Vent Away – Open Discussion

Caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and all creatures great and small,

After watching the Michael Brown funeral, I’m in a solemn yet angry mood.  I’m angry because of ignorant people who think it’s a fun thing to do to disrespect the dead because of their race.  I’m angry that those doing so also claim being of a superior race, and I’m angry that their hypocrisy prevents them from knowing that death does not discriminate.

I’m angry that some people think that cops are gods, rather than men and women who voluntarily chose to be cops along with all of the frailties of mankind.

Okay — I’ll just say it — to Darren Wilson supporters, let him patrol in your neighborhood.   Do we see how that worked for George Zimmerman?  His own friend doesn’t want him patrolling the back of his store.  The so-called supporters say one thing but act another.

“Oh yeah. Let’s support the trigger happy guys who killed unarmed Black teens, but we don’t want let them loose in our neighborhoods with those guns.”

I’m saddened.  I’m saddened that there are hundreds of thousands of young people, White, Black, Brown, Yellow and Red, who have done everything they were told would make them successful to obtain the American dream, to find that they can be stopped in their tracks if just one person discovers that they smoked a joint, or used profanity at a cop, or listened to that music.  And, I remember a time when guys with long hair were beaten by cops and some people thought that they deserved it because they were hippies.

Where do we go from here?

What’s on your mind?

I am listening to “What’s Going On”…..I’ll probably replay it for awhile before I can even begin to comment…I also am experiencing the feelings you have expressed.

Xena, I expect no less from evil and those who open their hearts to evil. However, we do have the trump card for that, don’t we?

    • yahtzeebutterfly

I’ve changed Simon and Garfunkel’s lyrics to make a statement.

Some men get tied up to the ground of evil
They give the world it’s saddest sound
      Its saddest sound

  2. What can I say? Only that I feel like you. Don’t know where to look, what to say, what to expect. Where are in one f’up nation!! There … had to say it!! Tights hugs!

  3. For those who believe they are of a “superior race,” I don’t know why they act so low.

  4. yahtzeebutterfly

I do know that we cannot be silent.
I do know that our love and caring hearts can nourish other hearts.
I do know that people uniting in love and compassion can change the world.

We just must never be silent.

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more.
    People talking without speaking,
    People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
    And no one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence.

“Fools,” said I, “You do not know –
    Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence.

    • yahtzeebutterfly

In the above video Art Garfunkel introduces “The Sounds of Silence” by saying

This is a song about the inability of people to communicate with each other.
And, not particularly internationally, but especially emotionally.
So that what you see around you is people who are unable to love each other.
This is called “The Sounds of Silence.”

  5. Xena,
I feel sad, hopeless, angry and question justice.
    My heart aches.
    What is justice for ALL?
There is no such thing and I’m angry at the ignorant and the ones that choose to be racist and hate any one different.
There is NO superior race. They talk about Jesus.
I’m sure Jesus wasn’t white. Would they treat him the same way?

    • Lolypop,
If Jesus appeared in America today as he previously, physically appeared on Earth, cops would beat and arrest him for being homeless, unemployed, exciting a riot, and being a burden on society.

    This makes me weepy. 😦

    • yahtzeebutterfly

      I know, Jackie.

Tears have been filling my eyes and heart today.

Here is a *hug* for you.

And, to all of the rest of you, here are some hugs for you also:

      *Hugs of comfort*

and *hugs as we pray for strength and a refreshening*

  7. yahtzeebutterfly

Xena, have a look at this site, please. To me it represents a new activism and a way forward with things people can do:

We are striving for a world where we deal with harm in our communities through healing, love, and kinship.

This means an end to state sponsored violence, including the excessive use of force by law enforcement. We are committed to an America that comes to terms with the trauma of its painful history and finds true reconciliation for it. Mass incarceration and the criminalization of black and brown people must forever end, leaving in its place a culture that embraces our histories and stories. This means an end to racial bias and white supremacy in all its forms.

Our dreams are directly linked with those resisting militarism, war, and state repression around the world. We will achieve this new beloved community hand in hand, step by step, in global solidarity with all people committed to lasting peace and full justice.

  9. yahtzeebutterfly

It breaks my heart knowing the sad truth that Blacks are unfairly stereotyped by the police.
It is so heinously unfair and so upsetting to me. I can’t begin to understand the stress and the pressure that Blacks, especially, are under because THEY (and not Whites) are the ones targeted and negatively profiled most of the time by the police.

A tweeter spoke to this today in terms of survival:

    Frank Puddle @francisadujr

One of the biggest irks I get from respectability politics is the notion that black people gotta live lives of sainthood in order to not die.

Bianca Phipps – “Open Letter to the Mother of Michael Dunn”

    • Joseph,
Let’s hope that this time, Corey and Guy do a better job convincing the jury that when a person kills another and leaves the scene and doesn’t contact law enforcement, it’s an unsolved murder and not self-defense. Let’s also hope that they make it clear to the jury that Dunn says Jordan was retreating into the vehicle when he (Dunn) began firing. Dunn was never in any danger of death or great bodily harm. Additionally, there’s a third point; i.e., Dunn cannot blame the cops for not finding a shotgun or a stick that he only told them about after he was taken into custody and questioned.

      • Xena, probably this time they(Corey and Guy) will do a better job because no officer in Jacksonville is taking side with the murderer nor their troll have any
opportunity to create a narrative and that it’s why Michael Done is done!

        • Joseph,
Let’s hope so. Attorney John Phillips has updated his blog with new filings in the case. It appears that the State has added a bunch of witnesses, letters that Dunn wrote from jail, and jail house phone calls. An interesting witness is an employee of the pizza place.

          • Xena, what is the meaning of the second disclosure to prosecution,
those 3s will be testifying for the defense?

            Prosecution witness list ; priceless.

            • Joseph, yeah — looks like Dunn is going to call two private individuals and an inmate as character witnesses. LOL!

What I want to see at trial is a person of Jordan’s height in the two positions claimed by both sides with the sticks through the door of the SUV, showing where he was shot. We should then see whether he was getting back into the vehicle, or was already in the vehicle. Then Guy needs to argue that either or, it meant that Jordan was retreating and Dunn was under no threat.

Since they have charged Dunn with 1st degree murder, they need to communicate about him like he’s a murderer and stop trying to sound like they’re giving seminars to the jury.

          • Xena, good morning,it’s sadly funny how Dunn is behaving ,I don’t think he
knows for sure of “what is going on”.

His entrance in court the other day was happy, cynical and full of joy,he even
was saluting sheriff officers, did he knows regardless he will go to prison or
her lawyer is giving him the wrong “medication”?

I do not know what those 3s character witnesses will help him to anything, but
in the other hand we can see how far he is from reality and friendships with
            the outside world..

May be someone told him he will get away with it.

I hope him and Mr Wafer are getting ready for their new living spaces,
            24/7 regulations,free foods and lodgings.

            • Joseph,
From his police interview, it was clear that because he said that he was verbally threatened with death, that he thought he would not be arrested. All of his defenses might have been given some measure of credibility had he not left the scene and not called the police. He’s Done/Dunn. Now, awaiting sentencing on the 2nd degree attempted murder charges, he might as well make himself satisfied with being behind bars for a long time.

Right — Dunn and Wafer have three hots, a cot, and a squat in a small space. I only wish that Zimmerman was also in that condition.

          • Xena, hoping GZ will be in that condition ,is not over yet 🙂

  10. ladystclaire

Xena, I’m right there with you and, it just don’t make any sense, for some white people to act like this. I saw something, that really touched my heart. Students from Russia , paid their respects to Mike, while some of his own country men/women, have done nothing but dissed him in death. It’s not like the same thing can’t happen to their Loved one.

It’s just sickening, to read some of their comments, so I don’t. There were quake trimmers in a part of Cali today and, two american flags, were replaced by, two that had been bleached out, on the Brooklyn Bridge. That very same bridge, has been breached yet again and nobody knows, whose doing this. These people would do good, to humble themselves to God, instead of mocking a deceased kid. Their evilness will not, be tolerated much longer by God Almighty. How soon, they forgot 9/11.

    • ladystclaire,

Xena, I’m right there with you and, it just don’t make any sense, for some white people to act like this.

They bring reproach to the millions of Whites who are not of the same mindset, and that is actually what the bigoted want to do. They want a racial divide. They want a race war. Some cops are helping them.

Their evilness will not, be tolerated much longer by God Almighty.

I was thinking earlier today about the spirit that formed this country, and wondering if that spirit is going to always haunt this country. Today in the comments on the live stream of Mike’s funeral, some dimwit said that if it wasn’t for slavery, Blacks would still be in Africa. I thought, if it wasn’t for Europeans, Native Americans would still have their culture, tribes, land, and lives. How is it right to slaughter the natives of a land, then enslave a people from another continent to work stolen land for the profit of Europeans who then waged war so they would not be taxed by yet another land that claimed ownership of the colonies?

Then too, I thought if Africa was so bad, why did Europeans go there for the people and the diamonds, and also create “South Africa”? People were not kidnapped from Africa as a rescue mission to save them from that land nor themselves. When is this hypocrisy going to end?

  11. yahtzeebutterfly

He did not play fair with me.
I turned and raised my arms in surrender.
Why was he running after me anyway?
My heart was beating, I was so scared.
    Not walking on the sidewalk?
I broke away from his hold on my neck
And, I ran. I ran from this cop who
    Was not acting right.
    His reaction to me?
It was so bizarre that it frightened me.
Oh, how I ran. I knew I was not safe.
I knew something was wrong with him.
    But, when he pursued me…shooting!
Well, I knew to stop and surrender.
I thought he would stop shooting.
    But then…..then…..

    • CNN recently reported that audio captured Darren Wilson shooting 11 times; 5 as Mike ran away, and 6 after he held his arms up and faced Wilson.

If it’s true that some of the bullets found their way into apartments, Wilson should be arrested for placing citizens in danger.

      • yahtzeebutterfly

That is exactly, exactly what I have been thinking all week, Xena. Bystanders could have been killed by those stray bullets. People in that apartment could have been killed if the bullets had penetrated deeper into and through the wall of that apartment.

      • Don’t forget that there was also the first shot that was not caught on tape, the one from within the police car. So that makes a total of 12 shots fired at MB.

        • It sounds like the last volley consisted of 4 shots. Michael was shot 6 times, so 2 of the bullets had to have hit him from the back.

Darren Wilson should be immediately arrested for endangering others because some of his shoots went into the homes of others. Let him make bail or sit in jail until the murder investigation is completed.

          • The second autopsy report does not support that, they said only one shot could’ve come from behind–the one on the forearm. He would’ve had to have spun around rather quickly in order to have been hit from the front. We need to see the angles of the shots to see if one could’ve have occurred as he was turning around.

            • Towerflower, I need to watch the video again by think that it was also said that the scrape on Mike’s hand could have come from the back or the front.

I see the turning around as one fluid action that explains why all the shots were on Mike’s right side with the exception of the last one to the top of his head, which was probably done after he was on the ground.

          • The glancing shot was to the upper arm, the hand shot was a clear bullet wound. I would still like to see what the trajectory is on the shots, but you have a point that they are all to the right side of the body.

            • The trajectory is pertinent, as well as any GSR on Mike’s clothing since it is said that he was shot once from the cop’s vehicle. Yeah — I can visualize Mike turning around in a fluid motion where only the right side of his body was facing forward with the last shot being “center mass” to his head.

    • yahtzeebutterfly

Why did you do this to Michael Brown, Darren Wilson!

Why did you kill him execution-style!

      What is wrong with you??

I is time for you to do the right thing, and come clean!!!!!!!

  12. yahtzeebutterfly …. you have hit it on the nail!! Why Darren? He took this young life w/o any regard. And now he hides because he fears for his life. I sure hope that all comes to light …. the family you damaged deserved justice. You did wrong …. now face the consequences of your actions!!! 😦

    • yahtzeebutterfly

      Yes, Horty.

And, Ofc. Wilson should have had a blood/drug test.

Take a look at this article:

“Anabolic Steroid Use and Abuse by Police Officers: Policy & Prevention”

      • Interesting! Hadn’t thought about steroid use …. prevalent. And causing “roid rage”. May be a factor. That one of the reasons he’s hiding, to clean his system. SHAME!!

        • yahtzeebutterfly

You know, if an officer was given a heads-up that a random drug test was going to be given him, he might go off the drug for a day or two to be clean (if it works that way in clearing the blood.)

I have heard that some people become nuts with rage when going off such steroids.

          • What you have heard is true. Not only when coming off but also while on them. I dealt with plenty of them … they are like Hulk!

          • yahtzeebutterfly

Oh, I did not know it was also when they are on them.

            Hey, crustyolemothman,

Thank you so much for posting this info!

I was wondering the length of time it would take for blood to clear in order not to be detected.

And, here you are helping me to know. I appreciate your researching it!

  13. here’s the new audio of the shots

    • 11 shots caught on audio

      • yahtzeebutterfly

        Thank you, Shannon.

        It supports eyewitnesses’ statements.

        • Yep, Just like we always knew! 4-5 different ppl all w. different points of views. all with similar accounts. there’s really never been a doubt in my mind. I believed the damn witnesses & that should be plenty enough for an arrest! all these other distractions, video tape of argument abt cigars.not calling ems, not informing dispatch of a killing. NOT WRITING a report &this bogus needless grand jury. they should be arresting that man NOW!

          • Shannon, Wilson should be arrested now for endangering others since at least one of the bullets he fired went into a residence. For SA McCullough to ignore that is like having an attitude that the citizens and their property are collateral damage.

          • Xena, “Collateral damage” does happen. There is a case here recently in Orlando in which the cops confronted an armed drunk man outside a nightclub. When he wouldn’t put the gun down they opened fire and ended up hitting one of their own and killed a young woman in a nightclub when one of the shots went through the door of the club and hit the woman.

The man’s gun was stolen and empty–but the cops didn’t know that. He was pissed about getting thrown out of the club due to his intoxicated state and came back with the gun and demanded to be let back in. He was shot multiple times but survived and is now facing 1st degree murder for the death of the young woman killed by police fire.

            • Towerflower,
Geez. Those laws came about because of innocent people killed during the commission of a crime. But if I understand this right, the only crime the man is charged with is 1st degree murder for the cops’ collateral damage??

          • yahtzeebutterfly

The police officer is the one who should be facing 1st degree murder for killing that young woman!

          • Xena, I’m sure he is facing more charges since the gun was stolen and he was flashing it around, but yes, he is now facing 1st degree murder for the death of the young woman who was killed by the cop and I bet they also add on charges to the LT who was also shot in the leg but survived (also hit by cop shots).

            • Towerflower,
I just don’t know what to think of statutes that hold others accountable when cops shoot others. (sigh) In Illinois, I understand the statute that can be paraphrased as, “if not but for the fact that John brought Ken with him in the commission of a crime, Ken would not have been killed by Officer Do-Gooder.” What I don’t understand is, “If not but for the fact that someone was minding their own business when officer Do-Gooder shot at Ken, they would not have been hit by Officer Do-Gooder’s bullet.”

  14. Okedokie….

This weekend my Christian Band is playing an outdoor revival in Vineland NJ. I plan on talking about the issue of “Why can’t we all just get along” and talk about these gun nuts and the racism behind Trayvon Martins murder, Jordan Davis, McBride, Michael Brown and as many as I can find.

If anyone wants something said in brief, it will help me get OUR message across. This will be taped as I understand so maybe we’ll get a little tube time.

The senior pastor at the Church we play at all the time, and just did 5 hours of music on Sat. at his outdoor fun day is from Nigeria and the Church is mostly AA and Hispanic. We have 1 minority in our band and the true fellowship is astounding. Hmmmmmmm

I guess we can all get along if we try.

    • yahtzeebutterfly

Perhaps, just to have the Whites in the audience take a moment to realize that they do not have the worries and stress because their innocent children and innocent relatives are not UNFAIRLY, negatively stereotyped and criminally profiled by police.
….that they do not spend night after night on their knees praying for the safety of their loved ones.

(Congratulations, racer, on your musical success! 🙂 )

      • yahtzeebutterfly

and “Come on everybody, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now 🙂 “

    • Racer,
Thanks for sharing the good news about the band with us.

If anyone wants something said in brief, it will help me get OUR message across.

Thank you, but what I want to say would not be brief — it would be a sermon. 🙂

  15. Arrest Darren Wilson NOW for Public Endangerment.

  16. remember what Dorian said about the way Wilson addressed them when he stopped to yell out his window to express his concern for their safety as they walked down the relatively low traffic road in the neighborhood?
here’s another girl describing Wilson’s dedication & service to her.
    whatta guy.

  17. here Dorian explains Wilson’s words, verbatim, to them upon encounter. I’m just gonna say this, if some cop spoke to me like that I’d have a fucking FIT!!! which is exactly what Wilson knew he’d get for speaking to two young guys like a dogs!
this guy provoked them & got so pissed he thought he could snatch Mike up by the collar like a child for having the nerve to speak up for himself. I really can just see this play out in my mind. I see Wilson fuming, throwing his SUV in reverse & deciding he’s gonna make them do as their told!

  18. just some point of interest in this video taken at the crime scene.
notice there’s no cops talking to these witnesses, no CSI on scene. no one taking pics of evidence or anything. just cops coming to contain crowd with no concern for the ppl’s trauma who are staring in shock and horror at a dead kid laying out in their front yard.

i havent watched & listened to the entire video closely yet bc i’m trying to focus in on ppl in background who seem to be eye witnesses. and so far, there’s tons of witnesses in background who are discussing what they saw.
2:40-2:45 fired on boy w/hands up/hands in air
    3:59-5:25 he’s on ground &still shot

  19. yahtzeebutterfly

      They censor our peace,
      put sensors by our feet
      they prepare for war,
      they wanna rip us apart
      take part in our destruction

You may go to this link to read the entire poem:

Apparently, because the link I posted had http:// in front of it, the whole poem was posted here.

Here is the link to the Ferguson poetry page without the http:

    • that’s but a snippet of police terrorizing the ppl they’re supposed to be serving. I can’t get over how long the police were allowed to literally aim their assault weapons on peaceful men women & children, in plain view of the whole world! sitting on top of tanks w weapons trained directly into the crowds. military looking police lined up with their guns…

I just can’t believe it. I really hope the ACLU etc. private attnys who ever are down there filing suit on behalf of every single person brutalized, intimidated & attacked by the Ferguson police dept. mayor, governor -everyone who was in charge and thought they could just do whatever they wanted!
there should be a GIANT LAWSUIT as well as criminal charges filed against all of those assholes!

      • yahtzeebutterfly

Shannon, did you notice how those “police” were dressed?

        • yes, as if they’re in a war zone. here’s a video I saw today that represents what the ppl of Ferguson are really doing & why they’re doing it now. I’m trying to get it circulating on twitter but it’s not going so well. likely because it’s a little long and not sensationalized, just an accurate look at the issues of this city & regular ppl describing them.

I was referring to the fact that the “police” pointing the gun at the lady and those around him were in jeans and a t-shirt. I was just wondering what LE group they were with, dressed that way.

Does anyone know of a picture which shows ALL of the orange pylons which police set out from the SUV to Mike’s body in the street?

Why are some of the police officers at the scene wearing blue shirts and some tan?

  25. I recently spoke to a relative who is a cop and I had some questions about policy. Mainly dealing with officer’s statements and the released report that didn’t contain any statements.

First each department will have different policies, but with an officer involved shooting the person who questions/investigates the officer will typically write out a statement and not the officer.

Also in serious situations, like a shooting, they may even delay the questioning for a couple of days……why? Because there have been several studies that prove the memory of an event improve over at least 2 sleep cycles. I’m waiting on a link to the study so everyone can read. Also if the officer was given pain meds it will also delay the questioning until the officer is no longer under the influence of the drug.

Also with an ongoing investigation they will typically give a short and sweet statement, ie: Officer Wilson encountered 2 individuals on xyz drive, a shooting occurred and one of the individuals died. They will leave fine details for the ongoing investigation and final report but in the meantime release a shot version (which they didn’t even do for the Brown death) and release that to the media.

***Don’t shoot the messenger, I wanted to know why just as much as anyone else and hopefully this gives some insight into report, also I can’t say I agree with it.

IMO, with drug testing officers…..I feel they should be tested in any discharge of their firearm. Air Traffic Controllers are routinely tested after incidents so why not cops?

Thanks for letting us know that police departments, in general, close ranks to protect their own.

  26. Prosecutors are recommending a 17 year sentence for Ted Wafer. IMO, he should be sentenced to 19 years, which is how old Renisha was when he murdered her.

  27. Tape of shots fired at Mike Brown have been authenticated and apparently even Hoff admits it wasn’t a hoax H/t to little green footballs ( that conservative blog that keeps right wing ones honest). Man used an app called “Glide” and Hoff was saying it was a punk by Howard stern. But he’s retracted that.
Once more for fun I give you

This is an utterly horrific piece of video – a black man in Minnesota being tased in front of his kids for no reason:

Well, I still need to vent!

I am still upset and horrified that Ferguson police fired rubber bullets at peaceful protesters!

Since the time I first saw this photo, I cannot get it out of my mind. (I actually need to never forget it so that I will never forget the potential for police to get out of hand and behave irresponsibly)

The photo is of a woman who is a church pastor who was hit by one of the rubber bullets:

    • Yahtzeebutterfly,
There was a photo on Twitter that was worst — the bullet went into a woman’s face.

Are you referring to Mya Aaten-White, a Howard graduate who works for a law firm in St. Louis where she is originally from? She was a peaceful protester who was shot in the head by a real bullet as she was walking back to her car.

She took refuge in a nearby home where 911 was called three times before help came to take her to the hospital. A day later the bullet was removed and a police officer took possession of it. Now the police say they do not have the bullet.

Despite her efforts to have the police interview her and file a police report, this has not been done by the police yet. She has a lawyer who is trying unsuccessfully to get some action out of the police.

Something very fishy is going on involving the police in her case.

  30. I have been without words for days now. I can’t write, I can’t speak. I have nothing to say that even begins to touch on what I feel. It is impossible.

@ Dr. Rex, somethin in the back of my mind, tells me that, this officer was indeed, on some sort of mind altering drug. Because only someone whose “CRAZY” or hyped up on some kind of, “DRUG” would have been so depraved, as to do what this murderer did!
