One more reason why beach driving should be banned.

I saw this on CNN and when they said the children were screaming that their mom was trying to kill them, my heart dropped.  I’m glad that they were saved.

A terrifying scene took place today when a pregnant mother with a van full of kids, driving on the beach in Daytona, Florida, managed to steer her minivan directly into the ocean. With the kids screaming for help from the backseat, onlookers managed to chase the car down and help rescue the family. The mother was incoherent at the scene. She is know being evaluated by mental health professionals in Daytona. Watch the video below.

    • Marilyn,
It’s got to be in the planet alignment. That’s the best I can come up with because it’s better than thinking for this moment that people are losing their minds doing evil to others because they are evil. Maybe tomorrow I’ll think differently.

Yeah — sometimes there are no words to describe a situation other than “crazy.”

First the woman’s car plates were from S. Carolina, so either she was visiting or just moved here. The police had contacted her just hours prior to her doing this after her sister contacted them about her sister hearing demons and she feared what her sister might do.

The police found her and her children and pulled them over and talked to her. They said she was lucid and coherent and said she was looking to escape an abusive relationship (husband) and seeking shelter. The police said that the children were not in distress and they let her go and did not baker act her. Later when she did this the children were screaming that “mommy is trying to kill us”. They said she just stood to the side with a blank look on her face while the rescuers faced the rough surf to pull the children out. She wouldn’t even tell them about the youngest child that was the last to be pulled out–one man climbed into the van and found the child still strapped into a child seat.

They haven’t charged her yet but have her under observation in a hospital……now she was baker acted.

    • It’s really sad when people are in situations where they think the only way out is by death.

I remember the story of Rachelle Grimmer who moved from Ohio to Texas with her 2 children, and ended up killing herself and shooting both kids in the Health and Human Services offices because she could not get food stamps due to not giving them enough information. The 12 year old subsequently died.

My goodness! Wasn’t there a church or food pantry they could refer her to? No one should be forced to be hungry until all the i’s are dotted and t’s crossed. What makes it worst is that Grimmer’s mother-in-law said she had a history of mental illness.

  3. I had heard about this, but had no idea it was a deliberate act. I hope the children are safe now and the Mother is getting the help she needs.

    • towerflower,
Thanks for the update. I have such mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I am so very happy that no lives were lost. On the other hand, that woman needed help and it might have prevented what happened. Then again, maybe it wouldn’t.

My heart goes out for the children and their recovery from any emotional damage.

She sounds like she has a good insanity defense and hopefully she and the children get the help that they will need.
