Gone Too Soon – The Prayer of the Children

simmons funeralA new year is upon us.  While we wish each other a happy new year, let us not forget the children who have passed on.

Their families have faced the grief of burying them.

For some, their families await the trial of the person accused of killing their child.

For some others, the killer took their own life.

Still yet, at least one family seeks answers of who killed their son, and another family awaits the decision of the Department of Justice.

For Rebecca Sedwick’s family, they await hearing on their civil suit against those who bullied Rebecca until she took her own life.

The video below presents a small number of children whose lives were taken by others since last year.  The link after the video provides all those children killed by guns, whether ruled homicide or by accident – 194 since Sandy Hook.

May the memory of their young lives never be forgotten.

  1. Thank you, Xena, for creating this exquisitely, poignant video.

I have watched it five times already and each time with prayful tears while i only ached inside with no words at first to be able to comment.

I pray for all children that they may be no more who lose their lives as the precious children in your video did.

May all children grow up in the bright sunshine of SAFETY, LOVE, KINDNESS and ACCEPTANCE.

May our hearts guide us to change our society to create an atmosphere where our children will be safe.

    May bullying end.

    May stereotyping and profiling end.

May only responsible people have guns.

May our gun laws not be so vague that people feel that there is no alternative to shooting a gun.

May no one ever feel free to commit a hate crime with no consequences.

    GOD BLESS THE CHILDREN.

  2. Do many of you who have watched Xena’s moving video have as much trouble finding words to express its impact on your heart as I do?

    • Yahtzee, I checked stats and as of 1:20 p.m., there have been 86 views of this page, and on Youtube, 76 views of the video.

What can be said? There are some things that cannot be expressed in words.

Dunn’s trial is scheduled to begin in January. Like other criminal cases, there’s a chance that it might be continued.

I plan on doing some docket checking tonight and will get back with you.

That’s because I wouldn’t stop trying to post it. 🙂

Thanks for letting me know that Dunn’s trial starts in January.

No hurry for you to check the docket, but I would be interested. I am not good at docket checking.

    • Yahtzee,

Yes, the words are hard to find. Losing a child for any reason is painful, but to lose a child to murder has got to be twice as bad. We are not suppose to bury our children. I give Trayvon’s parents alot of credit for staying strong, and their belief in god to help them through this time. I don’t believe the result would have been the same had that been my husband, speaking honestly.

  3. “Macklemore’s Trayvon Martin Tribute Matters”
    November 25 2013

Macklemore couldn’t attend the American Music Awards in person, but he accepted an award over satellite from where he was stationed in Miami. He used his moment in the spotlight to memorialize Trayvon Martin and highlight the problem of racial profiling.

    Here’s text from his speech:

“Now that I’m sitting here in front of millions of people, I’d like to address something extremely important to me. I was talking to my friend before the show and he reminded me of a great Martin Luther King quote. He said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ And due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it. This is really happening. These are our friends, our neighbors, our peers, and our fans, and it’s time that we look out for the youth and fight against racism and the laws that protect it.”

It’s inspiring to see an artist who’s mindful of his influence and willing to put his politics front and center. And it matters because, despite what you think about his music, people are listening.

  6. Trayvon had so much to look forward to, so many dreams. George Zimmerman cut short those dreams. The world lost a precious soul when GZ killed him.

      • I agree Xena, he does have a good heart. All his video’s were fantastic. Had they been played for the jury, you have to wonder if the outcome would have been the same.

        • dreamer, I heard Bernie use several arguments from videos, including that of LLMPapa’s.

With Juror B37 on the panel, it would not have made any difference. Like her former literary said, she found Zimmerman not guilty “due to the manner in which he was arrested.”
