We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident 
This has been on my mind. It’s only a matter of time. And no matter how many are killed, there will still be those opposed to any sort of ‘gun control’. Including laws that say we can’t have guns in our schools.

While this was somewhat done in jest…it is a very real and growing concern as gun nuts spurred on by the IRA and Conservatives, push guns into mainstream society and attempting to make the use of guns as solutions commonplace.

“Seriously, does the Idaho State Legislature have nothing better to do? Like get the economy moving? I’m an Idaho native and have a cousin who’s a BSU undergrad. I love him, but trust me, the world is a better place without him lugging a Glock 9mm around in his backpack.
“And the notion that a kid with a gun could prevent something like Newtown or Va. Tech is unsubstantiated, unresearched nonsense. A 2008 Rand Corporation study analyzed NYC data on police shootings. It showed that highly trained police officers are accurate in hitting the person they’re aiming at 30% of the time. And if they’re being shot at, accuracy drops to 18%. Ergo, if you had a couple students firing back at a school shooter (assuming they could dig through their backpacks and find their guns in the panic and chaos) they’d likely injure or kill one or more classmates by accident. And since it’s doubtful they’ve trained with their weapon as much as a police officer, they’d do well to hit a shooter one-out-of-ten shots.
“Sadly, Congress in its infinite wisdom has defunded virtually all research into the gun violence epidemic by the NIH and the CDC. Legislatures are not listening to their constituents. The below video is from 2011. The speaker is the Chair for the Univ. of Texas history department. He is very credible and one thing that he points out is the difficulty to recruit and hire qualified staff if conceal guns are allowed on campuses.

I saw this I believe here last year. Having experience just in combat style target practice, paintball with very accurate markers, and having been shot at once in real life, I can say this is very accurate.
Most people in a situation where self defense with any weapon happens, it is a fact that the average person takes 3 + seconds to even process the image and make a move of any kind.
It’s also a fact that even in most police shootouts as many as 30 shots are exchanged and seldom is either party hit at any range more than 30 or so feet.
When I used to go the range to practice, and my dad was a championship caliber shooter and taught me everything he knew, the accuracy % drops by well over 60 % from “take your time, aim…..carefully and slowly pull the trigger” to a “Holy shit, (draw, spray and pray) it’s a combat / self defense, me or him” situation.
My thoughts on gun control. If there’s a gun in the room….I’ll be in control of it, that way I know it’s locked away.

I think insurance companies will refuse to rewrite their policy and this will be their safety net…so funders and college funding is big business now, can say well, it was fine with us but those pesky insurance companies threw a wrench into it.
Texas now allows open carry so everyone can feel so much safer with young men and their oh so cool bazookas tossed over their shoulders. 😦

I want to add what may begin the dial back….allowing guns on campuses may just do it. Whom attends college? Mostly wealthy kids or kids with wealthy parents ( GI bill no longer active). So, if insurance companies don’t throw water on this, a parent losing a kid and not being accustomed to this horror may begin to pressure their state legislatures to retract it.
Nothing else is, folks. I’ve said this before NRA is our biggest lobby. If you even think of putting anything in their way, they will crush you out of office. They get every law passed and that is the reason they moved to wacko laws like extreme SYG ( cause actually Castle doctrine is old law and makes total sense). SYG wasn’t introduced until 2005 and now 49/50 states have a version.
Since those were enacted, NRA lobby asks for and successfully receives any and all expansions on SYG. Nothing improved after New town. Nothing from Pres. but a lecture. They have big big big bucks and the means to remove any legislature x10 due to SC

Sad thing is, I used to live in Idaho and by posting his letter, this professor has no doubt opened himself up to a lot of hostility. Idaho is quite the red state and most people there are not friendly to any non-conservative point of view. Kudos to him for his bravery.

I hope the professor doesn’t receive negative repercussions. A good thing about having such a career is that there are other colleges he can work for — even leave the state if necessary — but not to Texas.
