I AM AN ALLY

I was just about to write about two Endangered Birds this morning, when this came in my email.
The Birds can wait until tomorrow, this is much more important to me and millions of others around the world.
First let me say, that I have felt this way since the 60’s, when I lived in L.A. , long before it was fashionable to do so.
It was the time of flower children, free love, inspirational speeches and thinking, yes some of it was quite radical as well, and also sadly, way too many really bad drugs.
It was more importantly, a time of a different kind of attitude toward others.
Did the Viet Nam War/Conflict have anything to do with this, probably.
We were all so very young and so very scared.
We had a common bond, a mantra, ” trust no one over 30.”

And, the lyrics of many of the 60’s songs preached love and caring.
Love is but a song we sing
Fear’s the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment’s sunlight
Fading in the grass
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand, listen
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It’s there at your command
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
I said come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now
Right now

“Put a Little Love in Your Heart”
by Jackie DeShannon, Jimmie Holiday & Randy
Think of your fellow man
lend him a helping hand
put a little love in your heart.
You see it’s getting late
oh please don’t hesitate
put a little love in your heart.
And the world will be a better place
and the world will be a better place
for you and me
you just wait and see
Another day goes by
and still the children cry
put a little love in your heart.
If you want the world to know
we won’t let hatred grow
put a little love in your heart.
And the world will be a better place
and the world will be a better place
for you and me
you just wait and see
Take a good look around and
if you’re lookin’ down
put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide
kindness will be your guide
put a little love in your heart.
And the world will be a better place
and the world will be a better place
for you and me
you just wait and see
put a little love in your heart each and every day
put a little love in your heart there’s no other way
put a lttle love in your heart, it’s up to you
put a little love in your heart…

I am an Ally!! The 60’s was a time that seems to repeat itself in so many ways! I LOVE seeing my Granddaughter wearing the headbands like we did,the peace signs jewelry, etc.,going to all the festivals up all around NY.She can sit & listen for hours about the 60’s.She is not too fond of the draft idea.I had so many friends who were & still are affected by Vietnam.Thank you for the Aquarius song, because I thought at the time it was made for me since I just happened to be an Aquarius! My kids to this day love my 60’s music.
Boy did I ever get a culture shock back in 68…I moved from Texas to California for 3 years!
This one meeting spot keeps reminding me of just what a full life I have had! It seems like back the everything was about PEACE & LOVE!!
I don’t remember which one raised my Sweet Daddy’s(God Rest His Soul) blood pressure more….me ironing my hair on the ironing board or coming out of my room with empty cans for curlers!

Oh, LOL, that is so funny, Marilyn! 😀
You must have freaked your dad out when he saw you doing that worrying that you might burn yourself!
I have been surprised that so many of my friends’ kids have enjoyed our 60’s music. They really do love it!

Can I be an Ally too if I reached Allyhood in the early 70’s? I remember after washing my hair at night, I would braid it very tight, and in the morning it would frizz out. I had a leather hat with beads around it, a leather vest with beads hanging down it, Levi big bottom bells, a leather belt, and moccasins. I also wore a Levi jacket and halter tops and sometimes a headband. Oh and my favorite pair of jeans had a big peace sign patch on my rear side.
At that time we lived on a ranch where we boarded horses. I had an appaloosa. I remember during the week I would sneak a beer now and then, and on the weekend late at night I would take a couple of them, go behind the barn, drink them, smoke my Marlboro’s, and then get on my horse bareback, and ride out into the pasture under the moonlight. My mom laughs about it now, she thought I would run away to live on a hippy commune.
