We have not lost Nelson Mandela. He was a blessing, an inspiration, and dedicated freedom fighter. Even after close to three decades of being imprisoned, he surfaced unscathed, and continued to teach equality.

This gentle, wise man would never want us, or his family to mourn his passing. I truly believe his only wish would be that we all follow his earnest teachings, which will keep him with us for many years to come.

Bless you Nelson Mandela. Bless your family and all those who knew you.

I can only hope I have been good enough on earth, that I will be blessed to see you after my passing.

The world lost civil rights leader Nelson Mandela today. The former South African President passed away at the age of 94, after a lifetime spent fighting oppression and promoting peace.

Music played a vital role in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement. So CBC Music commissioned Montreal singer Lorraine Klassen to write a song to celebrate Mandela’s life. Lorraine was born and raised in Soweto, South Africa, and she’s the daughter of the legendary South African jazz singer, Thandie Klassen. Thandie was one of Nelson Mandela’s favourite singers. She performed at his wedding and at his inauguration.

Here’s her daughter, Lorraine Klassen, with “Now is the Time.”

  22. Madiba – “The Mandela Tribute Song” by Dr Cyril Harrisberg

Published on Nov 19, 2013 by Cyril Harrisberg

I composed the Nelson Mandela Tribute Song as a tribute to the man who has done so much for humanity, to encourage the rest of our leaders and the people in our country to spread and hold on to the good values that Tata Madiba has inspired in so many of us. I dreamt the lyrics and the music for the song when I heard that Nelson Mandela was not well. Having been in ill health myself over the past 5 years, I wish to send a message of gratitude to Madiba for what he has achieved for our Rainbow Nation and also to honour him in his passing.

The lyrics call on all South Africans to enter into a value system of tolerance and goodwill towards the people of our diverse and wonderful rainbow nation, and to hand these values down to our children. This is an uplifting song not only for South Africa but for the international community.

On Saturday, 7 December 2013, Woolworths had planned a performance at our Parkview store in Pretoria to support our Operation Smile Christmas campaign. The Soweto Gospel Choir’s planned a rendition of James Brown’s I Feel Good. But, after Madiba’s passing the choir decided on a tribute instead. They chose Johnny Clegg’s Asimbonanga.
