Vent Away – Open Discussion

Caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and all creatures great and small,

After watching the Michael Brown funeral, I’m in a solemn yet angry mood.  I’m angry because of ignorant people who think it’s a fun thing to do to disrespect the dead because of their race.  I’m angry that those doing so also claim being of a superior race, and I’m angry that their hypocrisy prevents them from knowing that death does not discriminate.

I’m angry that some people think that cops are gods, rather than men and women who voluntarily chose to be cops along with all of the frailties of mankind.

Okay — I’ll just say it — to Darren Wilson supporters, let him patrol in your neighborhood.   Do we see how that worked for George Zimmerman?  His own friend doesn’t want him patrolling the back of his store.  The so-called supporters say one thing but act another.

“Oh yeah. Let’s support the trigger happy guys who killed unarmed Black teens, but we don’t want let them loose in our neighborhoods with those guns.”

I’m saddened.  I’m saddened that there are hundreds of thousands of young people, White, Black, Brown, Yellow and Red, who have done everything they were told would make them successful to obtain the American dream, to find that they can be stopped in their tracks if just one person discovers that they smoked a joint, or used profanity at a cop, or listened to that music.  And, I remember a time when guys with long hair were beaten by cops and some people thought that they deserved it because they were hippies.

Where do we go from here?

What’s on your mind?

I am listening to “What’s Going On”…..I’ll probably replay it for awhile before I can even begin to comment…I also am experiencing the feelings you have expressed.

Xena, I expect no less from evil and those who open their hearts to evil. However, we do have the trump card for that, don’t we?

I’ve changed Simon and Garfunkel’s lyrics to make a statement.

Some men get tied up to the ground of evil
They give the world it’s saddest sound
      Its saddest sound

I do know that we cannot be silent.
I do know that our love and caring hearts can nourish other hearts.
I do know that people uniting in love and compassion can change the world.

We just must never be silent.

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more.
    People talking without speaking,
    People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
    And no one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence.

“Fools,” said I, “You do not know –
    Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence.

In the above video Art Garfunkel introduces “The Sounds of Silence” by saying

This is a song about the inability of people to communicate with each other.
And, not particularly internationally, but especially emotionally.
So that what you see around you is people who are unable to love each other.
This is called “The Sounds of Silence.”

Xena, have a look at this site, please. To me it represents a new activism and a way forward with things people can do:

    http://www.handsupunited.org

    OUR VISION

We are striving for a world where we deal with harm in our communities through healing, love, and kinship.

This means an end to state sponsored violence, including the excessive use of force by law enforcement. We are committed to an America that comes to terms with the trauma of its painful history and finds true reconciliation for it. Mass incarceration and the criminalization of black and brown people must forever end, leaving in its place a culture that embraces our histories and stories. This means an end to racial bias and white supremacy in all its forms.

Our dreams are directly linked with those resisting militarism, war, and state repression around the world. We will achieve this new beloved community hand in hand, step by step, in global solidarity with all people committed to lasting peace and full justice.

It breaks my heart knowing the sad truth that Blacks are unfairly stereotyped by the police.
It is so heinously unfair and so upsetting to me. I can’t begin to understand the stress and the pressure that Blacks, especially, are under because THEY (and not Whites) are the ones targeted and negatively profiled most of the time by the police.

A tweeter spoke to this today in terms of survival:

    Frank Puddle @francisadujr

One of the biggest irks I get from respectability politics is the notion that black people gotta live lives of sainthood in order to not die.

Let’s hope that this time, Corey and Guy do a better job convincing the jury that when a person kills another and leaves the scene and doesn’t contact law enforcement, it’s an unsolved murder and not self-defense. Let’s also hope that they make it clear to the jury that Dunn says Jordan was retreating into the vehicle when he (Dunn) began firing. Dunn was never in any danger of death or great bodily harm. Additionally, there’s a third point; i.e., Dunn cannot blame the cops for not finding a shotgun or a stick that he only told them about after he was taken into custody and questioned.

What I want to see at trial is a person of Jordan’s height in the two positions claimed by both sides with the sticks through the door of the SUV, showing where he was shot. We should then see whether he was getting back into the vehicle, or was already in the vehicle. Then Guy needs to argue that either or, it meant that Jordan was retreating and Dunn was under no threat.

Since they have charged Dunn with 1st degree murder, they need to communicate about him like he’s a murderer and stop trying to sound like they’re giving seminars to the jury.

From his police interview, it was clear that because he said that he was verbally threatened with death, that he thought he would not be arrested. All of his defenses might have been given some measure of credibility had he not left the scene and not called the police. He’s Done/Dunn. Now, awaiting sentencing on the 2nd degree attempted murder charges, he might as well make himself satisfied with being behind bars for a long time.

Right — Dunn and Wafer have three hots, a cot, and a squat in a small space. I only wish that Zimmerman was also in that condition.

Xena, I’m right there with you and, it just don’t make any sense, for some white people to act like this. I saw something, that really touched my heart. Students from Russia , paid their respects to Mike, while some of his own country men/women, have done nothing but dissed him in death. It’s not like the same thing can’t happen to their Loved one.

It’s just sickening, to read some of their comments, so I don’t. There were quake trimmers in a part of Cali today and, two american flags, were replaced by, two that had been bleached out, on the Brooklyn Bridge. That very same bridge, has been breached yet again and nobody knows, whose doing this. These people would do good, to humble themselves to God, instead of mocking a deceased kid. Their evilness will not, be tolerated much longer by God Almighty. How soon, they forgot 9/11.

They bring reproach to the millions of Whites who are not of the same mindset, and that is actually what the bigoted want to do. They want a racial divide. They want a race war. Some cops are helping them.

Their evilness will not, be tolerated much longer by God Almighty.

I was thinking earlier today about the spirit that formed this country, and wondering if that spirit is going to always haunt this country. Today in the comments on the live stream of Mike’s funeral, some dimwit said that if it wasn’t for slavery, Blacks would still be in Africa. I thought, if it wasn’t for Europeans, Native Americans would still have their culture, tribes, land, and lives. How is it right to slaughter the natives of a land, then enslave a people from another continent to work stolen land for the profit of Europeans who then waged war so they would not be taxed by yet another land that claimed ownership of the colonies?

Then too, I thought if Africa was so bad, why did Europeans go there for the people and the diamonds, and also create “South Africa”? People were not kidnapped from Africa as a rescue mission to save them from that land nor themselves. When is this hypocrisy going to end?

If it’s true that some of the bullets found their way into apartments, Wilson should be arrested for placing citizens in danger.

That is exactly, exactly what I have been thinking all week, Xena. Bystanders could have been killed by those stray bullets. People in that apartment could have been killed if the bullets had penetrated deeper into and through the wall of that apartment.

        • It sounds like the last volley consisted of 4 shots. Michael was shot 6 times, so 2 of the bullets had to have hit him from the back.

Darren Wilson should be immediately arrested for endangering others because some of his shoots went into the homes of others. Let him make bail or sit in jail until the murder investigation is completed.

          • The second autopsy report does not support that, they said only one shot could’ve come from behind–the one on the forearm. He would’ve had to have spun around rather quickly in order to have been hit from the front. We need to see the angles of the shots to see if one could’ve have occurred as he was turning around.

            Like

          • Towerflower, I need to watch the video again by think that it was also said that the scrape on Mike’s hand could have come from the back or the front.

I see the turning around as one fluid action that explains why all the shots were on Mike’s right side with the exception of the last one to the top of his head, which was probably done after he was on the ground.

            Like

          • The glancing shot was to the upper arm, the hand shot was a clear bullet wound. I would still like to see what the trajectory is on the shots, but you have a point that they are all to the right side of the body.

            Like

          • The trajectory is pertinent, as well as any GSR on Mike’s clothing since it is said that he was shot once from the cop’s vehicle. Yeah — I can visualize Mike turning around in a fluid motion where only the right side of his body was facing forward with the last shot being “center mass” to his head.

When he wouldn’t put the gun down they opened fire and ended up hitting one of their own and killed a young woman in a nightclub when one of the shots went through the door of the club and hit the woman.

The man’s gun was stolen and empty–but the cops didn’t know that. He was pissed about getting thrown out of the club due to his intoxicated state and came back with the gun and demanded to be let back in. He was shot multiple times but survived and is now facing 1st degree murder for the death of the young woman killed by police fire.

Here is the link to the Ferguson poetry page without the http:

    • that’s but a snippet of police terrorizing the ppl they’re supposed to be serving. I can’t get over how long the police were allowed to literally aim their assault weapons on peaceful men women & children, in plain view of the whole world! sitting on top of tanks w weapons trained directly into the crowds. military looking police lined up with their guns…

I just can’t believe it. I really hope the ACLU etc. private attnys who ever are down there filing suit on behalf of every single person brutalized, intimidated & attacked by the Ferguson police dept. mayor, governor -everyone who was in charge and thought they could just do whatever they wanted!
there should be a GIANT LAWSUIT as well as criminal charges filed against all of those assholes!

        • yes, as if they’re in a war zone. here’s a video I saw today that represents what the ppl of Ferguson are really doing & why they’re doing it now. I’m trying to get it circulating on twitter but it’s not going so well. likely because it’s a little long and not sensationalized, just an accurate look at the issues of this city & regular ppl describing them.

          Shannon,

I am going to watch it now.

I was referring to the fact that the “police” pointing the gun at the lady and those around him were in jeans and a t-shirt. I was just wondering what LE group they were with, dressed that way.

Does anyone know of a picture which shows ALL of the orange pylons which police set out from the SUV to Mike’s body in the street?

Why are some of the police officers at the scene wearing blue shirts and some tan?

    Thanks.

  26. I recently spoke to a relative who is a cop and I had some questions about policy. Mainly dealing with officer’s statements and the released report that didn’t contain any statements.

First each department will have different policies, but with an officer involved shooting the person who questions/investigates the officer will typically write out a statement and not the officer.

Also in serious situations, like a shooting, they may even delay the questioning for a couple of days……why? Because there have been several studies that prove the memory of an event improve over at least 2 sleep cycles. I’m waiting on a link to the study so everyone can read. Also if the officer was given pain meds it will also delay the questioning until the officer is no longer under the influence of the drug.

Also with an ongoing investigation they will typically give a short and sweet statement, ie: Officer Wilson encountered 2 individuals on xyz drive, a shooting occurred and one of the individuals died. They will leave fine details for the ongoing investigation and final report but in the meantime release a shot version (which they didn’t even do for the Brown death) and release that to the media.

***Don’t shoot the messenger, I wanted to know why just as much as anyone else and hopefully this gives some insight into report, also I can’t say I agree with it.

IMO, with drug testing officers…..I feel they should be tested in any discharge of their firearm. Air Traffic Controllers are routinely tested after incidents so why not cops?

Thanks for letting us know that police departments, in general, close ranks to protect their own.

Tape of shots fired at Mike Brown have been authenticated and apparently even Hoff admits it wasn’t a hoax H/t to little green footballs ( that conservative blog that keeps right wing ones honest). Man used an app called “Glide” and Hoff was saying it was a punk by Howard stern. But he’s retracted that.

Well, I still need to vent!

I am still upset and horrified that Ferguson police fired rubber bullets at peaceful protesters!

Since the time I first saw this photo, I cannot get it out of my mind. (I actually need to never forget it so that I will never forget the potential for police to get out of hand and behave irresponsibly)

The photo is of a woman who is a church pastor who was hit by one of the rubber bullets:

Are you referring to Mya Aaten-White, a Howard graduate who works for a law firm in St. Louis where she is originally from? She was a peaceful protester who was shot in the head by a real bullet as she was walking back to her car.

She took refuge in a nearby home where 911 was called three times before help came to take her to the hospital. A day later the bullet was removed and a police officer took possession of it. Now the police say they do not have the bullet.

Despite her efforts to have the police interview her and file a police report, this has not been done by the police yet. She has a lawyer who is trying unsuccessfully to get some action out of the police.

Something very fishy is going on involving the police in her case.

@ Dr. Rex, somethin in the back of my mind, tells me that, this officer was indeed, on some sort of mind altering drug. Because only someone whose “CRAZY” or hyped up on some kind of, “DRUG” would have been so depraved, as to do what this murderer did!
