Open Discussion
Thursday evening, I posted in comments that I’m overworked, tired of bad news and would like to write something uplifting. I asked for suggestions.
Kindheart101 replied:
How about an open comment board to post on for 10/17. “A Happy Place”
Everyone has to post a cute video, something funny, a childhood memory, a special birthday gift, Christmas gift……………anything other than turmoil and grief!
A happy, funny, video filled area to raise our spirits and make us smile.
Find it on Utube……….dig it up from your past………..or make it up!
There is so much to choose from, and so many stories to be shared. 🙂
Just a suggestion.
She started off by sharing a funny story about her hair.
I don’t have a funny story to tell, but would like to share the following video.
Yesterday, our spirits were lifted with the sentencing of Michael Dunn. My spirit was also lifted upon hearing that the person in D.C. does not have Ebola. Still, I have something to complete that is time sensitive and I need to dedicate this weekend to finishing.
While good things are the focus, feel free to discuss anything. Have a safe weekend.

Then don’t ever get a cat Lolypop! LOL
My cats sleep with me every night, and are quite happy to snuggle up and take a nap in the afternoon also. But……….No matter what time I go to bed, once the sun comes up, they demand to look out the window! I go through at least 4 sets of blinds a year.
I have put large padded ledges on every single window for them to lay and look out of. I keep the blinds open and available for them to lay comfortably, at any hour of the day, and watch the birds, etc., outside. Yet if the sun rises, and I’m still sleeping, they climb the walls to see out the bedroom window.
Ha! I thought, I’ll stop this! So I removed the bedroom window ledge, hoping it would force them to walk (all of 10 feet away from me,) and pier out a different window.
Nope! They bounce on the bed, dig at the covers, meow..meow……meowwwwwww, then they start jumping in the air swinging from the blinds. I was afraid thy would get caught and choke, so I put the ledge back up and leave the blinds raised a few inches, and now it’s a game to see how many slats they can break to peek out from.
I even tried sleeping in the living room, on the couch, if laid down late. That was a disaster! They fought non stop over the rights to lay on the couch with me. (While the other 2 tore up the living room blinds)
Yup, I buy blinds in bulk, but I still love them. 🙂

We’ve had cats forever but the last two died also.
I know another sad story here on Happy, but the happy is that they gave us so many laughs and love, it’s a positive and very sweet memories.
They slept with us too. You didn’t dare open an eyelid, they would hear it.
I loved it when they were already awake and every time you moved your feet they would attack them.
The last 2 were brothers, Jeffrey and Jesse! : )

Lolypop,
Not sad at all. What you expressed was nothing short of love, affection and beautiful memories your beloved animal family gave you.
We, who truly love animals, connect in a special way.
Bless you Lolypop, for the love you showed to them, and the love they readily returned.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal passes that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

When my dog of 11 1/2 yrs died, I had her cremated. When the vet called and I picked up her urn, they had “Rainbow Bridge” imprinted, in gold. The poem was in the paperwork, and I balled so badly I could not drive.
I said then that I would never have another dog — their life spans are short and it hurts so bad when losing them. Then I thought hey — since their life spans are short, then they deserve to live happy, well cared for lives full of love. So, there I was again in the adoption center. 🙂

The love they leave behind with us, that fills our heart and soul, leaves only a small opening for another beloved friend to enter. Never to replace them, but to expand our heart in size, and the volume of love, that only they can give us.

Kindheart,
That is beautiful, and it might also explain why I was thinking about getting a second dog. See, I told my son that the dog likes to play, play, play, and she thinks that I’m her playmate. She thinks nothing of bringing her tug-o-war toy to me, or her ball, no matter what I’m doing. So we should get another dog for her to play with, right? Know what my son told me? He said then both dogs will think I’m their playmate. LOL!

Besides how can you not talk about your pets and smile or laugh about the things that they do.
You sould have named your’s the challenger.
It does remind me of my friend that was telling me about how her cat and how it took off like a challenger and I still can see that. : )
I love that poem.
That couldn’t be more perfect and a perfect name Rainbow Bridge.
I read the sweetest story there one day about a man coming home from work and taking this little bitty kitten home with him.

I love video’s………I love funny……….I love cute! If you’re feeling down, a smile can mean so much.
Here’s a laugh I had today:
A dear friend of mine called me and asked if I could sit with her Mom because she had shopping to do, and her Mother just didn’t feel up to going with her.
I have known them for 40 years, her Mother is 91, born in 1923, and probably has more energy than I do most of the time. LOL
As we sat and chatted, I listened intently to her days of the 30’s and 40’s. I felt the struggles of the depression, and drew so much from her wisdom. We laughed about technology today, and the wars of the past, and present……
Now, let me give you the setting, OK? Then, she told me of several different medications the doctors had prescribed for her, to help with the digestion of food, (Which is typical) as she pulled a tissue out of the box on her bed table. Then, she tipped a small brown bottle on the tissue, and handed it to me?
I looked at her? I said, what’s this?
She said: “Darlin, you better put that to your nose right now, cause the medication they give me is about to kick in.”
It was Peppermint extract, because she was about to pass gas! I tried so hard not to burst out laughing, but we both did anyhow!
I live in the south now, and have for many years. (Though I was raised in the north) To say “Southern Ladies” are proper, to me, at times is an understatement.
All I could think of was GONE WITH THE WIND!
I can’t wait to read these posts, and watch the video’s. 🙂

I live in the south but was raised in the north, too. But I’ve lived in the south quite long enough to understand “Old South” southern women. “Graciousness” (within context) is an understatement for them, to be sure. Her giving you the peppermint extract in advance: What a CLASSIC HOOT!

Oh Peni, I must have done something really bad in my life, somewhere, sometime.
Just when I thought O’Mara….O’Haha (as Joseph called him), or O’Money (as Racer called him), would fade into “Never Never Land,” taking his horse teeth with him………..he returned in all his SUCKING GLORY after the Trayvon Martin trial.
I was watching CNN one night, and poof…….there he was! They had a new so called attorney on their panel. It was an attorney with sunken cheeks, and bigger than ever teeth that made me drool just trying to watch him keep them in his mouth.
O’Mara was haunting me, taunting me with his smile! I was once again tempted to take bets on whether he could keep his over sized dentures in his mouth, or would he spit them across the room during the next interview????? To bet, or not to bet?
Tissues…….I have to put tissues by the TV. How often will he startle me, popping up on my news channels, sucking in his lips, and rearranging his dentures before even being able to say a word? And even then, (being a math major) I’m at awe how this man can talk at all, considering the ratio in size of teeth to mouth surface. My only explanation is his dentist must have been a student, or very far sighted when making those choppers!
And he sucks on them, constantly. It makes me salivate, uncontrollably. I find myself sitting, rocking back and forth, waiting for that huge upper denture to hit the screen at any minute. Then, as he rocks that skinny little chin from side to side, supported only by those very thin, sunken cheeks. I fear the weight of those teeth will sever the whole lower part of his face…………………………………………………

Heartwarming Touchdown For High School Football Team
8-year-old Gabe White is a “manager” for Rhinelander High School’s freshman football team in Wisconsin. He’s also the team’s biggest fan. Moments after time expired during the team’s last game of the season on Oct. 16, Gabe was called off the sidelines and onto the field. All of the sudden, everyone was cheering for him.
Gabe, who has Down syndrome, is the younger brother of the team’s #84, Owen White. Rival high school Mosinee had already won the game by the time Gabe took the field, but that didn’t stop him from giving it his all when he was asked to score a “winning” touchdown for the Rhinelander Hodags.
As he ran for the end zone, football in hand, Mosinee players did their part by diving to tackle him, missing him only by inches. Through it all, his big brother was right behind him.
When he made it to the end zone, the Hodags celebrated by lifting him onto their shoulders, to cheers from the audience.
“When they went to go lift him up at the end, that was the minute. That was the big minute for us and even some of our coaches were tearing up and that’s a weird thing because I haven’t seen that side of them,” coach Mark Apfel told NBC 12.
Apfel and Gabe’s family said they wanted to “do something special” for him because of the incredible influence he’s been on the team this season.
“[When] we’re losing and it’s kind of a rough game, he’ll go up to a player, give him a hug, just changes your mood,” Owen told ABC 9.
Go Gabe!

I had a cousin far older than me, (now deceased) that was deaf from birth. She never married, but was very self sufficient, and lived on her own most of her life.
Her whole house was triggered by lights. The door bell, when doors or windows were opened, and even the phone. She had a “Teleprinter” on her phone that allowed her to read every phone call, and respond by typing her response. (It was all done by the local phone service at the time) and took forever!
I had never thought about texting in this way! My cousin would have been blown away if she could have had a mobile phone, set to vibrate, and be able to text and talk instantly.
Again, yet another thumbs up for technology. 🙂

It’s great seeing everyone and sharing a time of “happy” with everyone. Kindheart, thanks so much for your suggestion. Should we do this again at least once a month? More?

That is totally your call my friend, but I do have to say the imagination and feelings shown here have made me smile.
I tend to take everything to heart, and I have really enjoyed seeing what others posted, and watching all of the video’s.

Although I wasn’t able to participate much or keep up with comments, what I did read and watch blessed my socks off.
As soon as time allows, I’m going to add a “Happy Day” tab on the top menu so this thread will be easy to find. In a moment, I’m going to add that as a category so it can be found using the “Search categories” on the right-side border.
All warriors need some R&R. You knew exactly what we needed, and words cannot express my appreciation.

“Love Peace and Wisdom”
Lyrics by Bliss
If Love were a bird, I would stroke her bright feathers
Then I’d watch her fly free, cross the still of the dawn
And if Peace were a mountain, we’d gather around her
To bathe in her silence, her power, her call
If Wisdom could sing or whisper his secrets
Eternity teaching the ways of the free
In my mind I can see them, I hear them and I feel them
For Love, Peace and Wisdom are all part of me
If Love has her freedom, and Peace her expression,
Surely Wisdom will grow like a flower in bloom
The seed has been planted, and tended and watered
By the prayers of the hopeful and the tears of the brave
We long to return to that place of still waters
And sit on the banks under some shady tree
In my mind I can see it, I hear it and I feel it
And Love, Peace and Wisdom are all that we need
Some call me a dreamer, some will call me a seeker
One who follows her stars on a quest for the truth
But every believer holds a deep hidden memory
Of a time when the earth was a flower in bloom
We long to return to that place of still waters
And sit on the banks under some shady tree
In my mind I can see it, I hear it and I believe it
And Love, Peace and Wisdom are the three golden keys

To add on to the discussion of pets above, our dachshund has been my happy spot in a world full of bad news. He was abused and malnourished before we got him from a rescue, and he’s so happy to be with us that it automatically makes me happy. No matter what else is going on, he always greets me with a big smile on his face 🙂

Thanks for this great link, Mindy. 🙂
I really had some good laughs!
Dog asks, “How long will you be gone?”
“Why can’t dogs name their humans?”
“How long will I have to wear this cone?”
And, then, human saying, “I’ll just buy a new lamp”
“Put it back.”

Yes.
Did you stroke him?
A little
Don’t bother coming home!
Why can’t we name our owners?
I am rolling!
Thank you for a wonderful laugh. 🙂

According to Time Magazine, in 2006:
Matt McAllister gained 100 lb. in four hours when he donned 155 T-shirts to set the Guinness World Record for the most number of T-shirts worn at one time. The Phoenix-based radio host wore shirts sizes small through 10XL, ending appropriately with a “Big Dog” shirt.

OMG, LOLOLOL That is tooooo funny kindheart.
Actually sounds just like me and the rest of us who play around here. lol
It’s supposed to be relaxing and I just can’t stand it if I don’t get my bonus on top.
I’ve needed one specific number, not 4 or 5 and after 3 rolls, I’m like oh well I didn’t get my bonus. lololol
That is a perfect explaination, can’t wait to show
my family.
That’s why I was almost in shock last night after getting my bonus plus 5 yahtzees.
I hate to take chance on the first roll. lololol
That’s usually me!!!!!! : )

What really stinks is when you have to take a little tiny chance.
I have a REALLY hard time when I have three 5’s or 6’s, then on the last roll I get two other high matching numbers. It kills me to take that as a full house. LOL
So dummy me always tries to get a full house in 1’s and 2’s…..and of course, most of the time it doesn’t work out, so I wind up taking a total of 8 or 9 in chance.
My Mother and I would play Yahtzee for hours when I would go home to visit. My poor Father would ultimately holler from the bedroom “ENOUGH WITH THE DICE ALREADY!” (So I bought a rubber mat to play on after my Father went to bed) 🙂

Yes, I think we just finished about 4 games, half I didn’t get my bonus and yes only needed two 5’s. Here’s Loly, 5555555555 not after 3 rolls did ONE five come up. Plus that was my roll. lol
I think the dice are messin with us. lol
And if you want to see a large straight, scratch it and you’re next roll, you get it and so excited, but forgot you had JUST scratched it. lol
Same with any of them. It’s crazy but it keeps us from going insane. lololol
Funny about your Dad. lol
