYPD officials and dozens of officers.
Annette Ehmer, fighting back tears, said her family will forever be grateful for the honor bestowed upon her brother.

Officer Jason Gates pulled over a vehicle due to a driving violation at a red light. When Gates approached the vehicle, he pulled the woman out of her van and gave her three abdominal thrusts that dislodged food from the woman’s throat.

I am so moved by this video…it brought tears to my eyes and gratitude knowing also that there are so many officers in our country that have helped, protected or rescued those that they serve.

Just unpacked groceries. I have to ask: have any of you noticed how the width of TP rolls is decreasing in size?? I am beginning to wonder if someday it will be the width of adding machine tape. 🙂
