  1. this is so sick, the shooter is a freak white supremacist. A Grandfather and his grandson were killed. They weren’t even Jewish. This man was indoctrinated early on in life to hate Jewish and Black people. There is a radio interview from a few years ago where he blames the Jewish people for all the World’s problems

I have some Jewish friends who lived in Overland Park and belonged to that community center. I worked with their son to teach him to swim when I would visit, in the pool that the center has.

    So much hatred.

    http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1401543.htm

Excerpt from article with statements from three religious communities:

“I express my deepest condolences to the Jewish community for the unspeakable act of violence that occurred on their campus on Sunday,” said Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in an April 13 statement.

“Our prayers also extend to the Methodist Church of the Resurrection for the loss they feel as a congregation, and to all the families who have experienced pain, sorrow and loss because of this event,” Archbishop Naumann added. The other two victims, Dr. William Lewis Corporon, 69, and 14-year-old Reat Griffin Underwood, were members of that congregation.

“I will remember all of you as we enter this prayerful time of remembrance — Holy Week and Passover,” Archbishop Naumann said.

The American Jewish Committee lamented the killings in an April 13 statement.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of this heartbreaking tragedy,” said AJC executive director David Harris.

“As we await more details on the attack and its motive, we join in solidarity with the entire Kansas City area community, both Jewish and non-Jewish, in expressing shock, sadness and dismay,” Harris added. “We can’t help but note that this attack comes on the eve of Passover, a celebration of Jewish freedom from oppression and violence.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington-based Muslim advocacy group, said U.S. Muslims “stood in solidarity” with American Jews in the wake of the attacks, which also critically wounded a 15-year-old boy.

  5. The SPLC emailed this to me today:

    “Dear Glenn,

Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones in the shootings that left three dead at a Jewish community center and retirement home in Overland Park, Kansas. We feel a special connection to them because we know the killer well.

His name is Frazier Glenn Miller, and he once plotted to assassinate my colleague Morris Dees.

Miller was the leader of a notorious neo-Nazi organization in the 1980s that was stockpiling weapons and training for a race war. His blueprint was a book called The Turner Diaries, a racist manifesto that also inspired the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 men, women, and children.

After Miller was convicted on criminal contempt charges in a case we brought, he went underground, declared “war” on the government, and offered a white supremacist bounty on Morris’ head. Luckily for us, he was caught and went to prison. Unfortunately, for the people of Overland Park, he was sentenced to only three years.

We’ve been contacted by the authorities and are sharing everything we know about Miller. But the sad truth is that there are other Millers out there – people with hate in their hearts who are willing to kill innocent people in the name of their race.
This sad truth is one of the reasons why our work fighting hate, teaching tolerance, and seeking justice is still so vital. I wish it were otherwise.

Thank you for standing with us.

    Sincerely yours,

    Richard Cohen
    President, Southern Poverty Law Center”

    • Glenn,
Thanks so much for sharing this. It’s scary. There is a harasser who meets the profile of Frazier Glenn Miller. He calls himself a sovereign citizen. He is hateful, demeaning, and takes pleasure in degrading others. It’s not just hate based on race but also against homosexuals and believers regardless of religion.

I watched Dr. Drew tonight and he and his panel talked about changes in the frontal lobe of the brain that comes with age and at times, illness such as strokes, and how those such as Miller might be constrained in actions when younger, but lose that constraint when becoming older because of frontal lobe changes.

They also talked a little about free speech versus terrorism. I suppose that many suspected domestic terrorists are being watched, but they are protected by the 2nd Amendment so law enforcement has to wait until they violate law. The sad thing is that by that time, human lives have been taken.

If you should communicate with Richard Cohen again, please send him my regards and appreciation for his work.

  6. How much progress have we as a species made since Hitler?

    • Hey Gator Woman. According to some astrologers, the planets are aligned now as they were during Hitler’s reign. I suppose that means that anyone who has the same attitude and ideologies as Hitler did are coming out of the woodwork. It doesn’t appear that we’ve made much progress since Hitler, or even pre Civil War, or even from the day that Cain killed Abel.
