In September 2013, 24-year old Jonathan Ferrell had a car accident.  After crashing his car into trees, Ferrell kicked out the back window of the vehicle and headed up a hill to the first set of houses he could see. He went to a house where the occupant called police reporting a breaking and entering.   When the police arrived, Ferrell had walked back to his car and was shot 10 times by Charlotte, NC officer Randall Kerrick.  Kerrick was arrested.

The situation came before a less than full panel of the Grand Jury who last Tuesday, elected not to indict Kerrick for voluntary manslaughter,  but said that North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper could resubmit the charge.  The case was resubmitted to a full grand jury and today, it entered an indictment for voluntary manslaughter.

Ferrells car 2The official indictment states that Kerrick “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously” killed and slayed Jonathan Akeem Piarre Ferrell.

According to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office, the grand jury came to its decision after hearing evidence from the State Bureau of Investigation and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, which had filed the original charges.

Ferrell is a former Florida A&M University football player.  He moved to Charlotte about a year ago to be with his fiancée and was working two jobs.  He was unarmed when killed.

  2. Finally! a semblance of what might be justice. I can only imagine how much this means to his family, that there may finally be justice for his death.

      • Xena, Add this information to what you pulled out of my prior link and you have another clue to follow on the money trail… If one were looking at one major source of the violence toward our fellow man in this nation, this should be the first to examine… I will agree with them on one thing, guns are not the problem, it is guns in the hands of our fast growing immature society that is the problem. But as long as you have big money to be made by supplying those guns, you will not resolve the problem… Remember the root of all money is “evil” (think about those words for a moment..)

      • The best stat of all is a positive one….

        “600,000

Semi-automatic shotguns and rifles bought back as part of new gun control measures in Australia after a 1996 mass shooting in which 35 people were killed. The country also prohibited private sales of guns. From 1995 to 2006, homicides by firearm in Australia plunged 59 percent – and they haven’t had a mass shooting since.”

They have gun buybacks in Camden NJ every few years and I can’t recall the number, but it’s in the thousands and the gun crime rate drops instantly.

Hey gun NutZZ and Right Wing Tree House Politico’s…….how hard is that to grasp.

Oh, my bad………they want the thugs wiped out by all means available.

  4. A 2 nd indictment. This is good. However what about the homeowner who made a breaking and entering claim, when there wasn’t one. What is happening to her?

That’s a good question. Maybe she’s home counting her fingers everyday knowing that her assumption ended up with an innocent person being killed.

  5. We have a case here of a man with a lengthy criminal record killing a kid who broke into his rental house Saturday morning. T

he H/O had coincidentally spent the night at the vacant rental home, to do some work when he says the kid came through a window. He wasn’t supposed to be carrying a gun at all. He walked. I smell a rat.

White West Virginia man kills innocent black neighbors

Two African-American men were killed by a white West Virginia man on Saturday when he shot the neighboring landowner and his brother on an adjacent property in Barboursville.

Rodney Bruce Black, 62, shot and killed Garrick Hopkins, 60, and his brother, Carl Hopkins, Jr., 61, with a rifle while the two men were inspecting a building on a piece of land that was newly-purchased by Garrick Hopkins and his wife. Both men were married and had children.
