American Music Award Winners Acknowledge Trayvon Martin

In their acceptance speech for Best Hip Hop/Rap Album, winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis gave an acceptance speech that resulted in applause.

Here is the acceptance speech.

If anyone is unfamiliar with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, here is one of their songs that is my favorite, titled “Same Love.”

    “Rock against racism” has been promoting tolerance since day one when kids all danced to Little Richard, chuck Berry,Fats Domino and a poor white kid from tupelo Mississippi who wanted to play like them. Music is a powerful voice! Thanks for posting this. Well spoken.

      When he released Hound Dog, my mouth fell open. I was a little girl then, but my parents had played Big Momma Thorton’s Hound Dog for years so I wondered (in my young, innocent mind), why Big Momma Thorton wasn’t on the Ed Sullivan Show singing her own song. 🙂

        @Xena: Happy Thanksgiving everyone! In between cooking, I was going through my e-mails and found this thread! I have been so busy, that I missed this but now that I am on vacation, I can breathe a little now! What a wonderful tribute. What is so disheartening is that an innocent kid was murdered by a psycho, deviant, wannabe cop, who can’t hold a job, monster! The depths of my hate for Fogen cannot be written in words!

        I was not yet born when Big Momma Thornton’s, “Hound Dog” was released but I was knocked out when my Momma played it around it around the house, and informed me that, BIG MOMMA THORNTON, released this song FIRST?? Also, African American, Otis Blackwell, whose work significantly influenced rock and roll. His compositions include Little Willie John’s “Fever”, Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire” and “Breathless”, Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel”, “All Shook Up” and “Return to Sender” (with Winfield Scott), and Jimmy Jones’ “Handy Man”.

        Elvis did admit back in the day, that he would go to black clubs in St. Louis, and watch the performers dance and sing and that is what he copied. Elvis also admired and loved Ike Turner and his band. Cissy Houstonm whomse, Sweet Inspirations would do back up singing for Elvis, spoke fondly about Elvis, and how nice he was to the group and how he would give them gifts, and treat them with the utmost respect.

        We also know why black artists were not on Sullivan Show in the early days, and we also know why they couldn’t release black artists albums with their image on the cover. The record companies would place images of whites on the albums. Such nonsense. SMH.

    Twitchy is a website that is very racist towards Pres Obama, black people, non whites in general. Twitchy was and is one of the biggest anti Trayvon Martin websites. The zidiots were out in full force there. Now that Zimmerman is accused of pointing a shotgun at a white female crickets.Twitchy also supports racial profiling as long as its done to BLACK and other non whites ,in order to “fight crime”. However will complain about profiling towards conservatives by the IRS. That twitchy posters also blame Pres Obama personally. Even though no evidence says Pres Obama is responsible.

      I kinda picked up on that but then considered that the reporter brought a balance with the tweets. Those who disapprove of the acceptance speech expose themselves as haters and frankly, had to go off topic to justify their disapproval.

      It it offends you that Twitchy is mentioned, I can remove the reference. Just let me know.

        No offense. I just believe the opinion I have on twitchy is correct and the site needs to be shown as much. The fact you’d consider removing the twitchy reference is thoughtful but unnecessary . As always, keep up the stellar work.
