Frank Taaffe and The Butterfly Effect of Precious

Frank Taaffe

Frank Taaffe

On the HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell’s program, Frank Taaffe inferred that witness Rachel Jeantel, was “precious.”  Rachel Jeantel is the daughter of Haitian and Dominican Republic parents.  Born in Miami, Florida, she first met Trayvon Martin when she was in kindergarten.  On her birthday of February 1, 2012, she and Trayvon renewed their friendship.  Jeantel was on the phone with Trayvon on the evening of February 26, 2012, when he told her he was being watched, and then followed, by “a creepy ass cracker.”  Jeantel testified in court that the phrase; “creepy ass cracker” means “pervert.”   Logically, a man watching a teen from his truck, then following in his truck, appears to be a pervert.

Based on Jeantel’s and Trayvon Martin’s phone records, they were indeed talking during the time that George Zimmerman was on the phone with police dispatch, and also when Trayvon and George Zimmerman came into physical contact.  That in fact, Jeantel’s phone call with Trayvon disconnected just seconds before witness, Jeanne Lauer, called 911 to report hearing screams.

Precious is a movie, released in 2009, about a New York City overweight, sexually and physically abused, illiterate teen, who enrolls in an alternative school in hope of taking her life in a new direction.  Based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire, the movie is the celebration of life against the odds.

The movie won the AFI Award for movie of the year.   It also won the Academy Awards’ Oscar for Best Performance by an actress in a supporting role (Mo’Nique) and Best Adapted Screenplay, (Geoffrey Fletcher).

The movie was nominated for Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Film Editing, and Best Motion Picture of the Year.  Overall, the movie won 79 awards worldwide, and 49 nominations.

Gabby

Gabourey Sidibe

Gabourey Sidibe, who played the movie’s leading character, “Precious,” was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.  Claireece “Precious” Jones, a taciturn, pregnant sixteen year-old, was Gabourey Sidibe’s first acting role on-screen.

For these accomplishments, Frank Taaffe, supporter of admitted killer and accused murderer George Zimmerman, apparently believes that Precious is a person who is supposed to be ashamed and denigrated. Frank Taaffe, in addition to other George Zimmerman supporters who have compared Jeantel to Precious, do not see that the movie’s main character represents metamorphosis through struggle – transformation within — from caterpillar to butterfly.

As a caterpillar, the verbal and physical abuse, and mocking lowered Precious’ self-esteem.  She day dreamed of being loved and admired. Through the struggle,  Precious raised her self-esteem, and acquired courage, hope, and determination.  She also learned not to argue with ignorant people.  She was no longer afraid to be herself or ashamed that she did not match the stereotype of what others believe is smart and beautiful.  Effectively, in their comparison of Jeantel to Precious, Taaffe and other Zimmerman supporters call good, evil.

Rachel JeantelThe movie’s Precious had much more to live for than just herself – two children, one which is a special needs child. In like manner, when Jeantel took the witness stand, she didn’t think of herself.  Throughout this ordeal, she made it plain that she was concerned for Sybrina Fulton’s pain.  On the witness stand, Jeantel wasn’t interested in competing to win a public speaking contest.  She took the stand to testify of her last conversation with Trayvon.   She laid the pain of her loss aside.   Through cross-examination by defense attorney Don West, Jeantel flew above his condescending inferences, his interrogation as though he was a detective trying to get her to confess to committing a crime, and his hours of repeating the same questions.

Jeantel’s answers revealed just how far Don West is from reality.  For instance, he drilled her on why she did not call the police.  Jeantel’s answer was consistent; i.e., she did not know that the man who killed her friend had not been arrested.  Logically, admitted killers are arrested.

Don West also demonstrated his ignorance of jurisdictions.  How was Jeantel suppose to call 911 in Sanford, Florida, when she resides in Miami?

Frank Taaffe’s taking of good and using it for evil is — well — evil in itself.  He fails to recognize that the movie character Precious does not represent shame.  Rather, Precious is a character who in spite of not meeting Taaffe’s standards, overcomes against the odds.

Rachel Jeantel is hereby awarded the butterfly award.  Black butterfly with hearts

  1. YESSS!!! Precious. That is it. And that she is. And you know, when all that disgusting filthy last refuse at the outhouse say the horrible things they say about her, I am torn between a pain inside like I’ve never known and an anger that is uncontainable. Trayvon – their so-called “thug” has more civility in his little finger tip knuckle than ANY of them do. He didn’t judge her the way they do. How can they say the things they do about another human being but somehow say there is something wrong with Trayvon? Obviously he is a loving, caring person who doesn’t base friendship superficially. There are a lot of sick people out there. Mr. West’s own daughters. Didn’t he teach them better? Dang, the one who posted that is a grown woman playing silly teenaged games like a child. She claims she’s sorry. I’m sure she is…sorry she got caught. If she were 17 or even 19, I’d say look – and really lay it out for her, but by 23, how come she doesn’t already know that? Let that be a lesson to all those holier than thous who say their child would never and that they always know where their kids are. If you REALLY believe that, then you don’t have kids or you have your head buried up your – I mean in the sand.

    • @Rachael. You make an excellent point about Trayvon not being superficial. Also, another excellent point about West’s daughter. I suppose she can forget about a career working with and/or representing the interests of people. Did she feel that her dad “killed it” when he entered a plea bargain in federal court for a terrorist on the agreement that the colluding wife not be charged? West’s chickens have come home to roost.

  4. Excellent as always. But what has this country come to when an unemployed / underemployed liar like Taaffe rates so much face time. I cringe every time I see he is on another show. He’s a neighbors worst nightmare. He is one of those who have the attitude “This is not JUST my opinion and you’ll listen to me or else” guys….Hmmmm….sound familiar?

Least we forget that he said he was mentoring Black teens on “THC Withdrawal” only a month ago. He’s just another pile of garbage, just like cac, who is liable to blurt out anything at anytime.

His “Precious” comment is just another example of racist drivel and we can add Molly West to that list.

    • @racerrodig. Excellent comment. Taaffe’s foreclosure case is still pending, and the purported mentoring was no doubt court ordered community service hours in response to his last DUI which was reduced to reckless driving.

Well of course, Taaffe’s bigoted attitude would prevent people of color from purchasing homes in the Retreat of Twin Lakes, which is said to be what Taaffe wanted all along.

This “crime ridden area” had one (1) count ’em, one verified break in and he was in jail on 2/26. The bike cac said of his that was “stolen” is another lie. It belonged to a young black kid near where Brandi Green’s. Fogen made the mistake of calling the cops and the boys dad produced a receipt from Walmart that had the bike’s serial number on it. No trailers of any kind….we owned a 27 foot boat and I had a race car in an enclosed trailer. Beautiful boat, not exactly an eyesore. You couldn’t hang your wash out side, a noise ordnance far more restrictive than the Township ordnance. There was even a restriction on the size of the kids swing set !!

You had to have your lawn a certain height or there was a fine…..so I can see that there would be more bs than one could imagine…..mix in one part Racist Taaffe, one part Fogen Renter, one snob of Lauer, add a pinch of J Good, sautee’ over a racist fire, garnish with bigotry and what do you get……. a neighborhood nightmare and the inevitable consequence that a Fogen will impose.

I am wondering if the State will put Omar (Witness-22 the ex employee at CarMax). Since they have established GZ MMA training, it would be great to follow that up with Omar and his testimony of his demeaning ways and taking part of his commissions when he worked with him.

I believe the state is building the story piece by piece. I like exhibit 139. The way they keep adding the names of the witnesses on that map. It gives the jury a road map if you will of who was where and what they saw and to determine if the testimony of that witness is reliable. I can say this much Jayne and Selma have been the best so far. I loved the fact that Selma went with an interpreter, that was a smart call on her part and attorney. The point she made about why didn’t the phone call pick up Jon saying, ” Cut it out, or I’m calling 911″. was spectacular for me. It goes to show that she had to brains to say to O’mara there was not only one recording. There where several 911 recordings. I think it made the jury think Hmmm she’s right.

Another point I wish that the state would of done was when Bahadoor was on the stand and the issue of left to right. That whole issue could of been resolved if BDLR would of asked when you saw the figures and when you where in the kitchen which way did YOU move to get a better view? She would of responded Left to right, mirroring where the figures where going.

    • O’Mara went there on Friday by asking Jenna about GZ’s personality. The defense objected to the prosecution introducing evidence that refutes Jenna’s testimony about GZ, and the State said it had no problem presenting case law. Judge Nelson gave the State right to prepare a brief and the defense time to prepare a response. Based on this, the State just might call GZ’s former co-worker to testify of his experience. It was a formal complaint submitted to Car-Max — excellent credibility!

I agree about the State building piece by piece. That is what Corey said in the press conference when announcing the charge and arrest of GZ — “bit of evidence by bit of evidence.”

As far as the witnesses, I admit that I cannot be impartial, so have a friend (who has not followed the case), watch the trial and give me her opinion of witness testimony in addition to attorney behavior.

Ah thanks for that, that makes sense now. As far as the witnesses I think J. Good was snarky, dry sense of humor, and extremelllllllllyyyyyy careful of his answers. The witnesses lawyers prepped them well. That said I believe he is not telling everything because of the way the questions are phrased. Jenna was the same way. She was so bitchy. I was yelling at her on the computer screen. She came off as a real insensitive person, arrogant. And to think she didn’t no way endure the length of time in the box like Deedee. I also believe that if there audio interviews were played it would further push them to answer with more detail. For example, J Manolo, was more animated in his voice when describing GZ demeanor when he was talking about Just tell my wife I shot someone. The tone in court was not the same in his interview.

I also would like to comment about Manolo. Even though people may think that he was wrong for having a conversation with him about caliber sizes, I think this man is sorta of an unspoken quiet hero, for the following reasons.

        1) He had to the forethought to keep GZ right where he was, if he used conversation about guns to keep him there so be it.

        2) He had the forethought to take pictures, not just of GZ but of Trayvon also.

        3) He maintained an eye on his behavior and demeanor and reported it.

        4) He got information out of him, what gun he used what caliber.

        5) He also got his wife’s number.

So he may of not tackled him to the ground and held down till the police got there, but he did got him to stay put. Imagine if u will if he didn’t get there first, GZ could of up and ran. He could of said his gun was stolen and had no idea how his gun was used in a murder. There where several break-ins. He literally could have gotten away of with murder if he ran, no one could really identify him until after they should his picture. It was dark it was raining and no one knew Trayvon.

            Like

          • It just goes to show how ignorant they were at RATL, their decline in value of their houses was due to Bush’s deregulation that allowed the banks and F.I.R.E. to run amuck and package mortgages in to CDO (collateralized debt obligations). CDO’s are not investment grade securities for a number of reasons I won’t go into, but when Florida helped put Bush in office, they were signing their own financial death warrants. Apparently none of them kept up with the news.

            Like

          • @Lonnie Starr. You’re correct about Bush’s deregulation. But, do you really think that Taaffe understands that? LOL! His house is in foreclosure because he failed to pay his mortgage and apparently, he was unable to sell and see a profit. Florida courts have been very active lately making sure that mortgagors have made all options available before foreclosing, including short-sells. But then, Taaffe can’t short-sell because there is no family or friend he can bunk with until getting back on his feet. Even his best buddy George Zimmerman is homeless.

            Like

          • Taaffe understands nothing but nothing. When the CDO’s went south they took the entire financial markets with them, thus not only did houses decline in value, but it became more difficult for businesses to do business, thus there was a lack of jobs.

Taaffe could have done well if he’d sold his house in 2006 or earlier, housing was still appreciating 10% a year because of the ease of getting mortgages. Once the market locked up you could sell nothing because banks and financial institutions weren’t making loans anymore. So you couldn’t find buyers. But Taaffe blamed that on blacks, what a silly man.
The whites that he’d like to run with, who want no part of him, are the very people who did him in and he doesn’t yet realize it. If anything, having a high percentage of blacks would have made his neighborhood home prices more stable, not less.

In fact, antics like his friend foggen was pulling, did more to ruin the value of his home by non-payment of rent, forcing the owner into foreclosure took money out of everyone’s pocket in RATL. Thus he was paling around with the very guy twisting the dagger in his back. Hahaha!!!

Meanwhile the blacks in the neighborhood weren’t such high flyers, they weren’t taking out equity loans on their homes and using the house as an atm. Many of them had no trouble paying their mortgages and that accounts for what little value remains. Thus, he really needed more blacks in the neighborhood. If the neighborhood had been 90% black he probably would not have been underwater even with the market decline. Ah but there’s nothing you can do about stupid.

            Like

          • @Lonnie Starr. What you shared makes very good sense. You’re on point too — Zimmerman was Taaffe’s worst enemy as it concerns that community.

I understand that some of the townhouses were rented via Section 8. That’s a guarantee that the owner is paid. Also, Section 8 voucher recipients must have income. They are generally working-class people who do not earn enough to pay rent without having the subsidy.

So there was George and ShelLIE, 2 adults in a 3 bedroom townhouse where they could not afford to pay the rent, with so few possessions that they could move overnight. They probably qualified for Section 8, but would only be approved for a one-bedroom apartment. They had to make an impression, right? And now they are homeless.

Without forensic and physical evidence findings, Serino believed that Zimmerman committed manslaughter. With the results of forensics and physical evidence reports, Corey charged Zimmerman with 2nd degree murder.

          • @racerrodig. Taaffe just exposed himself as an idiot when saying Trayvon was a 6 foot “man.” Maybe Taaffe believes that being 17 yrs old for 3 weeks makes a teen a “man,” and that is why his one of his sons committed suicide, and his other son used his car as a weapon and died in a crash.

But, with “short term-vision,” how was Taaffe to know that his belief that a 17 year old is a “man” would lead to his sons hating their lives?

His comment that Fogen was having many concussions, then mini concussions sure is a freaking stretch since even Fogen said he had no concussions. There is no evidence that he had anything other than 2 abrasions and not so much as a headache.

            What a dip shit.

I had to laugh when Bernie asked OsterPhoole to read parts of his book when he’d make shit up. Now Osterpig says Fogen was using his hand(s) to clear the blood from out of his mouth…….really ?? with what ?? cotton swabs ??

In AZ that wouldn’t have been allowed at all, but FL has problems all through their justice system. This case and the Casey Anthony case proves that the charges are not written clearly enough for a jury to understand them. Maybe they just need a law that says: Don’t Kill Kids.

  15. Nobody seems to have noticed that while Bernie “slept” through the PA’s testimony, gz’s head pounding on concrete claims went south, vanished, never to be seen again! That’s what Bernie was doing by keeping silent, he was letting the defense hang themselves and destroy their own remaining credibility.

The PA was obviously biased in gz’s favor and when Bernie didn’t object, Omar went on a tear! Instead of getting what little evidence he could from her, he went raging on with his lumps and bumps, until he had finally destroyed gz’s defense.

She told the jury that a head pounded on concrete would have subcutaneous hemorrhaging, not the sharp force injuries seen. She did that by trying to help Omar define all those bumps as possibly being evidence of the attack gz claimed.

Bernie finished it off by demonstrating that there were no such injuries as she described, because she would have had to see and document them, when he first came to her office for an exam. Obviously she saw those bumps then, but did not note them as anything abnormal, and they certainly did not have bruising surrounding them. In fact there was no bruising anywhere on gz’s head.

Now gz needs yet another story if he’s to put a self defense claim before the jury! Who is going to be able to tell this other story? No one but gz himself, if he doesn’t take the stand he’s toast!
If he does take the stand he’s toast!

    • @Lonnie Starr. Today, the jury heard GZ lie on the re-enactment tape about his PA saying he needed stitches. Serino, neither Singleton, knew GZ’s medical report to be able to challenge him. The prosecution will remind the jury about that during closing arguments.

I suspect that Serino will be on the witness stand all day tomorrow. O’Mara will finish his interrogation, then BDLR will re-direct, then O’Mara will come back with throwing everything against the wall hoping something will stick, and BDLR will re-direct again. Here is where the defense is not helping GZ because regardless of Serino’s answers to their leading questions, Serino still believed that GZ committed manslaughter as set forth in the capias he prepared and submitted to Wolfinger.

They want to do the right thing but, it’s like they’re chained to a truck and being dragged along. They’d probably turn in a minute if they thought the public would show some concern, but we leave them twisting in the wind. So, I just thought it might be nice if we the public, showed that we do support good cops who do the right thing, regardless of the “costs”. Since that would encourage others to help keep the force clean. Just a thought.

  16. I don’t think Frank Taaffe had ever read the book or watched the movie. His generation uses the word “precious” in a very different way. I remember being at church where there was a much beloved woman who had Down’s Syndrome. She was precious. At our grade school, there was a classroom where mentally handicapped people of all ages could go every day and learn living skills, arts, crafts & social skills. They were very precious. They taught everyone who dealt with them that there are people who need extra attention and love and so they teach us to value them for teaching us patience, kindness & undiluted love. They are precious. The more modern term, “rides the short bus,” in contrast, is a derogatory term and shows that the user of that term is a lower form of life. But “precious” in and of itself is a word that conveys not just the difficulties that precious people face, but their special value in teaching the rest of us what love is. It’s just how it was used when I was a spring chicken. The movie came much later, and I assumed that’s why the character was named that. She taught people.

If I were to call someone “precious” it would be in the tone and spirit like you describe. Frank Taaffe criticized Rachel Jeantel. When he said she was “precious” it was within the condescending context in which he was speaking.
