The man now leading police in Ferguson, Missouri, walked Thursday night with those protesting the shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, one day after protesters faced rubber bullets and tear gas from heavily armed officers in riot gear.

I’m watching MSNBC now and they are talking about video at a convenience store where Michael allegedly shoplifted. That’s not “new” news. The first reports released said that a teen was shot dead for shoplifting. That deserves arrest — not being shot in the back then shot while holding hands in the air.

Of course he looks nervous. He is not a leader, neither confident. Actually, I don’t think he should be holding press conferences.
MO Governor is going to hold a press conference shortly.

He should be a nervous wreck. He should also be relieved of his duties, because he very publicly proved that he is incompetent in his job and he very publicly demonstrated shamefully and disgracefully bad judgment (an understatement).
My guess is that someone ordered him to hold that press conference (if you could call it that), thereby serving him a hefty portion of crow to eat for breakfast.
He could barely choke out the shooting cop’s name. He also threw in some confusing timeline information that covered all of about six minutes of the day the cop killed Michael Brown – which only raised more questions while answering none.
To me, he he came across just as excessively and stubbornly secretive as he’s been all along – very begrudgingly revealing the cop’s name (and probably only because he was ordered to do so), then walking away, as if that was more than enough information to share with the people he “serves” and who pay his salary, as well as the millions of us who have been stunned by his stonewalling day after day after day.
He needs to just crawl back under whatever rock he came from, and let an actualy law enforcement professional take over everything having to do with this case. What a disgrace.
(Other than that, he was OK. LOL!!)

Also named in the police report is Dorian Johnson, said to have been Brown’s accomplice in the robbery. Johnson is also a witness to Brown’s shooting and his account of events has been one of the primary pieces of evidence for police misconduct. In Johnson’s version of events, needless to say, he and Brown were not perpetrators of a crime.
All of which gives rise to a mystery — why haven’t the police arrested Dorian Johnson?
Regardless of whether the use of deadly force was justified as a means of apprehending a robbery suspect, on the police’s account of events one of the suspects — Johnson — was very much not dead. Why not arrest him? He isn’t missing. He’s been doing interviews with TV stations.

The incident report has the value of them as $50 which is not the cost of a single pack of these items….they would have had to taken an entire carton/or display box of them. They are calling it a strong armed robbery since Mike Brown grabbed the store employee.
There are a lot of reports saying that the clothing doesn’t match but from what I have seen I don’t see any difference. The only difference I could really see was the coloring of the shorts that Mike Brown was wearing and that might be due to the lighting since the incident report does mention khaki shorts. Some have even said where is his hat? But if you go through the shooting photos you will find a red ball cap on the ground next to a cop’s SUV.
Regardless of what happened in the store, it still does not justify what happened minutes later.

The problem is that we don’t really know what happened minutes later… Do we automatically accept the word of the accomplice in a crime, that would probably tell you anything you “wanted” to hear to save his own skin? I was not there and neither were the millions of people that are commenting about this case. I am actually a little disappointed that so many people jumped to conclusions that are slowly being shown to be somewhat inaccurate. I stated at the very beginning, that the truth was probably some where in the middle of what was being said, and it seems that so far that was pretty accurate. Did this young man deserve to die for petty theft? If that was the only thing he did then the answer was/is no he did not, but do we have the complete truth, and if we do receive it, will it be accepted or will it continue to be easier to condemn the Police Dept. than to admit to our selves that they are not 100% responsible for what happened… I’ll freely admit that I don’t know exactly what happened in any part of this whole incident, and I question if some of the news that we have received was reported with a helping of bias to stir the pot of hatred on both sides of the aisle…

yahtzee, I, like you have read the reports that numerous people saw the incident happen. Several allegedly had photo’s and video of it, still in their possession, but I can’t seem to find any links to those photo’s or video. While I realize that it is not popular to jump on the proverbial band wagon and totally blame the officer that fired the shots, I think that I will reserve that judgment until after we are assured that we actually “know” the whole truth. Perhaps the incident did happen exactly as we have been told, but did it? I’ve asked several people, after they stated that the police handled the civil disorder (aka: riots) wrong how they would have responded, and have as yet to receive a realistic answer. How would I respond if people were throwing rocks and bottles at me and making threats? I could write out a pretty little paragraph saying I would have done this or done that, but would I have actually done it that way when faced with the mob? It is so easy to find fault in others actions, but so difficult to admit (for too many people) to admit to our own mistakes, that is a human trait, and unfortunately Police Officers are people as well, and so are people who commit criminal acts. I hope that you realize my words are not pointed at you or anyone in particular, but instead at each and everyone of us as a group.

Good film, it clearly shows the police officers surrounded by what could be considered an unruly crowd acting in a threating way… But perhaps I am misreading the intent of the crowd, perhaps they were seeking to give a loving embrace to those officers? It also dispels the story that the police brought the dog for crowd control, it seems the police brought the dog out of the vehicle to use in a defensive manner against the loving crowd. The real question that has yet to be answered is why did the officer shoot? Quite probably he reacted in a manner that was not only unrealistic but illegal as well, but we don’t actually know that yet, we are only choosing to believe that at this point in time… I realize how unpopular my words are, but I refuse to pass judgment until we have all the facts…

@ Crusty – I’ve been drafting a thoughtful, rational explanation to you regarding how you might – or at least could – analyze the events from a perspective other than your bias in favor of the police who have overreacted from the very killing and every step of the way and thereby THEMSELVES created and have perpetuated the community and even international response to their aggressive behavior, secrecy, stonewalling and, now, smearing campaign.
But clearly that’s been a waste of my time, so I’m not going to finish it.

CNN has the video that the still were taken from….no audio. I was wondering about the lighting since the stills showed darker shorts but the actual video shows khaki shorts.

MSBNC is showing clips of actual video. There is no sound.
The first reports in this case said that an unarmed man was shot by police for shoplifting. That probably came from the man who was with Michael. Still, it does not justifying shooting Michael multiple times.

Xena, I agree. We know there was a scuffle at the police car from numerous witnesses and those same witnesses all said he was giving up with his hands in the air. I wish the police had also released the photos, if they exist, of the injuries the cop says he sustained (swollen side of face). Even if Brown did strike the officer does that warrant deadly force when he was running away and unarmed? I don’t think so.

I would think that a trained cop knows better than to try and detain a suspect through the window of his vehicle. Had Michael been the aggressor by reaching into the window, the car has a gas pedal. The entire story stinks.
